Dear all, As you may know, many Intel motherboards ship with a BIOS fakeraid (software raid). Presently, Clonezilla doesn't seem to know how to handle these, apparently due to mdadm being too old: as far as I know, imsm is supported starting from mdadm V3 and higher. I checked the ubuntu packages, and came to know that v3 will be shipped in the upcoming release 11.04 (natty). The present version of mdadm is below 3. Will Clonezilla support imsm raids by default, and if so, do we need to CTRL-ALT-F2 and fire-up the RAID first with some command line magic? Some relevant info I found on the web: http://www.expert.tc/topic.php?id=159833 -> After running mdadm --assemble --scan which finds and assembles the container, running mdadm -I /dev/md/imsm0 assembles the arrays inside the container. http://www.linuxquestions.org/questions/slackware-14/slackware-13-1-64-bit-with-intel-matrix-storage-manager-807930/ -> a guy struggling to get his RAID working on Slackware, which didn't include mdadm v3 yet. Kind regards, Jürgen Depicker |

I've used Clonezilla to image a desktop and an average Gateway laptop to a Samba share with no issues. I'm not so lucky with a 10" EeePC. On the EeePC, it saves the MBR successfully, then right when it begins to save the first partition (/dev/sda1) and says "Checking the disk space..." the network connection stops functioning. I've verified the network connection stops working by monitoring LAN traffic with Wireshark, and also by going to another virtual console (using ALT-F2) and pinging my router. The pings are successful until right after the MBR is saved and Clonezilla checks for disk space. I've tried the Debian and Ubuntu variations of Clonezilla. In all cases, I'm using the same LAN (all wired, no wireless), same Samba server and login, and same Clonezilla image and settings. I've tried the text-only mode and different compression methods including no compression. It's interesting that a file is placed on the Samba shared called DISK_FULL, even though the available space is more than twice the size of the EeePCs drive. I'm completely bewildered. I've tried this maybe a dozen times and it always acts the same. What could break the network connection at that stage? |

Hi all, I'm completely lost with CloneZilla options. I've 2 disks : - sda with 10 partitions (sda1 to sda10) - sdb with 1 partition (sdb1) I want to resize sdb1 (we have 3 kind of sdb disks, 500Go to 2To). Without resize, I need to create 3 images. Thus, I *need* this functionality. My options : ocs-sr -g auto -e1 auto -e2 -b -r -j2 -k1 -p reboot -or /mnt restoredisk "stable" "sda sdb" Note : /mnt is a mounted remote dir Sometimes it works and sometimes not (sda1 is resized to use all the disk space). Very strange. Any ideas? -- Sebastien Douche <sd...@gm...> Twitter: @sdouche (agile, lean, python, git, open source) |

Stable Clonezilla live 1.2.6-59 has been released. This release of Clonezilla live includes major enhancements, changes and bug fixes. MAJOR ENHANCEMENTS and CHANGES: * The underlying GNU/Linux operating system was upgraded. This release is based on the Debian Sid repository (as of 2011/Jan/13). * Linux kernel was updated to 2.6.32-30. * Live-boot was updated to 2.0.14-1.drbl1, and live-config was updated to 2.0.14-1.drbl2. * Language files were updated. Thanks to Alex Ibáñez López, Zhiqiang Zhang, Gianfranco Gentili, Jean-Francois Nifenecker, and Akira YOSHIYAMA. * Option "-q1" (i.e. force to use dd) was added as an option in expert mode for device to device clone. This could be useful if you want to clone an encrypted partition. * Another example custom-ocs-2 was added. It can be used to save and restore dual boot systems. * //NOTE// From Clonezilla live 1.2.6-24, if you manage the boot parameters by yourself, you have to put the extra boot parameter "config" or "live-config" to make live-config to work. * //NOTE// From Clonezilla live 1.2.6-24, due to the change in Live-boot, the boot parameter to assign static IP address has been changed. The new format is: ip=**[CLIENT_IP]:[SERVER_IP]:[GATEWAY_IP]:[NETMASK]:[HOSTNAME]:[DEVICE]:[AUTOCONF] [,[CLIENT_IP]:[SERVER_IP]:[GATEWAY_IP]:[NETMASK]:[HOSTNAME]:[DEVICE]:[AUTOCONF]]***:: e.g. ip=10.0.0.1::10.0.0.254:255.255.255.0::eth0,:::::eth1:dhcp BUG FIXES * Command "ocs-live-dev -s -d /dev/sda1" failed to copy files to the output dev (/dev/sda1), it was using files linked. Thanks to Asou Y.S. Chang for this bug report. * Force to unmount image repository before rebooting/shutdowning Clonezilla live. Thanks to Manuel Borchers for reporting this. * The option "-j2" was not working when using restoreparts. Thanks to dzundam for this bug report. Sure. This can be done in the expert mode in the future. For the time being, to save an image, we'd better to keep the way it is, i.e. not to touch its file system. However, if you create the partition table on destination disk, and every partition is equal or larger than the source one, yes, you can use the option "-k" and "-r" to make it. By doing this, Clonezilla will skip creating the partition table on the destination, i.e. use the pre-partitioned disk, and "-r" will let something like resize2fs to make the file system size match the partition size. Hope this helps. I was wondering if there is any work on trying to get Clonezilla to scale partitions down before pulling the image and then scale the partition up after pushing the image to a HDD. This would obviously only work with single partition images. Also, it would be nice to be able to set "Primary" partitions so that scaling works on multi partition hdds. -- Kevin Soviero Email: kso...@kv... Phone: +1 512 672 9641 |

On a decent system running the mksquashfs for something the size of clonezilla does not take very long. Also running mksquashfs is only required for changes to initscripts, other scripts can be modified directly from the live system and the diffs saved on an USB stick or on network and applied by live-helper on subsequent rebuilds. Changes to initramfs require only running mkinitramfs which is also not too lenghty, especially if you don't need something like mdadm installed. debian-live allows booting from network so you can serve the initramfs and squashfs image from the build directory without the need to build an iso image or burn CDs. Thanks Michal |

Still you do need to shrink the source partitions before cloning because there is no way to access the partclone images I know of. If there was a FUSE module to make the partclone image accessible as a block device you could both access the files stored in the image and possibly resize it using some md/lvm snapshot functionality in the Linux kernel. I am sure many others would like to see this being implemented within clonezilla. A friend of mine which has a computer lab at a school which I worked before had like 15 machines down. I told her to set up one the way she liked and she did. I then used Clonezilla-live to set up the rest of the machines. I had no problems with the machines that had the same disk size. However not all the machines had the same hard drive size. I still cloned the machine, but it took me a little bit longer to do it. I resized the OS to accomodate to the smaller disk. I ran scandisk + defragmenter, then used Gparted to resize the partition ran chkdsk -p[very important* clonezilla won't restore if there is a filesytem check in windows]. I tried again and it worked :) It can be done, but it takes a little bit longer. It would be awesome if clonezilla could do this by default :) , whenever there is something out there there would hopefully be more users helping in testing. I do appreciate and am thankful to have clonezilla in my arsenal of tools :) Best Regards, Antonio |
