Thanks. Looks nice. Used to use it all the time, then drifted away just cuz I wanted to learn emacs better, just cuz I could use E at work on a windoze machine, but not A. One big thing which I need to get started again with A on my MBP is to figure out how to “fix” the tab key for myself. When I hit the TAB key on my keyboard, I want a TAB character inserted into the text. I know that sounds weird, but I’m a weird guy, and that’s what I want, each time, every time, every mode, every sub-mode, even on Ramadan. Can you tell me the best place to add / alter the prefs to make that happen? Thx, |

Hi all, I'm pleased to announce the release of the final version of Alpha 9.0 ("Vega") for Mac OS X 10.9 or greater. From now on, all versions of Alpha are named after a star. Traditionally, the main stars of a constellation are designated by a greek letter and the brightest is usually called alpha. So, for this 9.0 release, meet Vega, which is α Lyrae, the α star of the Lyra constellation. Please, read the release notes which will be displayed the first time you launch Alpha and can be accessed later from the Help ↣ Developer Help menu. Here is the URL to download the disk image: https://sourceforge.net/projects/alphacocoa/files/9.0/Alpha_9.0.dmg.zip/download (28.65M) The MD5 checksum is: e76985fe14d897cf4b7669db4cc95294 The SHA1 checksum is: dbaf03a2faabc84e7a451410297cfb5207cd697b The RMD160 checksum is: eb00a3f21fa2a0375d7cdf11a3c9f8fa880a6274 The SHA256 checksum is: fbe640d6cb04332e97bb66100176680c95f6ae6f0d25b5983504783c722fa0e7 If you find problems with the application, don't hesitate to post bug reports on Alpha's Bug Tracker. Thank you for using Alpha. Cheers, Bernard |

Thank you for trying again. I think this is fixed now. For the benefit of future generations and historians of Alpha development, here are some technical explanations: when a developer checkout is performed, the AlphaTcl library is entirely replaced inside the bundle so that the tclindex files are wiped out. Normally Alpha would detect this at launch time and trigger a rebuild. Alas, when it executes the proc *alpha::startupAlphaTcl*, among other tasks, it checks that the Tcl version is not too old. To do this, it calls the command *alpha::package vcompare* which has not yet been loaded and, since there are no tclindex files, it can find it. This proc is defined in the file *postguiPkgsDeclare.tcl* which is loaded a few lines after that (too late...). The fix is to source postguiPkgsDeclare.tcl before *alpha::package* is invoked. Changes committed to the repository ([rev. 1514](https://sourceforge.net/p/alphacocoa/code/1514/)). --- ** [tickets:#176] very bad problem while sourcing the file "AlphaPostGuiStartup.tcl"** **Status:** open **Created:** Fri Jul 06, 2018 02:20 PM UTC by Jonathan E. Increasing `hardCodedCounter` in `Alpha.app/Contents/Resources/Libraries/AlphaTcl/Tcl/SystemCode/Init/AlphaVersionInfo.tcl` does not provoke indices to be rebuilt and I still get the error dialog. I can reproduce this with a pristine Alpha version 9.0rc6. This happens because the indices ought to be rebuilt and unfortunately I was too quick in resetting the *hardCodedCounter* to 0 in prevision of the forthcoming release. In other words, could you increase manually the *hardCodedCounter* in the file *Tcl/SystemCode/Init/AlphaVersionInfo.tcl* inside the bundle. Set it to a high value (say 10) to force a rebuild of the indices ? I hope it fixes the issue (it did for me). --- ** [tickets:#176] very bad problem while sourcing the file "AlphaPostGuiStartup.tcl"** **Status:** open **Created:** Fri Jul 06, 2018 02:20 PM UTC by Jonathan E. Hi Jon, I have been experiencing with a two-monitor setup at work and I must confess that I do not understand what you describe: no window has been jumping in all the situations I tested (monitors aligned on the top or the bottom edges, windows high or low on the two monitors etc.). Could you explain exactly what you observe ? --- ** [tickets:#170] Windows jump around when switching between multiple monitors** **Status:** open **Created:** Wed Jun 27, 2018 01:41 PM UTC by Jonathan E. Guyer **Last Updated:** Sat Jun 30, 2018 03:29 PM UTC **Owner:** nobody In a multimonitor setup, if I switch focus to a monitor focus *to another app*, the topmost window on the first monitor is moved down such that it's no higher than the top of the new monitor. I've been doing some research on this subject and it appears (unless I missed something) that this is not feasible in the Cocoa printing model. You would have to play with the scaling factor in order to achieve what you want. A tricky solution though would be to overload Alpha's* [print]* command so that it modifies automatically the size of the document before printing and then revert to the original size once printing is complete. I'll look into this but this will probably have to wait after the final release of Alpha 9.0. Until then the code is considered frozen. --- ** [tickets:#175] Request for Printer Font and Font Size** **Status:** open **Created:** Thu Jul 05, 2018 03:47 PM UTC by Michael Cowen **Last Updated:** Thu Jul 05, 2018 03:47 PM UTC **Owner:** nobody The Printer Settings from AlphaX: Global Prefs: Printing:Printer Font and Global Prefs: Printing:Printer Font Size do not seem to be implemented in Alpha. I like to print at 12 point, but that is too small to read on my monitor. Being able to enlarge the font on the monitor but keep the printer font size at 12 is a major convenience. --- Sent from sourceforge.net because alp...@li... is subscribed to https://sourceforge.net/p/alphacocoa/tickets/ To unsubscribe from further messages, a project admin can change settings at https://sourceforge.net/p/alphacocoa/admin/tickets/options. Hi Giovanni, I just tested this behavior and it seems to work for me. This is what I did: * edited a tex file * typeset the file * edited the log file (the *Revert* item at this point is dimmed) * then switched to the tex file again and typeset it again * then switched to the log file: this time, the status bar displays the warning AND the *Revert* item is enabled. Could you give an exact sequence of actions where this behavior gets wrong ? The check for newer (or older) version of the file on disk is triggered each time a document window is activated. In my previous example, it occurs when I bring the log file to the front after the second typeset. --- ** [tickets:#173] Activation of "Revert To Saved"** **Status:** open **Created:** Thu Jul 05, 2018 08:54 AM UTC by Giovanni Dore **Last Updated:** Thu Jul 05, 2018 08:54 AM UTC **Owner:** nobody In AlphaX when the file for the active window is changed on disk the menu item "Revert To Saved" is active. In Alpha the status bar says "File for window "..." has changed on disk since last save (the version on disk is newer)" but the menu item remains inactive. Sometimes the old behaviour is useful. For example if a tex file is typesetted while the log file is open it is useful to view quickly the new log file. This is difficult as the Cocoa text view changes the cursor on every mouse-moved event.
