About

Simple photo editor with AI that helps edit your photos as you imagine it in your eyes. Luminar Neo calculates the depth of a photo and creates a 3D map, making it possible to spread light naturally in 3D space across a 2D image. You can also relight the background and foreground separately, meaning you can darken parts of the image as well. This opens up an opportunity for creative relighting in order to bring your artistic vision to life. Portrait Background RemovalAI is a powerful feature created on the basis of MaskAI, the smart AI technology that quickly detects and selects the objects in the photo. Forget about time-consuming manual selections. Remove the whole background behind the people in your photo, automatically. Portrait Background RemovalAI helps every Luminar artist expand their ideas. Pull the focus on your subject or get the perfect space for further adjustments in your creative compositions.

About

PhotoCraft is a free, open-source raster image editor for photographers, digital artists, designers, and other creative users. It provides layers, masks, adjustment layers, layer styles, text, vector tools, and brushes in a native desktop application, with a WebAssembly build that can be hosted separately. Users can make non-destructive edits with adjustment layers and live-preview filters, select subjects and objects on-device, and refine masks locally. The editor opens and saves layered PSD and PSB documents, supports smart objects and smart filters, and includes color-management tools for RGB, CMYK, Lab, and grayscale documents at 8-, 16-, and 32-bit depths. PhotoCraft is available for macOS, Windows, and Linux, and is distributed as free, open-source software.

Pros & Cons from Real Users

Pros

  • Great variety of tools for beginners and pros AI tools and batch processing Intuitive interface
  • The interface is clean and intuitive — you can start editing without spending hours watching tutorials. AI tools like background removal, relighting, and automatic adjustments genuinely speed up the workflow. Presets are a huge time-saver, especially when applying a consistent look to a full photo set.
  • The AI tools are truly impressive. I love the portrait enhancement features that help improve skin tones and overall look in no time. The software also integrates well with my other editing tools, making it a versatile addition to my workflow.
  • - The AI tools are genuinely helpful and speed up editing. - Huge variety of presets to choose from. - Wide range of tools available. - Very easy to use, even if you’re not an expert.
  • It's modern, aesthetically pleasing, nothing irritating. You can customize it for yourself, and this is important for visual perception. It's also convenient that you can now clear the cache directly from the settings.

Cons

  • It may take longer to process large objects Tools with AI generation may take a little longer to achieve the desired result
  • Exporting large batches of photos can be noticeably slow.
  • There is a slight lag when working with very high-resolution images, but the overall experience is still fantastic
  • - The AI tools don’t always deliver perfect results. - Some basic functions, like adding text or drawing, are missing.
  • I would like more export settings. There are a minimum of them now, and in some scenarios this is not enough.

Pros & Cons from Real Users

Pros

  • What I like most is that it feels familiar immediately. The layout, tools, shortcuts, layers, masks, adjustment layers, and PSD workflow are close enough to traditional professional image editors that there is almost no learning curve. The performance is another big plus. PhotoCraft is written natively in Rust and uses the GPU instead of wrapping everything in Electron, so the whole app feels much more lightweight than I expected.

Cons

  • The main downside is that it is still early alpha. There are still some tools, advanced typography features, generative AI capabilities, and plugin compatibility on the roadmap, so it is not a complete Photoshop replacement yet.
