About

Where good ideas find you. Read and share new perspectives on just about any topic. Everyone’s welcome. The best ideas can change who we are. Medium is where those ideas take shape, take off, and spark powerful conversations. We’re an open platform where 170 million readers come to find insightful and dynamic thinking. Here, expert and undiscovered voices alike dive into the heart of any topic and bring new ideas to the surface. Our purpose is to spread these ideas and deepen understanding of the world. We’re creating a new model for digital publishing. One that supports nuance, complexity, and vital storytelling without giving in to the incentives of advertising. It’s an environment that’s open to everyone but promotes substance and authenticity. And it’s where deeper connections forged between readers and writers can lead to discovery and growth. Together with millions of collaborators, we’re building a trusted and vibrant ecosystem fueled by important ideas.

Pros & Cons from Real Users

Pros

  • One of the only large newsletter service providers who offer you the ability to use their physical address as your own. They will then virtually scan and email you anything you receive. A nice way to protect your privacy without paying for an additional service or PO Box. Once you're a paid user, it has some powerful tools for automating your email campaigns.
  • ConvertKit is a great, affordable alternative to the pricier programs such as Mailchimp, offering a way to connect with my readers.
  • Convertkit is a very productive email marketing tool. This platform is my favorite choice to connect with my clients. Analytics and reports are informative. It offers a quick campaign building.
  • This is a great program to use for automations and drip email campaigns. When you connect to your store it works great!

Cons

  • This is a very expensive service. ConvertKit costs even more than Mailchimp and far more than MailerLite. I know I said they give you a free virtual mail service above, but having your own PO Box would still come out cheaper. The interface is fairly difficult to learn how to use--much harder than MailerLite, for example.
  • Sadly, it doesn't offer as many bells and whistles as Mailchimp, but for the price, it's well worth it.
  • It worked great for me. Nothing to share about cons.
  • There's nothing that I dislike about it. Really like it.

Pros & Cons from Real Users

Pros

  • Good quality articles. TTS option - for listening to the article. Lots of curated collections to group together articles under common theme / topic. Reading list feature to save articles.
  • -Clean, intuitive app. -High quality content. -Real potential to earn as a writer if you can put in the time. -Affordable subscription fee to unlock all content. -Engaged community.
  • It's a solid place to upload information about your company or opinion pieces and start up a conversation in the comments. The look of Medium is very minimalistic, clean and modern. It's good if you've got more to say than can be condensed in a Facebook, Instagram, or Twitter post, and you won't need to do anything to make your content already look great.

Cons

  • Cluttered interface - the main reading window is narrow due to the sidebars. Ads and limited access for free users.
  • -Mobile app makes in-app writing cumbersome. -Tends to get laggy and need restarting/refreshing. -Extremely competitive/saturated market. -Curated feed lacks variety. -Unpaid membership only allows a few premium article views a month.
  • Medium looks good, but you will struggle to stand out from everyone else on the site. There's a lot of people on medium, and opportunities to make money there are slim if all you're doing is posting to Medium. It's okay for posting about your product or in conjunction with other platforms, but not really worthwhile by itself. You get that nice, clean look in exchange, likewise, for being able to customize much of anything.
