Hello, I've not been able to get Clonezilla Live to boot properly on my HP 6735b Laptop. I downloaded 1.2.2-26 as a .iso, used the usb-creator tool that comes with Ubuntu to put it on an SD card, but when I try to boot of it I get weird images. The download is good, I compared md5sums and also ran it in a VM successfully. When I boot the laptop off the SD card, I get a screen with some red boxes that I can manipulate to some degree with various keypresses, but that is it. Any ideas? Thanks, Hilton Send me all the forwards/chain mails you want. No guaranties I will freak out, cry, continue, or otherwise do anything with (or even read) them though. Yes. The problem is now stable or testing Clonezilla live uses "free" software. That firmware is classified as "non-free" in Debian. Therefore it does not included. You can try Ubuntu-based Clonezilla live (20090812-jaunty), it comes with some of non-free firmware. Steven. I guess the firmware is included in Clonezilla live 20090812-jaunty. Please give it a try. Steven. Steve Poe wrote: > Do I need the firmware? I don't think so. The Ubuntu Server is just a boot-up before the disk configuration. I'll need to look at this, but first impress is not. I would not expect that from the Server edition, but I could be wrong. Steve -----Original Message----- From: Kevin W. Hi Steven, I thought about that, but the Ubuntu Server is using an earlier driver (1.8) while 1.22-26 is using 2.01 I believe. The Clonezilla kernel seems to want to load firmware while the Ubuntu server does not. I have screenshots of dmesg if you want to see them. side note: The disks are being recognized as /dev/sdb, so we're all good there. The HP DL360GS server uses the Broadcom NetExtreme II drive(bnx2 module). Clonezilla 1.22-26 does not allow the module to load saying it is having a problem with the firmware ( cannot load firmware file) with an error like probe of <PCI device address> failed with error -2. However, If I boot an Ubuntu Server 9.0.4, the bnx2 module loads without issue. It does not try to load the firmware. Any thoughts? Hi, How can I view & then extract individual files & folders from the image created with Clonezilla ? (if it is possible to do so). A screenshot of the files in the image directory can be seen here: http://www.imagebam.com/image/2bf9f546148330 Thanks, Jay Mistry -- Linux User 483705 | openSUSE 11.1, Ubuntu 9.04 (i686) w/ Win XP |

Haven't tried it, but I'd expect a USB->ethernet adapter to be
recognized. Or a USB->disk adapter for image access so you can skip the
network.

The good news is Clonezilla 1.22-26 recognizes the cciss module and the disks are recognize as /dev/sdb. However, the Broadcom BCM5708 Ethernet adapter is not recognized. Steven, HP got back to me regarding their HW RAID under Linux. I asked if their module can assign the device to /dev/sda: The only way to accomplish that would be to create a symlink from /dev/cciss/c0d0 to /dev/sda. You may be able to create the symlink during install prior to the disk partitioning. From: Steve Poe [mailto:Ste...@de...] Sent: Wednesday, August 19, 2009 5:33 PM To: 'clo...@li...' Hi all, Just a quick request for clarification on the FAQ/Q&A page: under item 74: When I use clonezilla to clone MS windows, there is no any problem when saving an image from template machine. However, after the image is restored to another machine, it fails to boot, the error message is "Missing Operating System" or just a blinking underscore. What's going on ? There is a possible solution of: [ ] -t1 Client restores the prebuilt MBR from syslinux (For Windows only) when you restore the image. What does the (For Windows only) bit refer to? I thought that Clonezilla could only be run from Debian/Ubuntu. Does this imply a Windows based version of the s/w? If not, then what does this refer to, or is it so blatently obvious that I have missed the point? ;) Cheers, S. |

If you create an image by choosing disk -> image, Clonezilla should not delete any files on the mounted dir, i.e. any files on /home/partimag will not be deleted. For what you mentioned, I think maybe it's because you abort the process, and unplug the USB flash drive without unmounting it or shutting down the system normally. Could you please make sure you did that or? Sorry to hear that. We will try to find a better way to avoid this. Maybe give some warning messages. Regards, Steven. Simon Loewen wrote: > Here we go. Hi Steve, Since Ubuntu 9.0.4 can find the device, I believe Clonezilla live 20090727-jaunty can find that, too. However, the problem is now clonezilla does not support device names like /dev/mapper/... We might have to write another program to map the /dev/mapper/ device name to /dev/[hs]d[a-z]* in the future. However, without any card here I can test, it's difficult... Steven. Steve Poe wrote: > Steven, > > After trying Ubuntu 9.0.4 Server, it found the RAID without issue. I am teaching my team how to use Clonezilla. The most-confusing process they've experienced is taking a out-of-the-box system and sizing the drive smaller so there are two equal partitions. They would like to see a GUI menu to split a drive or partition into two equal parts. This would support the need their request to make the tool easier to use. Thanks.
