Hi all, I have just uploaded a new development release of AlphaCocoa. This is the PR6 release (version 9.0a6). This is the summer harvest. See at the end of this message, the main changes contained in this new release. Most of the effort has been concentrated on the revision of the AlphaTcl library: 58 modes (out of 69) have been revised, 11 menus (out of 18). In the core, macros have been implemented, handling of encodings has been improved. If you had previously downloaded another preview release, make sure you replace it entirely by the new one (in particular if you keep a copy for updates as explained in TN #1: How to update the core). Please, read the release notes which will be displayed the first time you launch AlphaCocoa and can be accessed later from the Help menu. Here is the URL to download the disk image: http://sourceforge.net/projects/alphacocoa/files/PR6/AlphaCocoa-9.0a6.dmg.zip/download (28.52M) The MD5 checksum is: 7132b66370cd4779d5e2d19e8cd2f0d1 The SHA1 checksum is: 105170a7aafd04ba737e687dc7c97c5427a4d427 Don't hesitate to post bug reports, even if they concern a missing functionality which still has to be implemented. Bug reports are essential to keep track of all the deficiencies. See Alpha's Bug Tracker. Thank you for trying AlphaCocoa. Cheers, Bernard Changes from previous version Revision of modes and packages: Aida Mode AppleScript Mode Awk Mode Bc Mode BibTeX Mode Browser Mode C# Mode C, C++ and Objc Modes Camel Mode Change Log Mode Diff Mode DOS Batch Mode Dot Mode Dtd Mode Fortran 77 Mode Fortran 95 Mode Gnuplot Mode Igor Mode JavaScript Mode Lex/Flex Mode Lisp Mode m4 Mode Macros Package Make Mode Maple Mode Metafont Mode Metapost Mode Pascal Mode Perl Mode PHP Mode Plc Mode Python Mode Rdoc Mode RPM Mode Ruby Mode SAS Mode Scheme Mode Setext Mode SPSS Mode SQL Mode Stata Mode TIP Mode Verilog Mode VisualBasic Mode Xml Mode Xsl Mode Yacc/Bison Mode New option -anchored for regexp type in [modeColoring register] command. Modified the syntax of the [getKey] command. New option -d. The -b option now returns the key combo in a format suitable for the [binding] command. The Open Recent submenu now records the encoding of the files. New core command [macroRef] to create and manipulate sequences of recorded actions. The following bugs have been fixed (but remain open until the fix is confirmed): Ticket #45: Setting encoding while opening a file cheers, Bernard |

Hi Joe, thanks for your message. I think all these encoding issues have now been solved and I am about to release the PR6 version (no later than tomorrow). Please check again with PR6 to see it it solves your problems. Cheers, Bernard Le 29 août 2016 à 10:25, Joe Miro <joe...@ui...> a écrit : > I’ve just downloaded AlphaCocoa PR5. Hi Joe, Thanks for reporting this. The handling of encodings had been considerably improved recently and hopefully this kind of problems should be fixed now. AlphaCocoa is able to edit and save files in UTF8 or macRoman or Latin1 (and many othe es). You do not have to convert them before editing. Please wait for Preview Release PR6 which is due beginning of next week. I’ve just downloaded AlphaCocoa PR5. First of all, enormous thanks to Bernard for this great piece of work. I am using it with OSX Yosemite. I have aproblem trying to use my old Alpha files code in MacRoman. I can open them through the open dialog selecting the proper encoding, but if I modify them I cannot save them. I get a “The specified text encoding isn’t applicable” error message. I understand that to use old files with the new Alpha I must convert them to UTF-8. That’s OK, because it is something I should be doing anyway. So I convert a file from MacRoman to UTF-8 using iconv form the terminal. I can open it, but if I modify it and then try to save it, I get the same error message. Is this a bug I should document, or am I doing something wrong? Best regards J. Hi all, I have added a new Question & Answer explaining how to perform incremental searches in a document window with AlphaCocoa. The Find Bar is a cool new feature and is more interactive than the usual Find dialog. Here is the link: QA #3: How to do incremental searching in Alpha ? cheers, Bernard |

I have just uploaded a new development release of AlphaCocoa. This is the PR4 release (version 9.0a4). It is an intermediate upgrade but important changes have been made in the font specifications which require the core to be rebuilt. This is why it seemed easier to make a new release. See at the end of this message, the main changes contained in this new release. A lot of work remains to be done... Bug reports are essential to keep track of all the deficiencies. See Alpha's Bug Tracker. Thank you for trying AlphaCocoa. Cheers, Bernard Changes from previous version Revision of modes and packages: Man mode Filesets Menu Filters Menu Open Windows Menu Super Search core package Toolbar core package Doc Popups core package New core command [getFont] to select a font. New preference and dialog type font. Font preferences are now recorded as font specifications (i-e Tcl dict with name and size keys). New package manViewer.tcl to display man pages. New package fonts.tcl with basic procs to manipulate font specifications. New package extendedAttributes.tcl to display and manipulate extended file system attributes. This is intended as a replacement for the resources stored in the resource fork. New xserv services zip, tar, untar. Complete overhaul of the [toolbar] command. New command [toolbarItem]. New keyword toolbar for [getWinInfo] command. New option -di (diacritics insensitive) in [search] command. New subcommand [findBar perform] to act on the window's find bar. New -name option in all subcommands of [pasteboard] command to handle the different standard OS X pasteboards (not only the general one). The following bugs have been fixed (but remain open until the fix is confirmed): Ticket #7: In dialogs with a text field Return does not trigger default button Ticket #14: "Find bar" editing Ticket #20: Setting font property Ticket #31: Search/replace functionality partially broken in 9.0a2 Ticket #34: Paste in the search field of the "Search and replace" dialog Ticket #40: Menu text and icons rendered incorrectly in dark mode The following bugs have been closed: Ticket #2: Alpha adds wrong copyNum in window's title on saveAs operation Ticket #3: Can't close tiled window panes after creating them Ticket #4: Current pane of split window not updated on mouseDown Ticket #5: Error when cancelling preferences dialog Ticket #6: Status bar prompt is not functional Ticket #8: Problems with Alpha Developer Menu Ticket #9: LaTeX Menu Icon Ticket #11: Menu "Windows -> Shrink window->top" Ticket #16: Informational error when opening text file Ticket #19: Pasting on selected text Ticket #20: Setting font property Ticket #22: Problems with Update AlphaTcl submenu Ticket #23: Alpha crashes when selecting "Open Recent" Ticket #29: Improving dialog when the loading of a package fail Ticket #30: Managing the list of opened windows Ticket #32: Developer Menu mis-named? Yes, that's what I did and it does fix the issue. I just wanted to make sure I wasn't overlooking a step in the build process which would have taken
care of this automatically. Thanks again!

Greg,
sorry for this error, here is the solution. The new icon printer.icns was added a few days ago and is there inside Resources/Images/Icons
but you must install it inside the bundle. Here is the easiest way to do so:
in a terminal window, change directory to the sources folder (the one containing Core/, Docs/, etc) and type the following command
make install-icons
That should fix the problem.
Cheers,
Bernard

Thanks for fixing this! Search/replace now seems to work well.
I did a new pull and build (including updating Alphatcl), and got a "package activation error" due to the inability to find "printer.icns" which
deactivates the toolbar. Here is the log detail:
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Wed Jun 22 10:38:36 EDT 2016
can't find icon file printer.icns
while executing
"error "can't find icon file ${resID}.icns""
(procedure "icon::createMenuIconForID" line 21)
invoked from within
"icon::createMenuIconForID $resID"
(procedure "icon::createMenuIcon" line 7)
invoked from within
"icon::createMenuIcon printer"
(procedure "toolbar::initializePackage" line 35)
invoked from within
"toolbar::initializePackage"
("uplevel" body line 3)
invoked from within
"uplevel #0 {
# Initialization script.
toolbar::initializePackage
}"
I copied the current version of "printer.icns" directly into the app package and all was well. Did I overlook something when performing the build? I
did a "make sf-update" and "make core-update" but the icons didn't propagate into the application during the build.

Hm I don’t have the SWNE triangles on Yosemite. Is it a Mavericks or ElCap thing ? I’ll try on different machines with these systems tomorrow. Hi Joachim, it may sound silly, but how do you enter fullscreen mode with an Alpha window ? Bernard Le 6 juin 2016 à 22:32, Joachim Kock <jk...@us...> a écrit : > > [tickets:#38] fullscreen mode has no escape > > Status: open > Created: Mon Jun 06, 2016 08:32 PM UTC by Joachim Kock > Last Updated: Mon Jun 06, 2016 08:32 PM UTC > Owner: nobody > > Upon entering fullscreen mode (for example by accident), there is no way to come back to normal window view. The correct escape route would be to put the cursor to the top edge of the screen, whereby both menu bar and window bar of the window reappears, allowing a click in the non-fullscreen-mode button. In AlphaCocoa, only the menu bar appears, not the window bar, so there is no button to click. (Only escape is to quit Alpha. This works, except that saving first does not.) > |

I have just uploaded a new preview release (PR3) of AlphaCocoa. This is version 9.0a3 for Mac OS X 10.9 or greater (Mavericks, Yosemite, El Capitan). See at the end of this message, the main changes contained in this new release. A lot of work remains to be done... If you had previously downloaded another preview release, make sure you replace it entirely by the new one (in particular if you keep a working copy for updates as explained in TN #1: How to update the core). Please, read the release notes which will be displayed the first time you launch AlphaCocoa and can be accessed later from the Help menu. Here is the URL to download the disk image: http://sourceforge.net/projects/alphacocoa/files/PR3/AlphaCocoa-9.0a3.dmg.zip/download (27.60M) The MD5 checksum is: d72752c708b0603e4fbd89a54587c054 The SHA1 checksum is: 009fe442845b3e3046ff1e32e49a315ca4c9d455 Don't hesitate to enter bugs, even if they concern a missing functionality which still has to be implemented. Bug reports are essential to keep track of all the deficiencies. See Alpha's Bug Tracker. Thank you for trying AlphaCocoa. Cheers, Bernard Changes from previous version Revision of modes and packages: TeX mode S mode Bugs Tracker menu Recent Folders package Mode Creation Assistant Alpha Developer Menu User Menu SourceForge Menu New command [getAppInfo running] returning the pids of running applications with specified bundle identifier. The command [getAppInfo identifier] now accepts an optional path argument. New core package appIDs.tcl to handle the use of application bundle identifiers. S mode now supports RStudio. R scripts or selections can be sent from AlphaCocoa to be executed by either R.app or RStudio.app. All xserv services are now defined using application bundle identifiers. The function key (fn) can now be used as a modifier to define bindings. It is specified in modifier strings by a letter f (in addition to the already existing letters c, s, o, z). It is displayed in menus by a circled ? symbol. New command [getAppInfo commands] returning the list of all the core Tcl commands defined by AlphaCocoa. The following bugs have been fixed (but remain open until the fix is confirmed): Ticket #32: Developer Menu mis-named? The following bugs have been closed: Ticket #12: "Windows -> Arrange windows" menu Ticket #13: "Show in Finder" command Ticket #21: Creating new mode (Menu AlphaCocoa->Global Setup->Create New Mode) Ticket #23: Alpha crashes when selecting "Open Recent" Ticket #25: Embrace package activation error Ticket #27: Bourne shell mode does not initialize |

I tried that, and it said "just a moment..." and sat there for half an hour; the little spinner didn't rotate either. I can't tell if it succeeded or hung - Alpha seems to respond normally after I quit and re-launch but I'm not sure if it actually updated the Tcl code. :-( It does the same thing each time I try.
