The Foss Evaluation program will help facilitate the interaction between a researcher and the FOSS/HFOSS projects on the Internet in an easy to use interface to search and find a project based on given criteria. The main functions of the FOSS Evaluation program are to not only search for a project, but to also retrieve and display the following information, if available, for the project: project name, project description, lines of codes, number of commits, maturity of the project, number of downloads, average number of downloads and average number of commits. Based on this information, it can be determined if a project would be an appropriate candidate for a project for students or a particular class.

This project has been separated into different groups to account for the amount of people working on the project. The project consists of these teams:

Output for Advanced Search Results Searching for “firebug” brings up the above screen. Because firebug was not inserted inside of quotations when searched many search results have been displayed. The third result is the one in which we are interested in so the button “Gather Statistics” can be pressed which will search for all relevant data and display back to the user this data in an easy to read interface. The button “GO BACK TO SEARCH” may be clicked to go back to the Screen 1. The first step is to type a project name into the search field found at the top middle section of the screen. For this example we will type “firebug” into this field to find search results on the project firebug. After the project name is typed into this field “Search” is then clicked. The “Advanced Search” button can also be clicked bringing up additional search options. This is covered in a later screen. When the "Advanced Search" link is clicked on the homepage the following screen is displayed with additional search options besides the basic search of Project Name. The user will be prompted to set a number from 1-3 that will count as a passing mark for each mission critical criteria (2 is the default). Also another option to be adjusted is the sum of all secondary criteria ratings that will qualify as a passing (20 is the default). After all fields are completed the user can hit “Submit” leading to ….. or click “Cancel” bringing him back to Screen 2.
