Simon, Sorry to hear that. However, by default Clonezilla will _NOT_ delete any files on the target directory when you save an image on that. It will just mount the target media as /home/partimag then save the image on that. Did you remember the steps you have done? Did you interrupt when Clonezilla saves an image? If you can provide more info, I think we might have some way to show some warning messages to avoid that. Steven. I am using CloneZilla to image a hard drive. This hard drive is dual-boot for Fedora 5 and Fedora 11, sharing a boot partition.
The boot partition has the Fedora 5 version of grub.
The partition layout is:
/dev/sda1 /boot
/dev/sda2 / for FC5
/dev/sda3 swap
/dev/sda4 extended
/dev/sda5 / for F11
/dev/sda6 /home
On the system/drive *from* which the image is made, all works as expected. I can boot into either Fedora 5 or Fedora 11, and either of those OS's can access the /home partition with no problem.
I then restored the disk image back onto the same system with the same hard drive. All was OK.
I then restored the disk image back onto the same system with a different hard drive, but the same model (presumably identical hardware). The problem does occur.
If I restore on a different system, but to the original hard drive, things work.
After restoring the different harddrive, I boot into Fedora 5 and all is well. Everything is properly accessible. As expected, I get the following output from running blkid:
/dev/sda3: TYPE="swap" LABEL="swap" UUID="4167d8f6-e6a6-422f-b7f3-b63402b71b1e"
/dev/sda2: LABEL="/" UUID="ea61bbcb-b692-416f-96fe-3915614a2d4c" SEC_TYPE="ext2" TYPE="ext3"
/dev/sda1: LABEL="boot" UUID="8b50e034-d9c0-4295-bade-bde385368c8d" SEC_TYPE="ext2" TYPE="ext3"

/dev/sda6: UUID="7a78f920-a0ac-4706-9b80-2e3a3b69627e" SEC_TYPE="ext2" TYPE="ext3" LABEL="home"

However, when I boot into Fedora 11, the boot fails with the diagnostic:
fsck.ext3: Unable to resolve 'LABEL=boot'
dumping me into the shell, from which I see:
"fdisk -l" output:

/dev/sda6 5684 19457 110632927+ 83 Linux
blkid output:

brw-rw----. 1 root disk 8, 6 2009-09-17 09:42 sda6
It's worthy of note that partitions 4, 5, and 6 were created during the installation of Fedora 11.
I will also note that if I remove the F11 /etc/fstab entry for the boot partition, that F11 boots OK, but still only recognizes sda5 and
sda6 as partitions.
So, I am puzzled:
1. My configuration works from the system before imaging.
Both Fedora 5 and Fedora 11 recognize all partitions.
2. My configuration works from the system after imaging,
for Fedora 5, but not Fedora 11.
Fedora 11 is recognizing only two of the partitions.
3. My configuration works if I restore the exact same hard drive
(not just the same hard drive model), both both F5 and F11.
Conclusion: ???
This is a hard one, but is the imaging process perhaps not properly initializing some portion of the destination hard drive (e.g., maybe by zeroing it) in a way that Fedora 5 does not care about, but Fedora 11 does.
Any help appreciated!

Hi, Recently some people have file bugs report about XFS clone/image problem. We have confirmed that and sorry for that. This problem is only for XFS, if you are imaging or cloning a non-XFS partition, you can ignore this. This issue is due to an XFS clone problem of partclone (version 0.1.1-16). To avoid this, for Clonezilla live, please use Clonezilla live 1.2.2-28 or 20090915-karmic to save your XFS partition. For Clonezilla SE, please use unstable branch. By doing this, Clonezilla will default to use partimage instead of partclone to save an XFS partition. Alternative, if you still want to use Clonezilla live 1.2.2.-26 or stable Clonezilla SE, you can enter expert mode, and choose "-q" to use partimage instead of the default option "-q2" to use partclone to save your XFS partition. For more info, please check: https://sourceforge.net/tracker/?func=detail&atid=671650&aid=2857293&group_id=115473 We are working on this issue, and this problem should be solved soon. Hi, Some info has been posted on https://sourceforge.net/forum/message.php?msg_id=7614219. Let's focus on that forum only. Steven. Using Clonezilla (latest version) to backup the root (/ ) partition of Ubuntu 9.04, I get the files [as in Pict [1] in the image directory. As Clonezilla backs-up the following, in addition to the main data: - the MBR, - 'hidden data after MBR' (?) - Partition Table (= ? = MFT - Master File Table) Could somebody point out from the image files [1] as to what the above are backed-up as (name-wise) and also whether it is possible to back-up selectively each of the MBR / MFT (Master File Table/ Partition Table). Also, I am not clear as to what <hidden data after MBR> is ? Hi everybody, A testing release of Clonezilla live (1.2.3-1) has been released. Now it's based on Debian Squeeze (was Lenny). Some highlights: * Based on Debian squeeze repository (2009/Aug/31). However, grub instead of grub2 (grub-pc) is used. * Kernel 2.6.30-6 is used. * The option "-g auto" will be skipped when grub2 is found in the restored OS. * By default "-r" option is on for clonezilla. * ocs-live-dev will try to use symbolic link instead of copying image to working dir. * Packages vmfs-tools, dbus, dmsetup, dmraid, kpartx and device-mappe are included. Alternative Clonezilla live is also switched to be based on Ubuntu karmic. Version 20090831-karmic is available now. Please test them and if any problem, please report. Thanks. GParted is a GUI program, while Clonezilla live only provides text mode. Therefore no GParted in Clonezilla live. If you want to use GParted, you can download GParted live from gparted.sf.net or use DRBL live (http://drbl.sf.net). Steven. Actually the firmwares are included in the package "linux-image" on Ubuntu. E.g. you can run this command on your Ubuntu (say 9.04): dpkg -L linux-image-`uname -r` | grep -F "/lib/firmware" You will see a lot. Steven. Steve Poe wrote: > I did not know that. I did not know that. I thought all testing versions were the pre-live editions and did not include non-free firmware. Why not include them in the live editions? I am not convinced this is the root of the issue, but I would love to be wrong. I don't know why Ubuntu Server works since I don't recall non-free/GPL firmare being included. I'll let you know the results. Are there instructions on how to include a new/revised kernel with a clonezilla-live version? Thanks. I guess the usb-creator tool is not 100% compatible with Clonezilla live. Maybe try http://clonezilla.org/clonezilla-live/liveusb.php to create the SD card Clonezilla live zip file, i.e. not from ISO. Steven. Therefore, I registed again, accepted the confirmation message and was
sent a confirmation/welcome Email.
Guess what: I posted again and the Email I sent disappeared. I await the
same message as above.
Below is the original message I sent (a cry for help):
Dear all,
I backed up a partition as a file. After I installed the new disc drive
and booted CZ, I instructed it to restore a partition from an image.
Part of the process involved telling which file to use, which it found. In
this case:
/2009-08-20-20-WXP.img
The new disc is blank - It has no partitions on it. This is because I had
thought that I had instructed CZ to back up sda1 (Windows XP) to an image,
with the intention to use CZ to restore of image back onto sda1. Slight
hitch: There is no sda1 on the new disc, and I cannot create this because
I am aware that Windows is rather fussy about it. Because of this I used
these options as mentioned in the FAQ for WXP: -j0 t1
The entire command was:
/opt/drbl/sbin/ocs-sr -q2 -c -j0 -t1 -z0 -i 2000 -p true saveparts
"2009-08-20-20-WXP.img" "sda1"
I do not think that CZ can restore a partition image back to the disc
unless it has a valid partition (I really wish I knew this yesterday:( )
I think I am unable to create n sda1 partition as WindowsXP would expect
it, (fdisk, yes i know, but from reading the FAQ then WXP will dislike
sda1 and refuse to boot). Note that the original disc is now inaccessable
so this is the only usuable backup that I have.
*Summary Question*
How can I create the Windows partition correctly from the information in
the img direction, and which command could I then use to restore of the
image into the partition?
Best wishes,
Simon.
N.B I have concatenated the pertinent text files, and for the sda-mbr I
have only provided the output of the 'file' command.

Morning all, Looks like the mailing list accepts my Emails now. Update: I did a 'cat sda.mbr >/dev/sda' This created the partition tables and sda reads as: '# fdisk -l Warning: invalid flag 0x0000 of partition table 5 will be corrected by w(rite) Disk /dev/sda: 500.1 GB, 500107862016 bytes 255 heads, 63 sectors/track, 60801 cylinders Units = cylinders of 16065 * 512 = 8225280 bytes Device Boot Start End Blocks Id System /dev/sda1 * 1 1674 13446373+ 7 HPFS/NTFS /dev/sda2 8219 13250 40419540 f W95 Ext'd (LBA) /dev/sda3 1675 8218 52564680 83 Linux /dev/sda4 13251 14592 10779615 bf Solaris Partition table entries are not in disk order' Then I booted into Clonezilla ISO and tried a 'restoreparts' using 2009-08-20-20-WXP.img, but again it only listed the external USD drives as viable TARGET devices. It won't recognise sda as a TARGET device. Any ideas?
