About

End-to-end encryption for things that matter. Keybase is secure messaging and file-sharing. We use public key cryptography to ensure your messages stay private. Even we can’t read your chats. Keybase works for families, roommates, clubs, and groups of friends, too. Keybase connects to public identities, too. You can connect with communities from Twitter, Reddit, and elsewhere. Don’t live dangerously when it comes to documents. Keybase can store your group’s photos, videos, and documents with end-to-end encryption. You can set a timer on your most sensitive messages.

About

Session is an end-to-end encrypted messenger that minimizes sensitive metadata, designed and built for people who want absolute privacy and freedom from any form of surveillance. Session accounts are completely anonymous. No phone number or email required. Session doesn’t collect data, so there’s nothing to leak. Send messages through our onion routing network and leave no trace. Session’s code has nothing to hide. Anyone can view, audit, and contribute. With no central point of failure, it’s harder to shut Session down. Talk to your friends or talk to the world. You decide. Closed groups let you talk to up to 20 friends at once, with the same encrypted protection as one-on-one chats. Got a bigger crowd? Use an open group to connect with as many people as you want. Sometimes, a text just isn’t enough. Voice messages let you send something a little more personal, so nothing gets lost in translation.

Pros & Cons from Real Users

Pros

  • Having a place to securely store notes, files, code, and cryptocurrency without worrying about remembering passwords is super useful. The chat function also provides a similar level of security to e.g. Signal or WhatsApp, but with a much better user experience when switching devices, etc.
  • You can easily start an online conversation with the team. Its messages and files are end to end encrypted. Simple and highly flexible mobile application. You can transfer files right from the message box.
  • Keybase has also mobile platform support. The chat room is encrypted and secured. Instant messaging with file attachment supports. Voice mail is also supported.

Cons

  • The app hasn't been updated much ever since Zoom bought out Keybase. Features still work, but nothing's gotten better in the past year or so. There isn't even a native M1 build.
  • Keybase is a perfect messaging tool. You will enjoy it. No dislike.
  • It worked great for me. Nothing to share about cons.

Pros & Cons from Real Users

Pros

  • I found session 2 years ago when it was just put out and was in love, no sign up or logs, top notch encryption and u can dump and create new accounts as quick and easy as pushing a button. Session is the future.
  • The range of features and the actual current demonstrated capabilities and omissions are grand. Open source is critically important and their protocol is based upon tried and true protocols from safe developers. It's a shame you can't trust their situation as an entity - as all of this can become irrelevant immediately in the blink of an eye under a number of plausible - likely, even - scenarios. This weakness must be addressed.
  • Free and open source. End-to-end encrypted messenger. Decentralized. Doesn't require phone number or email. No meta data tracking.
  • Decentralized. E2e encrypted. No email or number required. P2p v.soon. Faster than tor. Easy interface.

Cons

  • It was buggy, but they were working on it. I also noticed something, called sentinel? A file that someone was trying to send me, in the past I've ran into it and believe it's a form of spyware, probably just the person I was chatting with, but idk...
  • You won't find privacy from apps developed in Australia or by Australians. Period. This is very suspicious and what is secure today may be very quickly made insecure and revelatory retrospectively in one quick patch. Do not trust any company at the mercy of Australian lawmakers. Because even they have no say over the matter if push comes to shove.
  • Not really a con of the app but Session is not really popular.
  • Design is not so cool as compare to signal or others.
