About

IntoLayers is an AI-powered tool that converts a single flat image into separate, editable layers. Upload a PNG or JPEG and the model detects every text block, subject, and graphic element, then rebuilds the background underneath with the gaps filled in. Each element comes back as its own named, transparent PNG layer, positioned exactly where it was in the original image. Users can download individual layers or export the complete stack as a single layered PSD file that opens directly in Photoshop, Photopea, Figma, or Affinity Photo, with no manual masking or pen tool required. This differs from background removal, which only extracts one subject and discards the rest; IntoLayers preserves every element as an editable layer. It is built for marketers updating an approved campaign visual, designers who inherited a flyer with no source file, and anyone fixing one element in an AI-generated image without regenerating the whole composition.

About

PhotoCraft is a free, open-source raster image editor for photographers, digital artists, designers, and other creative users. It provides layers, masks, adjustment layers, layer styles, text, vector tools, and brushes in a native desktop application, with a WebAssembly build that can be hosted separately. Users can make non-destructive edits with adjustment layers and live-preview filters, select subjects and objects on-device, and refine masks locally. The editor opens and saves layered PSD and PSB documents, supports smart objects and smart filters, and includes color-management tools for RGB, CMYK, Lab, and grayscale documents at 8-, 16-, and 32-bit depths. PhotoCraft is available for macOS, Windows, and Linux, and is distributed as free, open-source software.

Pros & Cons from Real Users

Pros

  • What I like most is that it feels familiar immediately. The layout, tools, shortcuts, layers, masks, adjustment layers, and PSD workflow are close enough to traditional professional image editors that there is almost no learning curve. The performance is another big plus. PhotoCraft is written natively in Rust and uses the GPU instead of wrapping everything in Electron, so the whole app feels much more lightweight than I expected.

Cons

  • The main downside is that it is still early alpha. There are still some tools, advanced typography features, generative AI capabilities, and plugin compatibility on the roadmap, so it is not a complete Photoshop replacement yet.
