About

Etsy is the global marketplace for unique and creative goods. It’s home to a universe of special, extraordinary items, from unique handcrafted pieces to vintage treasures. In a time of increasing automation, it’s our mission to keep human connection at the heart of commerce. That’s why we built a place where creativity lives and thrives because it’s powered by people. We help our community of sellers turn their ideas into successful businesses. Our platform connects them with millions of buyers looking for an alternative—something special with a human touch, for those moments in life that deserve imagination. As a company, we strive to lead with our guiding principles and to help spread ideas of sustainability and responsibility whose impact can reach far beyond our own business.

About

Where good ideas find you. Read and share new perspectives on just about any topic. Everyone’s welcome. The best ideas can change who we are. Medium is where those ideas take shape, take off, and spark powerful conversations. We’re an open platform where 170 million readers come to find insightful and dynamic thinking. Here, expert and undiscovered voices alike dive into the heart of any topic and bring new ideas to the surface. Our purpose is to spread these ideas and deepen understanding of the world. We’re creating a new model for digital publishing. One that supports nuance, complexity, and vital storytelling without giving in to the incentives of advertising. It’s an environment that’s open to everyone but promotes substance and authenticity. And it’s where deeper connections forged between readers and writers can lead to discovery and growth. Together with millions of collaborators, we’re building a trusted and vibrant ecosystem fueled by important ideas.

Pros & Cons from Real Users

Pros

  • I love that many of the products purchased on Etsy are from small businesses, which it feels good to support them. Each product is very unique and different. I like getting all of my meaningful gifts from Etsy, because the products all seem like they are made with love.
  • Ease of selling. Ease of Buying. Little or low fees for both parties. Ratings make your shop go up higher on the list.
  • The best small business owner platform you can find online. They are a global connection for customers and creatives to sell their art and make a living, I love Etsy!
  • You'll get a bigger audience here than on some of the other indie selling places like Store Envy, but that will also depend on your audience and items. You don't need to do much to set up a shop and you can sell pretty much anything here, from digital downloads to handmade goods to old supplies you have around.

Cons

  • The communication between seller and buyer isn't always the easiest, especially if they are in a different time zone or don't speak the same language.
  • Not a lot to not like about Etsy. Sometimes your craft gets lost within many of the same type of craft, but if you are good, you'll be on top.
  • You have to do your research on the artist, sometimes their products aren’t as high quality as they say. But Etsy is good with requiring a certain standard from their retailers.
  • Etsy's been messing things up for sellers more over the years, especially with the way they do ads. Standing out from the huge amount of sellers can also be tough if you sell something really popular and common.

Pros & Cons from Real Users

Pros

  • Good quality articles. TTS option - for listening to the article. Lots of curated collections to group together articles under common theme / topic. Reading list feature to save articles.
  • -Clean, intuitive app. -High quality content. -Real potential to earn as a writer if you can put in the time. -Affordable subscription fee to unlock all content. -Engaged community.
  • It's a solid place to upload information about your company or opinion pieces and start up a conversation in the comments. The look of Medium is very minimalistic, clean and modern. It's good if you've got more to say than can be condensed in a Facebook, Instagram, or Twitter post, and you won't need to do anything to make your content already look great.

Cons

  • Cluttered interface - the main reading window is narrow due to the sidebars. Ads and limited access for free users.
  • -Mobile app makes in-app writing cumbersome. -Tends to get laggy and need restarting/refreshing. -Extremely competitive/saturated market. -Curated feed lacks variety. -Unpaid membership only allows a few premium article views a month.
  • Medium looks good, but you will struggle to stand out from everyone else on the site. There's a lot of people on medium, and opportunities to make money there are slim if all you're doing is posting to Medium. It's okay for posting about your product or in conjunction with other platforms, but not really worthwhile by itself. You get that nice, clean look in exchange, likewise, for being able to customize much of anything.
