Larch provides a wide range of functionality for dealing with arrays of scientific data, and basic tools to make it easy to use and organize complex data. Larch has been primarily developed for dealing with x-ray spectroscopic and scattering data, especially the kind of data collected at modern synchrotrons and x-ray sources. Larch is written in Python and relies heavily on the standard tools for scientific computing with Python (numpy, scipy, matplotlib, and h5py).

    Parse the latest Arxiv RSS stream and get your institute preprints

    Latest on Arxiv is a program/script with a simple job to do. Every day, it will download all pdf files from your favorite Arxiv RSS, and will then scan it to see if any authors from your favorite institute(s) are on there. If so, it will save the resulting index. The matched files are then parsed into a short list, featuring only the latest 4 preprints (which is ideal for a single TV screen in the coffee corner), and a long list which contains every paper in a clickable way. I provide this software as a demonstration on how we do it at the Kapteyn Astronomical Institute. The script is run daily as a cron command. Feel free to take and modify this code any way you want. But if you are using it, I'd love to at least here from you and know I didn't put this up for nothing. The program has no major prerequisites, except the Python package pyPdf. It is build for Python 2.6.x series, but will probably work on many others as well.

    The MITRE Annotation Toolkit (MAT) is a suite of tools which can be used for automated and human tagging of annotations. Annotation is a process, used mostly by researchers in natural language processing, of enhancing documents with information about the various phrase types the documents contain. MAT supports both UI interaction and command-line interaction, and provides various levels of control over the overall annotation process. It can be customized for specific tasks (e.g., named entity identification, de-identification of medical records). The goal of MAT is not to help you configure your training engine (in the default case, the Carafe CRF system) to achieve the best possible performance on your data.
