Excellent suggestion but not easy to implement with the current spell checking mechanism. It will have to wait until the first final release of Alpha. Until then the code is considered frozen.

In the "Text" Menu, so far, all items except one are about editing paragraphs or blocks of texts.
The exception is "Text options". All its subitems are in fact about "Typing options".
Still, they can be left in the menu. My opinion: the submenu should not be renamed, but
should be taken out, and all points added directly at the bottom of the
Text menu, below a separator. Also, the items should be verbs:
"Color text"
...
"Correct spelling"
"Replace text"
In my view, all "Spelling" items could go to the "Text" Menu together, also those from the "Tools" menu.

I have found the culprit. This is a problem of canonical form for the key combos. The proc *[intlMenu::defineSystemShortcuts]* makes a string comparison between the old and the new shortcuts when the keyboard is switched. Unfortunately this is not right because the modifiers may be in any order (zoc, or coz etc.). Similarly the key is sometimes in lower case or in upper case. Based on this wrong comparison the new shortcut was created and the old one was deleted but they were the same, so in the end no shortcut remained! I have added a new proc *binding::canonicalizeShortcut* to solve this problem. Changes committed to the repository ([rev. 1512](https://sourceforge.net/p/alphacocoa/code/1512/)). Putting in the missing backslash has no apparent affect. Switching to a French keyboard and then back to U.S. causes the shortcuts to appear and to work properly. Hi Jon,
this is weird. Apparently it works for me. Currently I have the french keyboard activated so that for me the bindings are Cmd-Opt-) and Cmd-Opt-( for Shift Right Space and Shift Left Space respectively. They work for me.
Now, if I turn on the US keyboard (in the Alpha > Preferences > Global Preferences > International panel), I can see the proper bindings in the menu. Additionally if I set the Mac OS X keyboard to US (in the System Preferences), the bindings - this time Cmd-Opt-] and Cmd-Opt-[ - also work.
So, is it possible that the bindings have been redefined by some package on your machine. Could you try the following commands in the Tcl shell:

Aha, now I see a possible issue in the file internationalMenus.tcl: there is a missing backslash at the end of line 359.

Aha, now I see a possible issue in the file internationalMenus.tcl: there is a missing backslash at the end of line 359.
Could you test if it fixes the issue ?

Hi Jon,
this is weird. Apparently it works for me. Currently I have the french keyboard activated so that for me the bindings are Cmd-Opt-) and Cmd-Opt-( for Shift Right Space and Shift Left Space respectively. They work for me.
Now, if I turn on the US keyboard (in the Alpha > Preferences > Global Preferences > International panel), I can see the proper bindings in the menu. Additionally if I set the Mac OS X keyboard to US (in the System Preferences), the bindings - this time Cmd-Opt-] and Cmd-Opt-[ - also work.
So, is it possible that the bindings have been redefined by some package on your machine. Could you try the following commands in the Tcl shell:

This is partly fixed now: * *Matching Lines* renamed as *Find Matching Lines* * Moved Find Repeated Words to the Search menu I'm leaving the *The Pin* menu as is at the moment. Concerning the *Go To* menu, the general idea is to avoid lengthy menus will many items. Grouping functionalities in submenus make the interface less cumbersome. In the "Text" Menu, so far, all items except one are about editing paragraphs or blocks of texts.
The exception is "Text options". All its subitems are in fact about "Typing options".
Still, they can be left in the menu. My opinion: the submenu should not be renamed, but
should be taken out, and all points added directly at the bottom of the
Text menu, below a separator. Also, the items should be verbs:
"Color text"
...
"Correct spelling"
"Replace text"
In my view, all "Spelling" items could go to the "Text" Menu together, also those from the "Tools" menu.

I have finally renamed the *Text Options *submenu as* Editing Options* and moved it to the *Edit* menu.
