Sander,
Since the DNS resolution and ping are working that narrows it down a
bunch.   Are you by chance using a Proxy server?  If so it is possible
that the resolution from that server is failing for some reason?

This is of course something that we very much want to get resolved so
I appreciate your help narrowing it down.
