Dear friends, I was requested to allow indexing of more than just the .DOC and .PDF files from the default Plone 3.3.5 installation (which are being indexed correctly). The additional required file types are .XLS, .PPT, and the various ODF variants (specially ODT, ODS and ODP). In my buildout I installed "Products.TextIndexNG3==3.4.1" and "Products.AROfficeTransforms==0.9.4". In Debian, I apt-get-installed openoffice.org, ppthtml, xlhtml, xsltproc, unzip, and pdftohtml (having installed wv and xpdf before I installed Plone). Ran buildout and restarted Zope. Finally, I installed both products in Plone control panel and, in the TextIndexNG3 area, I clicked on the link for recreating indexes. My test case was to create a new file in the corresponding app, with the following phrase: "The quick brown fox jumps over the lazy dog.", then I created the File content item using the regular add content menu in Plone interface and then live-searching for "fox". Now, the situation is this: it's all working for all file types, except for PPTs. Looking at the catalog for all the files, the Searchable Text index usually contained a list of words, among which the text words. But the Fi.ppt (the test file name) index data for the SearchableText index contained: [u'fippt', u'fippt', u'created', u'with', u'ppthtml', u'tmptmpum-5cp', u'created', u'with', u'ppthtml'] (in contrast, the test XLS file, Delta.xls, contained [u'deltaxls', u'deltaxls', u'plan1', u'the', u'quick', u'brown', u'fox', u'jumps', u'over', u'the', u'lazy', u'dog', u'spreadsheets', u'author', u'my', u'name', u'last', u'updated', u'with', u'excel', u'97', u'created', u'with', u'xlhtml', u'051', u'thequickbrownfoxjumpsoverthelazydog']) Two questions: 1 - Was my setup procedure adequate? Did I do more than what was required, or less than what was needed for the site to work? 2 - About indexing PPT files, any ideas on what I could look into for fixing that? 3 - Should I be concerned on using TextIndexNG3 and/or AROfficeTransforms regarding a possible future upgrade to Plone4?
