Hi, I'm trying to use Clonezilla live in a machine that will boot using PXE through its interface eth1. This machine can redirect the console using Serial over Lan with its own hardware and is configured to do so. I added live-getty and console=ttyS0,115200n8 to the kernel command line but I'm having a strange problem. When I'm looking at the serial console, after booting clonezilla, there is output at the console as expected, but some output also goes to the VGA. And it's not the same output. Is like there are two different clonezilla instances in tty1 and ttyS0. They even start cloning the same partitions at diferent times messing all up. At the end one can go to the command line on both consoles and evidently they are two different processes. I hope I had explained the problem clearly. Is there a way to avoid this? To make clonezilla run just in one console? May be this is caused because of the uncommon scenario in which I'm running clonezilla, because I couldn't find much information about this problem on the net. I used clonezilla-live-1.2.2-31 for this test. So I tried with clonezilla-live-1.2.3-15 and the ubuntu based, but there I had another problem. The live-netdev="eth1" is apparently ignored. While running the initrd the ipconfig command tries to configure eth0 using dhcp and does never time out. I hacked the live script inside the image a bit, to replace the DEVICE variable with the value of live-netdev and with some other modifications I could make it start, but the problem of the duplicated clonezilla instances persist. My main problem is this of the console redirection, but I would also like to report the problem I found booting from eth1 if it isn't known. Thanks, Santiago. |

Hi Michael, Which version of Clonezilla live did you use to run that? It's recommended to use the testing Clonezilla live, i.e. 1.2.3-15 or later... Since some of the packages were updated... Especially the program /opt/drbl/sbin/create-debian-live. Steven. Steven, Thanks for your reply :) Using the command line that you provided (verbatim), I tried to remaster the ISO again. It stopped with this error: Some packages could not be installed. This may mean that you have requested an impossible situation or if you are using the unstable distribution that some required packages have not yet been created or been moved out of Incoming. The following information may help to resolve the situation: The following packages have unmet dependencies: aufs-modules-2.6-486: Depends: linux-latest-modules-2.6.30-2-486 but it is not installable E: Broken packages P: Begin unmounting filesystems... mv: cannot stat `debian-live/binary.iso': No such file or directory Any suggestions? I never got the sshd thing working like the clonezilla cd. I have the squashfs mounted - what scripts set it up? Also, about a year ago I figured out how to install cz using apt-get. pretty sure I posted about it, but can't find it. now I get: carl@gw42:/opt/drbl/sbin$ sudo ./clonezilla ./clonezilla: line 8: /opt/drbl//sbin/drbl-conf-functions: No such file or directory ./clonezilla: line 17: check_if_root: command not found ./clonezilla: line 112: ask_and_load_lang_set: command not found ./clonezilla: line 115: check_DIA_set_ESC: command not found Clonezilla mode is ./clonezilla: line 84: --backtitle: command not found ...^C On Sat, Jul 4, 2009 at 1:28 AM, Steven Shiau <st...@nc...> wrote: > Carl. > Pretty cool. Hi, I'm trying to create a custom build of clonezilla-live-1.2.2-31. I found the FAQ entry here informative, but ultimately it failed me: http://drbl.sourceforge.net/faq/fine-print.php?path=./2_System/46_create_clonezilla_live_from_scratch.faq#46_create_clonezilla_live_from_scratch.faq What I'm ultimately trying to accomplish is to create an exact copy of 1.2.2-31 with the addition of a few custom packages. I booted the 1.2.2-31 LiveCD in VMWare and partitioned the raw disk with a single partition, sda1. I created reiserfs on it before proceeding with the steps documented in the FAQ above. Step 6 in the FAQ states that I should edit /opt/drbl/conf/drbl.conf and add my required dependencies to PKG_FROM_DBN_WHICH_OCS_LIVE_NEED, which I did. I then edited /opt/drbl/setup/files/ocs/live-hook/ocs-live-hook and added a few lines near the end to install some custom-built debs from /live-hook-dir in the chroot. So far, so good. Next I tried to build a new image, as documented: create-debian-live -d lenny -i zmanda -l t This also worked, so I created the Clonezilla ISO from the debian-live ISO with ocs-iso. Then I tried to boot the newly minted ISO image in another VMWare virtual machine, but this failed. It looks like the package selection is completely different from the 1.2.2-31 release on sourceforge; for one thing, the kernel image is much older (2.6.26-2-486) and the boot fails early on in the initramfs (before the squashfs is mounted). Are there any documented solutions for building production versions of Clonezilla with a few minimal modifications? Thanks, Mike |

Then you have to hack :) Basically you can check the file /opt/drbl/conf/drbl.conf, find the required packages (PKG_FROM_DBN_WHICH_OCS_LIVE_NEED) on your Arch Linux. You can find all the files here: http://free.nchc.org.tw/drbl-core/ Steven. Hello, i am trying to create my own CloneZilla LiveCD on an Arch Linux distrubition. Please do not ask why i would want that, but i really just would like it and i like playing around ;) So i would need some guidelines how to make something more or what an identical CloneZilla LiveCD just that it runs Arch Linux instead of ubuntu. |

Hi John, If you can, please try these (Of course, backup important data first): 1. Boot clonezilla live on the machine you you can reproduce the problem 2. Enter command line prompt 3. sudo -i 4. . /opt/drbl/sbin/ocs-functions 5. set -x 6. run_grub2_from_restored_os "$grub_partition" "$found_root_partition" "/dev/$grub_hd" Please replace $grub_partition with your grub partition, e.g. /dev/sda1 Replace "$found_root_partition" with your root (/) partition, if you do not separate the /boot from /, this value should be the same with "grub_partition". Replace "/dev/$grub_hd" with your grub disk, e.g. /dev/sda in this case. The complete command is like: run_grub2_from_restored_os /dev/sda1 /dev/sda1 /dev/sda Please show me the output on the screen. If you are familiar with command "screen", you can enter screen in the step (3) so it's easier for you to copy and paste the results. Thanks in advance. Steven. Steven, It is reproducible. I got the exact same error message (except as grub2-sh-yOloXz) in cloning the operating system drive in my second mythtv backend box. Both machines use the same 64 bit Koala install on ASUS M2A-VM HDMI mobos with Seagate drives. What seems unusual to me is that both machines had had separate boot partitions at one time, which had been combined into one ext4 primary partition during the Koala install, when I used automatic partitioning in both cases. The harddrive size increased in both machines during the Clonezilla disk cloning, from Seagate 400GB drives up to 500 in the first case and 750 in the second. In both cases, the swap space appears as the sole item in the extended partition with ~100GB/~350GB of unallocated space thereafter. I used GPartEd to shift the extended partition (and swap) to the end of the drive and expand the primary partition to ~690+GBs on the second machine. I have not altered the 500GB primary cloned drive yet. Please let me know if I can provide you with any more information. I have been looking for grub2 howtos on the web. The sheer volume of conflicting material is off-putting. More power to you in providing such a helpful product. Steven, I found all the favorable comment about CloneZilla on the web while looking for a way to clone a new Ubuntu Koala grub2/ext4 install. The current version of CloneZilla with the Koala kernel did indeed work. One error message appeared in the section about reinstalling grub2: chroot: cannot run command '/grub2-sh-RSkJuV': Exec format error However, the newly cloned drive did boot up (after I reset the harddrive boot order in BIOS). Is this error something that I need to fix? Many thanks for a GREAT LiveCD! John |

Partclone is an open source filesystem backup/cloning utility which
supports the following filesystems:
* Ext2, Ext3, and Ext4
* Reiserfs
* Reiser4
* Xfs
* NTFS
* FAT
* HFS plus
* UFS/UFS2
It is a complement to the popular partimage tool which does not
support ext4 filesystems.
The project's official website is at
http://partclone.org/index.php
Question: Why do I want to write this tutorial for building and
installing partclone?
Answer: The authors of partclone only provide Debian .deb binary
packages in addition to source tarballs. There are no RPM binary
packages for partclone at all.
Pre-requisites:
1. Install the following development packages.
# yum install glibc-devel e2fsprogs-devel
2. Install the libufs2 port to Linux. Read the tutorial here:
http://www.redhat.com/archives/fedora-list/2009-November/msg01253.html
Download the latest partclone source release from
http://sourceforge.net/projects/partclone/files/0.1.9/partclone_0.1.9-4.tar.gz/download
Extract the partclone source tarball after completing the download.
$ tar xfvz partclone_0.1.9-4.tar.gz
Change directory into the partclone source directory tree.
$ cd partclone-0.1.9
Apply the following patch to the configure script.
$ patch < configure-fc11.patch
File configure-fc11.patch:
<CODE>
Patch by Mr. Teo En Ming (Zhang Enming) to allow partclone to compile
and install on Fedora 11 x86_64

Hi Bill, When you restored the image, did you enter expert mode, and choose option "-k1"? If so, Clonezilla should create the partition size proportionally on the target disk, and resize the file system size to fit the partition size. If you just use the beginner mode, by default it uses the partition size from the image. Steven. Update: I finally tried creating the full disk partition and letting clonezilla re-size the file system after restoring the image. This worked. However, I still would like to know why the procedure below would not work. I like using this procedure because I have, for example, about twenty Gateway E4100 machines in my building. They are older machines, and consequently have varying sizes of disks, ranging from 20GB to 250GB. So I like to keep the images at 20GB or 40GB images. Obviously you cannot restore a 250GB image to an 80GB drive, so this is the reason I like to use small partitions for saving images. So, in summary, the issue is restoring a "small" image to a big disk and then re-sizing the NTFS partition afterwards. Thanks. Bill Gurley wrote: > I'm going round and round in circles on this. I'm going round and round in circles on this. It's something I have
done many times in the past, but am now having trouble.
I keep standard Windows XP installation images of various computer
models used in my department. Here's is my problem:
I have a 40GB image that I want to restore to a 250GB hard drive.
Ultimately, I want the single NTFS partition to take up the entire drive.
I normally start this situation by creating an empty 40GB partition on
the target drive, and then use clonezilla live to restore to that. I'm
using all the default settings.
After restoration, I boot to XP, then reboot again.
Then I use a partitioning program, such as gparted (but I have tried
others), to grow the partition.
After booting back into XP, it still sees drive C: as having the
original partition size! If I go into Computer Management > Disk
Management, it shows the NTFS partition with the new increased size.
But the total "capacity" identified by Windows is the original 40GB!
Also: If I use the commercial Partition Magic program, and choose
"Check For Errors", I get two entries that say:
"Information mismatch in directory entry"
Suggestions?
Thanks,
-Bill-
