My team is starting to use 1.2.1-53 to replace the base Vista image with a ThinkPad T400 with a XP image. We Have to use -j0/dd to load the image properly. I thought the latest version would allow us not to use -j0/dd. Any thoughts? Steve Steve Poe | Sr. I.T. Hi Zhou, Linux kernel 2.6.29 is used in Clonezilla live 1.2.2-7. However, if it does not detect your BCM5706S NIC, I am afraid you have to compile that and put it on the Clonezilla live CD: http://www.broadcom.com/support/ethernet_nic/netxtremeii.php There is a hint about how to include that in Clonezilla live: http://clonezilla.org/clonezilla-live/doc/fine-print.php?path=./99_Misc/00_live-initramfs-manual.doc#00_live-initramfs-manual.doc 2. How to put your own binary driver in Clonezilla live without modifying /live/filesystem.squashfs Or you can create clonezilla live from scratch: http://drbl.sourceforge.net/faq/fine-print.php?path=./2_System/46_create_clonezilla_live_from_scratch.faq#46_create_clonezilla_live_from_scratch.faq Regards, Steven. szhou wrote: > Dear Steven, > > I tried both of them, they do not work. > > Thanks a lot ! > > Shirley Zhou > Steven Shiau wrote: >> Hi Szhou, >> Is the Clonezilla live you mentioned in this mail is 1.2.2-7 ? Maybe you can use testing or experimental Clonezilla live a try ? Both of them come with newer kernel, so it might help. Steven. Greetings list- I've been using Clonezilla for quite some time for cloning and otherwise making whole disk backups of my systems. I just tried to write an image to a CF card for a small embedded system I'm working on. During bootup, the system hangs on a bunch of DMA errors related to the CF card. I've tried many different kernel options at the GRUB prompt including "ide0=nodma", "ide=nodma", "ide1=nodma", "nodma", etc all with no avail. One of the options simply made my card 'disappear' when selecting a disk to write from the Clonezilla menu. What else would you look at? I understand that with CF cards, they may or may not support DMA depending on the type of flash, age, etc. Regardless, isn't there a way to simply turn off DMA altogether and still use the card in PIO mode? Disk access speed is not of consequence for this project... Help!!!! --Tim |

Yes, this concept works. Just remember to prepare a small FAT32 partition (say 200 MB) and follow http://clonezilla.org/clonezilla-live/liveusb.php to put clonezilla live and make it bootable. If live helper does not work for you to make it bootable, you can try the method under linux. Steven. Has anyone set up a large USB drive to boot clonezilla-live and also
provide a partition for image storage? The windows usb-helper utility
seems to not like the drive I am trying to use. I can set it up under
linux instead, but I'd appreciate it if someone can confirm that the
concept works or point out any problems to work around.

Release notes for Clonezilla live 1.2.1-53
This is a bug-fixed release with a few improvements. The changes from
1.2.1-39:
- Based on Debian Lenny repository on Apr/06/2009.
- Language files were updated. Thanks to Gianfranco Gentili, Juan
Ramón Martínez, Alex Ibanez Lopez, Jean-Francois Nifenecker, Zhiqiang
Zhang, Gianfranco Gentili, and Annie Wei.
- Merged the revised language file en_US. Thanks to Dylan Pack
<sarpulhu _at_ gmail com>.
- Options -j2 and -j3 were merged to be a single parameter -j2. Thanks
to Orgad Shaneh for this idea.
- Now "-g auto" option will run grub-install only when the grub config
partition is on the restored partitions list.
- ocs-live-dev will use tar instead of zip when recovery file is
larger than 2 GB. Thanks to Frank (frank28 _at_ users sourceforge net)
for this bug report.
- The prompt to use space key to mark the selection was added for
checklist dialog.
- An option -e2 (to use the CHS from EDD when running sfdisk) was
added. This will reduce the possibility of cloned MS windows boot
failure. Thanks to Orgad Shaneh for this idea.
- live-initramfs was patched to work on network booting with 2 or more
NICs exist in the client.
- Udev data instead of lshw is used to get the serial no of hard
drive. It's faster.
- Bugs fixed:
- Failed to overwrite LVM disk when creating partition table.
- ocs-iso removed some files when using toram function and exit
abnormally.
- Script to re-create recovery iso/zip file was not in the mode 755.
- If any single file larger than 4 GB, ocs-iso failed to create the
recovery iso.
- When doing partition to partition clone, if no file system is
identified, dd was not used to clone.
- partclone.ntfsclone was not run if the NTFS boot partition is not
the 1st one on the target disk.
- Failed to create Clonezilla live recovery iso on USB flash drive
version of Clonezilla live.
- Failed to list partition of Mac OS when saving an image. Thanks to
Steve Poe <Steve.Poe _at_ demandtec com>.
- Duplicated "-p true" was used when running "ocs-sr -x".

I guess they are a mix of Clonezilla and Clonezilla+GParted discs, none of them appear to be the 1.2.1 branch. I apologize for not checking to make sure I had the latest version before posting my question. I'll download the latest version and try it! Thank you for making Clonezilla. It has been a wonderful time-saver! -- Marcio -----Original Message----- From: Steven Shiau [mailto:st...@nc...] Sent: Friday, March 06, 2009 5:41 AM To: Marcio Teixeira Cc: clo...@li... Did you try Clonezilla live 1.2.1-39 now in the stable branch ? It will save the hidden data between MBR and first partition and will restore it when you do a disk clone. We have tested it on thinkpad X61, and it works. After the image was saved and restore, it boots successfully, and the function key F11 (for recovery) still works. Steven. Steve, This is really weird... If the problem is on the file system on the partition itself, it should happen again after it's restored by time machine. Anyway, if you can reproduce the problem in the future, please let us know. Steven. Hi, I have been using Clonezilla to make disk images of several older IBM/Lenovo ThinkPad computers (A22p, T42p and T43p) and I've found out that these machines need a special MBR which occupies several sectors for their Rescue and Recovery functionality. I was wondering if there was any way to tell Clonezilla how many sectors of the MBR to save, as this would help get a valid, bootable image. The following is a discussion of workarounds I found mostly for the benefit of other folks who may have ThinkPads and are trying to clone it using Clonezilla. Initially I found that my cloned T42p and T43p laptops would not boot after cloning. The workaround was to boot an XP install disc, run the recovery console, and run FIXMBR from there. This would install a default XP MBR, and allow XP to boot, but would disable IBM Rescue and Recovery functionality. It took me several other days to find a solution, at least for the T42p and T43p laptops, involves running the IBM provided BMGR32.exe for fixing the MBR. The A22p laptops did not have this tool at all, so I ended up having to use a tool called MBRWiz to copy the first four sectors of the harddisk from a working laptop to a non-working one to restore the Rescue and Recovery functionality. -- Marcio |

Thomas, Thanks for your help. The new MacBook Pro shows a Model Identified "MacBookPro5,1" It is a Intel Core 2 Duo, 2.53GHz with 4GB of RAM. The drive is an Hitachi HTS543232K9SA02. I ended up removing the drive, low-level format as XFS and EXT3 then confirm I could image the drive with Clonezilla. No problems. Reinserted into the MacBook Pro, started a Time Machine restore from the Install CD. Rebooted, login fine. Shutdown, then I was able to clone the drive with Clonezilla 1.2.1-44 with problems. 1.2.1-39 still generates an error after mounting /proc. I don't know why the drive table (or format) was an issue, but it was. Reformatting was the key. I think it's kernel issue. Maybe give experimental Clonezilla live which
is based on jaunty a try:
http://free2.nchc.org.tw/clonezilla-live/experimental/ubuntu-based/
Please let us know the results.
Thanks.

Hi Thomas, I have a MacBook Pro with a 160GB drive (Model #A1226) 2.4HGz 4GB of RAM. The MacBook Pro, at work, just shipped to us. Sorry, I don't have the model # with me. It has a 320GB drive. My MacBook Pro works just fine with Clonezilla but the new MacBook Pro does not. Both Macs are running 10.5.6 My suspicions are with the SATA controller and/or disk being different, but that's my opinion. We're schedule to get another MacBook Pro from our supplier soon. I will email you with the model #. Steve -----Original Message----- From: Yu-Chin Tsai [mailto:th...@nc...] Sent: Monday, March 02, 2009 7:40 PM To: Steven Shiau Cc: Steve Poe; clo...@li... Hi, I have a Dell mini 9 netbook with the Atom 1.6ghz processor. I am using a 16gb ssd drive. I have a dual XP / Ubuntu 8.10 setup on my netbook. I am using the older experimental "clonezilla-live-20081112-intrepid" (taken from the Clonezilla-Live-Version on my usb thumb drive). This version does work in failsafe mode only. Any other newer version (latest ones from the clonezilla website) - 1.2.1-39, 1.2.1-37, etc none of them seem to work in failsafe mode (or any other mode). The loading always stalls out with the newer versions. I tried both the ISO on CD & USB thumb drive. The clonezilla OS does load, but it just stalls before getting to a place where I can start a backup. I don't know if it's a Ubuntu issue or something else. That Intrepid version of clonezilla did work but I cant figure out why the newer versions wouldn't work. Thanks, Rich |
