About

Let your documents speak for themselves. Thanks to its intuitive way of use, its huge feature set, and outstanding performance, you'll create first-class documents, spreadsheets, and presentations with SoftMaker Office. Skip the annoying import and export, SoftMaker Office uses the Microsoft formats DOCX, XLSX, and PPTX as its default file formats. This lets you edit your documents in Microsoft Office directly and without conversion. Edit documents on your smartphone or tablet now as conveniently as on your PC. TextMaker lets you create documents of any size in next to no time, be it a flyer, a brochure, a business letter, or a complete academic paper. PlanMaker makes creating calculations, worksheets, and charts of any complexity a cinch, from a simple timetable to the complete financial planning of your company. As it uses the XLSX file format natively, you can edit Microsoft Excel files true to the original. Create impressive slide shows with presentations.

About

WordCraft is a free, open-source word processor for people who write and format documents. Its ribbon interface provides editing and page-design tools for styles, tables, images, citations, footnotes, tables of contents, comments, and tracked changes, along with spelling and grammar checks and mail merge. It reads and writes DOCX, opens older DOC files, works with ODT, RTF, HTML, Markdown, LaTeX, and plain text, and exports PDF and page images. WordCraft runs as a native application on Windows, macOS, and Linux, and also has a WebAssembly edition that can be hosted on a static server. Its command-line tools, JSON control channel, and Model Context Protocol server support scripted and AI-agent document workflows. The software is in alpha, so file compatibility and feature coverage continue to develop.

Pros & Cons from Real Users

Pros

  • – Speed and lightness; – Easy to adapt to needs; – Convenient interface; – Perfect export/import of files to OpenOffice and MS Office; – Perfect export to PDF (Basic version) and ePub (Pro version); – Works on 3 main operating systems (Windows, Apple, Linux) and is multilingual; – Multi-station license; – Easy to learn without long training.

Cons

  • From my point of view, it is difficult to find larger errors. The small ones are, e.g.: – Attempt to force the use of the "ribbon" instead of the classic menu; – Inability to move the part of long footnotes to the next page; – Inability to use really good dictionaries like "LanguageTool" from OpenOffice (although I cannot say that its dictionaries aren't good enough).
