I think he wants to use a scsi system as the source, ide as the target, which might work if the partition labels are cloned, but otherwise would need a fixup in the grub configuration and /etc/fstab. Going the other way ide->scsi would need a rebuild if the initrd to have the correct scsi driver available at boot time. -- Les Mikesell les...@gm... |

Hi everyone, I've just discovered Clonezilla, and it looks pretty. Thanks for the excellent piece of software :) I am looking for a way to clone a Linux installation, onto various machines. My best bets are probably mondo and clonezilla. I'm not too happy with mondo, so I will be trying clonezilla very soon. I could not find any online docs (or man pages!) for clonezilla for some reason! I have a few questions, I hope someone can help me answer 1) Does clonezilla support cloning Linux soft RAID (My setup RAID1 over sda2 & sdb2 with sda1 & sdb1 as swap). Will this clone MBR + partition table too ? 2) Is there anyway to create a bootable restoration DVD? i.e. the "user" pops in the DVD, it boots, wipes disks and restores with minimal interaction ? 3) If I restore to disks of different sizes, does clonezilla resize partitions ? 4) If I restore to IDE disks (hdX) will this work?! Thanks guys |

I think its a Graphics card driver problem ... maybe if it is an external graphics card you can try another one .. this kind of problem is usualy found when installing linux... so you can either learn to do it command line way or change your hardware .. or maybe wait for net release of clonezila. Hello At times clonezilla live will stop working right before cloning starts. The screen text will be shifted to the right and no input iis excepted. The os it self is still fully functional. I switch to another console and can use the system as usual. Any ideas as to whats happening or how to trouble shoot this. Thanks! Ryan Mc. |

Hi Ryan, Yes, part of the function you need exists in the testing clonezilla live, check http://sourceforge.net/forum/forum.php?forum_id=691656 ... 3. An iso with restoring image builtin can be created in Clonezilla live. For example, (a) Boot Clonezilla live, (b) Choose to mount the clonezilla home image, which is writable (c) Do not save or restore, just exit to shell, (d) Change to working directory, Ex. cd /home/partimag/ (e) For the time being, use the testing debian-live-for-ocs template, you can download it by "wget http://opensource.nchc.org.tw/clonezilla-live/template-iso/testing/debian-live-for-ocs.iso"; in the working directory. (f) Use ocs-iso to create that by something like (Assume clonezilla image sarge-r5 is in clonezilla home image): /opt/drbl/sbin/ocs-iso sarge-r5 For unattended mode (Only confirmation in the beginning): /opt/drbl/sbin/ocs-iso -g en -t -k NONE -e "-b -c restoredisk sarge-r5 hda" sarge-r5 Therefore by modifying some script in clonezila live, I think you can make it based on the above idea. Good luck. Regards, Steven. Ryan McDowell wrote: > Excellent work! I've been working on something that does basically what > clonezilla does. You have done a far better job than I could have. Excellent work! I've been working on something that does basically what clonezilla does. You have done a far better job than I could have. Thank You!! I'm using clonezilla to image multiple machines and I was wondering if there is a way to "preseed" answers to questions asked during the process. For example I will only use english in my case and I am using ssh as my network transfer protocol. I use the help of students to get as many systems setup as possible and I would like to limit the amount of time needed to preconfigure connections and ssh passwords. At present I cannot add drbl proper to our file server. I know that would solve most of my issues. I would like to add preset settings to the CD. Disassembling, adding, and re mkisofs isn't a problem for me. Can I do this? Can I create a conf file of some kind to allow me to ease the use of this software for my students? Thanks in advanced for any advice you can give me. |

Steven, Thanks for the quick response. I kept the cd I have of 1.0.3-6 which works just fine for me. I'm doing "offline" cloning using a USB hdd. I'll keep an eye out for the next release. Once again, thanks for the great "ghost" alternative. GS On 5/24/07, Steven Shiau <st...@nc...> wrote: > Hi Gary, > Thanks for reporting this bug, yes, I confirmed that. > My bad... Hi Gary, Thanks for reporting this bug, yes, I confirmed that. My bad... Due to ntfs-3g is not included in stable Debian 4.0, and I forgot to put another branch when creating Clonezilla live. I am working on another minor bug, and will release another testing version with this ntfs-3g bug free asap. For the time being, you can try: 1. boot the Clonezilla live 1.0.3-15 2. enter shell 3. edit /etc/apt/sources.list, append live-testing like this: deb http://free.nchc.org.tw/drbl-core drbl stable live-stable live-testing 4. apt-get update 5. apt-get install ntfs-3g Then I think you will have a working ntfs-3g to use. Thanks again. Regards, Steven. Gary Smithe wrote: > First, I want to say that Clonezilla rocks! First, I want to say that Clonezilla rocks! The testing version is a great product. With that being said, it seems like ntfs-3g was accidentally not included on 1.0.3-15. When I use 10.0.3-6, I can mount with no problems. When I tried 1.0.3-15, the command can't be found. When I tried to find it from the root of the live filesystem, it couldn't be found either. Maybe it's just me. Can anyone confirm? Thanks, GS |

Actually you can press Ctrl-C to terminate the dhcp client when it's requesting an IP address. Steven. When booting a machine with serveral ethernet cards but only one connected for the cloning process, it would be a lot faster if ones with no link were skipped or the process doing the dhcp request could be put in the background instead of waiting for it to time out. -- Les Mikesell les...@gm... |

That's pretty cool! Check the file /opt/drbin/sbin/drbl-functions Some functions you might have to modify: 1. get_lang_index 2. ask_lang_set 3. load_lang_set 4. ask_and_load_lang_set 5. language_help_prompt_by_idx_no 6. language_help_prompt_by_idx_name This is just a draft, never test here. Maybe it's a good idea to include your language file in the future drbl and clonezilla. Regards, Steven. Thanks - RAID1 is a special case that could be handled almost like the filesystem on it since a complete copy is on each disk. For other raid levels you'd have to access it though the md device to read and create a matching device to accept the restore. -- Les Mikesell les...@gm... Should clonezilla be able to clone a disk where the partitions contain one member of a Linux RAID1 md device? When I tried, it recognized the underlying copy of the ext3 filesystem (which is also sort-of right) but did not duplicate the raid superblock so the copy wasn't recognized at boot up. I was hoping to be able to clone one disk, then be able to rebuild the mirror setup after the copied machine was running. -- Les Mikesell les...@gm... |

Steven, Thanks for your suggestion, but I still couldn't make it work. I restored the image using both dd and sfdisk. After that, I rebooted = the computer and, on the first try, the operating system (Windows) tried to boot, but then and without notice, the computer reset. On the second and subsequent tries, it appeared a screen saying that Windows couldn't load = on a previous attempt and it prompted me to select a mode to boot (safe, = net, normal, etc.); if I selected Safe Mode, it started booting up but then = reset again. This is the configuration of the computers (disk geometries as reported = by FDISK): SOURCE COMPUTER Disk: 80000/16/63 (CHS) LBA Partitions: - hda1: primary, bootable, NTFS, WinXP, cyls. 1-40635 - hda2: primary, NTFS, empty, cyls. 40636-60636 DESTINATION COMPUTER Disk: 77545/16/63 (CHS) LBA Notice that even though the size of the destination disk is slightly = smaller than the source one, the partitions should fit in the destination disk.
