Installation
Windows 10 or Windows 11, x64. Microsoft Edge WebView2 Runtime is required separately, from https://developer.microsoft.com/microsoft-edge/webview2/ . It is not bundled or automatically installed.
Extract the entire ZIP and keep adjacent packaged files together. Run CSVDoctor.exe. The executable is not Authenticode signed, so Windows may show a reputation/security warning. Download only through official ALMARFELD/GitHub links or this verified mirror. Do not disable Windows security.
Features
- Open CSV, TSV and delimited TXT; drag and drop supported
- Detect comma, semicolon, tab or pipe and supported encodings
- Diagnose quoting, uneven rows, blank records and header problems
- Warn about formula prefixes, leading zeros and long numeric identifiers
- Review explicit repairs in source and before/after previews
- Export UTF-8/BOM, selected delimiter and CRLF/LF with a JSON report
Limitations and safety
16 MiB input, 100,000 records, 256 columns and 1,000,000 cells. This is a single-file in-memory tool, not a spreadsheet or batch converter. Original files and existing output/report files are not overwritten. Content-changing repairs are opt-in; rows/columns are never silently removed and identifiers are not converted to numbers/dates. Failed strict parsing blocks export; alternative quote/encoding interpretations require explicit review. CSV cannot prevent Excel from later reinterpreting data: import identifier columns as Text. Optional formula-risk apostrophe prefixing changes cell text and is not a universal security defense. Preview is bounded; export uses the parsed data. A report-write failure after a saved copy is reported as partial export.
