In the VICE monitor there are three buttons on the right for selecting whether the register and disassembly windows show the data for the CPU or one of the disk drives. The problem is that these become greyed out when the main monitor window is active, and since they are _in_ the main monitor window, it is impossible to use them.

    Yes, I can confirm this problem that is already there for some years.

    I cannot tell you when I will have a look at it, though.

    Tested x64.exe with WinVice-2.0, 2.3 and 2.4. Couldn't reproduce.

    i think the original post is a bit misleading... the problem appears when true drive emulation is disabled, then the button will be "greyed out" (which is correct) - but when enabling true drive emulation again, it will stay like that (which is wrong)

    I was looking for easier bugs to attempt to fix, and tried to repro this one. I can't get it to repro on a build from r29352, x64, Windows 8.1. I tried:

    1. x64sc.exe -default
    2. Ensure TDE is enabled (it is by default)
    3. File -> Monitor
    4. Note "Computer" button is enabled, 8 & 9 buttons are disabled
    5. View -> Register Window
    6. Note 8 button enables
    7. Toggle between 8 & Computer to ensure it works; it does
    8. Close Register window and Monitor window
    9. Disable TDE
    10. File -> Monitor
    11. Note Computer is enabled, 8 & 9 are disabled
    12. Open Registry Window
    13. Note 8 & 9 buttons remain disabled
    14. Re-enable TDE
    15. Repeat steps 3 - 8 to verify drive monitor works

    I also tried the following variations:
    - Hard emulator reset after switching TDE states
    - Leaving Registry Window open (though it closes/reopens with the Monitor)
    - Using x64exe vs. x64sc.exe

    All gives the same expected results.

    Was this fixed along the way, or am I not repro-ing properly?

    Looks like this got fixed along the way. Closing.
