Asawari, I am sorry for the trouble. There is a known buffer overflow problem in 3.5.11 and 3.5.12 where log lines from the JVM that are over 3072 characters in length. This issue was well understood and has been resolved in the 3.5.13 release. Please try upgrading and it should fix this for you. Anyone who is using either of these versions should upgrade their servers immediately if there is a chance that their JVM applications could output long log lines. The buffer overflow is likely to result in a crash which will cause the Wrapper process to terminate, and the JVM to shut itself down immediately. When the Wrapper fails like this, it will not restart the JVM so the application will be down. Manjiri, Thank you for the logs. There were a few things that I noticed. 1) The first JVM infocation's log output simply stops at 2011/11/21 15:30:04 without the Wrapper shutting down. This could happen if the OS was shutdown with a hard power off, or if Wrapper process crashed. 2) The Wrapper is then started up again almost an hour later at 2011/11/21 16:20:42. This time the Wrapper launches the JVM, but times out after 30 seconds waiting for it to start. This could be a problem with the JVM freezing startup, or that your system was so heavily loaded at the time that the JVM was not able to complete its startup within that time. It looks like you have told the Wrapper never to try again with the "wrapper.max_failed_invocations=1" property. So it gives up after the first attempt and exits. If the issue was caused by heavy load, then extending your wrapper.startup.timeout to a longer value might clear this up for you. We have made many improvements to the Wrapper over the years so there is a fairly good chance that this has been improved in the latest versions. 3.2.3 is over 5 years old. I am not able to give you much more information with that version unless you can reproduce this problem with the wrapper.debug=true property set. I would prefer that you try to do so with a newer version however. 3) There was then a 2 day down time. The next launch attempt was at 2011/11/23 13:42:01. What happened between these two events? Was the system rebooted? I have seen rare cases where Windows has resource problems which can cause it to start failing to launch a given process. When that happens, it is never cleared up until the system has been rebooted. Helllo Jason, I'm very sorry for the trouble. I was checking the dump and it seems that you were running into a bug, which was introduced in 3.5.11. We have already noticed that and closed the bug in 3.5.13. So could you please try running this version. The problem is likely to happen after the Wrapper logs a line from the JVM which is longer than 2048 characters. Please let me know if upgrading resolves the issue for you. We're installing JSW on some new machines running Windows Server 2008 R2 on Xeon x64. During some stress testing, we experienced a crash of the wrapper.exe, running as a service. We're using the community edition, 32bit wrapper. Full details of the crash, configuration, OS, and hardware are here: https://gist.github.com/1351512 The crash dump collected by Windows is available here: http://dl.dropbox.com/u/106552/tanuki/AppCrash_wrapper-windows-_3a44a31e28c852f279c5cbaaf9a158847bb738f_cab_33ed97cc.zip Is this a supported combination of the wrapper and OS/hardware? Is this a known problem with a workaround? -jason |

Have moved a software installation fom an old machine to a new one.
How do I do to update the wrapper license file with the new valid hostid?
I´ve tried the License magangement page and submitting the new hostid
and "Refresh"
Unfortunately the wrapper.license.host_id parameter is not updated.

Hi all, I would like to announce the release of 3.5.13 of the Java Service Wrapper. This version is primarily a bug fix release: *) We fixed a potential crash caused by a buffer overflow issue in the code which logs the output from the JVM. The problem would only occur if log output of more than 3072 characters in length was encountered from the JVM. We were able to reproduce a crash on Windows 32-bit, but not on other platforms. The problem existed since 3.5.11 on all platforms however. If there is a chance of logging such long lines then we recommend upgrading all of your servers immediately. *) We also fixed a problem in the UNIX shell script which was breaking the "install" command. This had been introduced in 3.5.12. Please see the release notes for a full list of changes: http://wrapper.tanukisoftware.org/doc/english/release-notes.html#3.5.13 The full release is available on the Wrapper site: http://wrapper.tanukisoftware.com/doc/english/download.jsp In addition to our internal testing, when release new versions, they are released as "Unstable" for a period of approximately 2 weeks. If after that time we have not received any reports of critical problems the version will be upgraded to "Stable" on the site. This makes it possible for you to decide whether you would like to try out the latest and greatest version or stick with a safer known version for deployment with your applications. As always, please let us know how we can continue to improve the Java Service Wrapper to meet your needs. Sincerely, Leif Mortenson Tanuki Software, Ltd. http://www.tanukisoftware.com |

Jose, Sorry for the delay getting back to you. Unfortunately, starting with Windows Vista and 2008, Microsoft decided to change the rules for interactive services so that they can no longer interact with regular desktops. They now have access to a Session 0 desktop as you have already discovered. We are working on a way to make this kind of thing possible, but it will be in a future release. What exactly are you wanting to do? Run a GUI application in a user desktop? If so, do want to show the GUI in a specific desktop, or on all logged in desktops? Hi people, Is there a way to launch an application (in my case is an AIR app) from a service in Windows 7? I tried but I just can see the process of the app in the tasklist, but the app is not shown. The service can send/receive info by socket, but it can not launch an external app. I made a research in Internet and found that from Windows Vista, the services only work in session 0 and the desktop apps from session 1. But I guess there should be a way to do it... Any help? Thanks, Jose. |

If you have a router with multiple WAN connections it could be that the IP is being routed down the wrong one (for example a LAN to LAN connection) ? Hello Sander, This is Roberto from Tanuki Software. Sorry for the problem this is causing you. Could you tell me the error you are getting when you try to access the website? Is it a 500 or 404 error ? Is it a DNS problem? probably the browsers show this as a "Website not found". Could you also try the following: If windows, open a command prompt and type the following command nslookup wrapper.tanukisoftware.com ping 118.22.0.25 If Linux or Mac please type the following in a terminal host wrapper.tanukisoftware.com ping 118.22.0.25 And please send me the results to roberto at tanukisoftware.co.jp as the output of these commands may contain your IP and this is a public mailing list. Thank you, Roberto On Wed, Oct 12, 2011 at 10:39 PM, Sander Koning <s.k...@to...>wrote: > Hi, > > A colleague of mine noted that the wrapper.tanukisoftware.com / > wrapper.tanukisoftware.org site is down and has been so for a few days. > Is there any estimate about how long the outage will last? > > Best regards, > > -- > Sander Koning > Development > TOPdesk Nederland > > w www.topdesk.com > t +31 15 2700900 > e s.k...@to... > > > ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ > All the data continuously generated in your IT infrastructure contains a > definitive record of customers, application performance, security > threats, fraudulent activity and more. Sander, Since the DNS resolution and ping are working that narrows it down a bunch. Are you by chance using a Proxy server? If so it is possible that the resolution from that server is failing for some reason? This is of course something that we very much want to get resolved so I appreciate your help narrowing it down. Thanks also to others for confirming that things are working. Sander, Thank you. That information all looks correct. Are you also able to see the site now? We will have a meeting about this tomorrow and try to come up with some possible causes. The server itself has been fine which only leaves a network problem or DNS issue. Sander I am sorry for the trouble. There have been no outages of the website. I wonder if it is a DNS problem of some kind? What OS are you using? What do you see if you try to "ping wrapper.tanukisoftware.com" ? If it is a DNS problem then it will fail to resolve: $ ping foo.bar ping: cannot resolve foo.bar: Unknown host If it is some other problem then it will get ping timeouts.
