Pros & Cons from Real Users

Pros

  • - That it be open source and free - Developer support - That feedback is taken into account and necessary changes are made to improve the software
  • As a systems administrator and Maintenance professional who's evaluated dozens of CMMS solutions, Atlas CMMS stands out for being genuinely open source (GPL-3.0) - not "freemium with limits" like most competitors claim. The source code is fully available on GitHub, which is crucial for our security audits and customization needs. What impressed me most is the deployment flexibility: we started with the completely free self-hosted version for testing, then easily moved to their managed cloud service without vendor lock-in concerns. The Docker deployment was straightforward, and having unlimited users from day one eliminated budget anxiety. The mobile app's offline capabilities are exceptional - our field technicians can work in areas with poor connectivity and sync when back online. QR code asset scanning streamlines our workflow significantly compared to manual entry systems. For the developer community: The codebase is clean, well-documented, and actively maintained. Contributing to the project or customizing for specific needs is actually feasible, unlike black-box commercial solutions.

Cons

  • There are still some minor bugs that need fixing.
  • iOS App Still in Development : Currently only has native Android app - iOS is planned for Q4 2025( according their Discord channel). While the mobile browser works on iPhones, a native iOS app would complete the mobile experience for mixed-device environments. Limited Third-Party Integrations : Compared to established enterprise CMMS vendors, the integration ecosystem is still developing. However, the REST API and open source nature make custom integrations achievable.

Pros & Cons from Real Users

Pros

  • The process to create a work order, either through generating a PM or submitting a work request, is simple. Users can easily track the progress of any work order. When we upgraded to V14, we started utilizing the routing function for work order approvals. It's helped make approving work more efficient.
  • Customizable with their help. Great people to work with. Very knowledgeable and capable. Open to suggestions. Very reasonably priced.
  • Champs staff is so friendly and knowledgeable. We absolutely love our Champs Contacts and the response has been great. Our Staff is very familiar with Champs and has been using it for many years. When there is an issue, we tend to get fast support.
  • Compared to several other CMMS programs I have used in the past is very user friendly. The Administrative aspect of it is much more intuitive than other options. Basic tasks such as adding users, updated data tables, and changing information is simple. The Support I have received in training as well as follow-up support has been very strong and if I have found an issue resolution has been fast and easy to implement. The grid configuration tool eliminated the need for several custom reports we had as they could not be completed on the front end by creating a custom grid view.
  • Initially coming into my role in Danville, IL @ Quaker as a Planner, I was tasked to learn a system that seemed clunky. However we started reaching out to the CHAMPS team for input, training, etc. As time passed we aligned, and began to plan for an upcoming Innovations Seminar in 2020. During 2019 working with CHAMPS making a list of "bugs/fixes" we would like to address, as well as "wish list" items we would like to see added in addition to the base upgrade roll out for the next year. Throughout conversations we learned of training opportunities as well we took advantage of to create a handful of CHAMPS SuperUSERS for the Danville Quaker site. Continuing to work with Nigel, Barb, BJ, David, and Debbi on any small issues, functional questions we may have since then has been absolutely nothing short of SATISFACTORY at the HIGHEST LEVEL of gratitude and appreciation. Not one single person is too busy to help, try to help or gather information for someone in their absence. Nigel even helped best he could while moving across the country! What other CMMS system can you say that about?

Cons

  • Not being able to access different modules when in other modules. If a user is looking at a work order and wants to see the equipment associated with it, they need to open the equipment module rather than just click on the equipment on the work order and that information open. Users are not able to adjust multiple records at once. Such as changing the ‘State’ from RTW to Working on multiple Work Orders at once.
  • Server based version is harder to navigate than other systems out there. Reports take a bit more knowledge and experience to create. Finance likes other software better.
  • There seems to be a lot of work arounds we need to use in the system. It can take some time to get development items. The mobile app is very basic, and our team currently does not use it. Getting data out of champs can be a challenge at times.
  • One feature that may not apply to all Organizations but is a struggle for me since I manage dozens of different sites across the US and have almost 200 users is that there is no batch update feature. This become tedious when I need to reassign work orders or PMs and I have to touch each individual record to make the assignment changes.
  • What didn't I like about Champs? The only thing I can honestly list is I didn't start reaching out to them sooner to tap into their top tier customer service and support they offer, that you just will not get with some of the bigger CMMS companies. Champs will make things right, and re-do things that deliver subpar to expectation without hesitation. So CON's I can only say, the con would be losing them at any time in the future.
