Steven,
Thanks for the quick response. I kept the cd I have of 1.0.3-6
which works just fine for me. I'm doing "offline" cloning using a USB
hdd.
I'll keep an eye out for the next release.
Once again, thanks for the great "ghost" alternative.

Hi Gary, Thanks for reporting this bug, yes, I confirmed that. My bad... Due to ntfs-3g is not included in stable Debian 4.0, and I forgot to put another branch when creating Clonezilla live. I am working on another minor bug, and will release another testing version with this ntfs-3g bug free asap. For the time being, you can try: 1. boot the Clonezilla live 1.0.3-15 2. enter shell 3. edit /etc/apt/sources.list, append live-testing like this: deb http://free.nchc.org.tw/drbl-core drbl stable live-stable live-testing 4. apt-get update 5. apt-get install ntfs-3g Then I think you will have a working ntfs-3g to use. Thanks again. Regards, Steven. Gary Smithe wrote: > First, I want to say that Clonezilla rocks! First, I want to say that Clonezilla rocks! The testing version is a great product. With that being said, it seems like ntfs-3g was accidentally not included on 1.0.3-15. When I use 10.0.3-6, I can mount with no problems. When I tried 1.0.3-15, the command can't be found. When I tried to find it from the root of the live filesystem, it couldn't be found either. Maybe it's just me. Can anyone confirm? Thanks, GS |

Actually you can press Ctrl-C to terminate the dhcp client when it's requesting an IP address. Steven. When booting a machine with serveral ethernet cards but only one
connected for the cloning process, it would be a lot faster if ones with
no link were skipped or the process doing the dhcp request could be put
in the background instead of waiting for it to time out.

That's pretty cool! Check the file /opt/drbin/sbin/drbl-functions Some functions you might have to modify: 1. get_lang_index 2. ask_lang_set 3. load_lang_set 4. ask_and_load_lang_set 5. language_help_prompt_by_idx_no 6. language_help_prompt_by_idx_name This is just a draft, never test here. Maybe it's a good idea to include your language file in the future drbl and clonezilla. Regards, Steven. Thanks - RAID1 is a special case that could be handled almost like the
filesystem on it since a complete copy is on each disk. For other raid
levels you'd have to access it though the md device to read and
create a matching device to accept the restore.

Should clonezilla be able to clone a disk where the partitions contain
one member of a Linux RAID1 md device? When I tried, it recognized the
underlying copy of the ext3 filesystem (which is also sort-of right) but
did not duplicate the raid superblock so the copy wasn't recognized at
boot up. I was hoping to be able to clone one disk, then be able to
rebuild the mirror setup after the copied machine was running.

-----BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE----- Hash: SHA1 The target disk can NOT be smaller than source disk, even if it's just 1% different. Maybe you can try to use gparted (https://sourceforge.net/forum/forum.php?forum_id=679664) to resize the source disk, then manually create the partition in the target disk, and when you restore it, remember to choose "-k" to skip the partition table creation. Steven, Thanks for your suggestion, but I still couldn't make it work. I restored the image using both dd and sfdisk. After that, I rebooted = the computer and, on the first try, the operating system (Windows) tried to boot, but then and without notice, the computer reset. On the second and subsequent tries, it appeared a screen saying that Windows couldn't load = on a previous attempt and it prompted me to select a mode to boot (safe, = net, normal, etc.); if I selected Safe Mode, it started booting up but then = reset again. This is the configuration of the computers (disk geometries as reported = by FDISK): SOURCE COMPUTER Disk: 80000/16/63 (CHS) LBA Partitions: - hda1: primary, bootable, NTFS, WinXP, cyls. 1-40635 - hda2: primary, NTFS, empty, cyls. 40636-60636 DESTINATION COMPUTER Disk: 77545/16/63 (CHS) LBA Notice that even though the size of the destination disk is slightly = smaller than the source one, the partitions should fit in the destination disk. I would appreciate if somebody could give a hint on what to try next. Hi, We have some test machines which we use to perform tests on clean systems. The idea is to create images of just-installed Windows and Linux systems, create an image, work with them, and later, when required, restore the just-installed image. However, the machines have disks with different geometry. I would like to know if it is possible to restore a partition/disk image on another disk. For example, suppose that a disk has the following configuration: CONFIGURATION 1 Disk size: 80 GB Boot loader: GRUB Partition 1 (primary, 15 GB, bootable): Windows XP Partition 2 (extended, 65 GB) Partition 3 (logical, 15 GB): Linux Partition 4 (logical, 5 GB): Windows Vista Partition 5 (logical, 15 GB): Empty/unused (Unallocated space 30 GB) Suppose also that I create images of each partition. Would it be possible to restore the image of partition 1 (WinXP) on a disk with a different geometry (but with the same partition layout)? What about restoring the whole disk image? Should I need to tweak the stored MBR? Kind regards, Omar Estrada |

Sorry for the late response, I forgot to subscribe this list. Are you familiar with program "screen" ? If so, please use screen to scroll back to check the error message. BTW, a new testing version 1.0.2-1 is released, and you can download it in: http://clonezilla.sourceforge.net/download/sourceforge/ Maybe you can also give it a try. Please let us know the results. Hello all, I just discover CloneZilla, so sorry if it already has been asked before... I have backed up an entire SCSI hard disk of a production server running Linux RHEL3 (Dell Power edge 1850 Server) using sshfs destination mount point and Live CD of CloneZilla. Now, my goal would be to restore the created image to a virtual machine using Vmware server but it doesn't works and stops just after i confirm by "Yes" that i have understood that all my data will be lost on the destination hard disk. Nb : my virtual machine has been created using : SCSI hard disk, using 8.0G space at the creation. Problem is that i can't read error messages because they scroll too fast and i only see the menu where i can choose to reboot, poweroff or go to prompt. Any idea of what i could test ? Thanks Florent |

I am using Clonezilla to clone Linux and Windows drives. On my test system, I am getting the message: "Error loading operating system" upon booting after the image is restored. I read the FAQ, checked google, and found the item below. The only problem is, the BIOS on my test machine can not be adjusted to use LBA mode (it's an old Dell laptop and, unfortunately, the only test PC model I have available right now). So the question is, is there anything I can do to make this drive bootable or create the image in such a way that it will be? I'll continue to look around and post what I find. This is an outstanding product! I hope I can use it. Mike >From the Clonezilla FAQ: # When I use clonezilla to clone M$ windows, there is no any problem when saving an image from template machine. However, after the image is restored to another machine, it fails to boot, the error message is "Missing Operating System". What's going on ? ^TOP^ <http://drbl.sourceforge.net/faq/index.php#top> Usually this is because GNU/Linux and M$ windows interpret the CHS (cylinder, head, sector) value of harddrive differently. Maybe you can change the IDE harddrive setting in BIOS, try to use LBA instead of auto mode. |
