Jamie,
I just confirmed that this does indeed work correctly. Also added
another example to
the docs as you suggested. The changes will be in the 3.2.0 docs.
Note that any leading or trailing spaces will be trimmed from the
property when it is
loaded from the configuration file. Spaces in the resulting string will
be treated as part
of the filter.
Cheers,
Leif

Nash,
Usually NoSuchMethod problems are caused by jar version problems...
If a jar
couldn't be found then you would get a class not found exception.
Assuming your wrapper configuration is correct then my first guess
is that you are
not running the JVM that you think you are. If the wrapper is finding
an old JVM then
you could get such problems.
Try setting the wrapper.debug=true property (or
wrapper.java.command.loglevel=INFO
if your version is at least 3.1.2). This will show you the exact
command used to launch the
JVM.
If your wrapper.java.command is simply "java", then the Wrapper will
be locating the
JVM on the system path. Windows always prepends the Windows and
Windows\system32 directories to that path when looking for files.
I always do this to avoid these problems:
wrapper.java.command=%JAVA_HOME%/bin/java
That way I know exactly what is being run no matter where the
application gets
installed.
If that is not the problem then I would need to see the debug
output, wrapper.conf file
and more information on the error you are seeing.
Cheers,
Leif

Hello, I have a rmi client server stup and it runs fine with I start up in the batch mode. It also starts my rmi registry when i start with JSW but when the client talks to the server the request goes to server i get an error saying NoSuchMethod exception. I was using gervany on the previous systems but its failing to startup on a windows 2003 system the service throws an error. Thats the reason i swithched to JSW and=20 was impressed with the amount of customization you can do with JSW. Thanks any Help is greatly appricated. Nash |

Hi Bashiro, I'll give it a shot... Usually NT Services run under a special account called the LSA (Local System Account). This special account has some restrictions on networking privileges. For example see here: http://is-it-true.org/nt/atips/atips317.shtml (There are many more good articles on this + MSDN docs). So I'm guessing your problem is related to this since it runs fine as console and it tries to access a remote system. What you can try to do is set a different account for your service to run under. The way to configure this is well documented in the wrapper properties documentation here: http://wrapper.tanukisoftware.org/doc/english/prop-ntservice-account.html http://wrapper.tanukisoftware.org/doc/english/prop-ntservice-password.html Hope this helps, Ori -----Original Message----- From: wra...@li... Hi. I'm attempting to use a filter in the java service wrapper and am wondering about the behaviour of the string matching with respect to whitespace. Given that the page states " The trigger can be any string." I would assume that whitespace doesn't make a difference, unfortunately it does not specifically state such and the listed examples contain no whitespace. Can anyone confirm whether whitespace is acceptable and if so, would it be possible to at least add an example to the page using whitespace? For example: wrapper.filter.trigger.3=A fatal system error has occurred. wrapper.filter.action.3=RESTART Website: http://wrapper.tanukisoftware.org/doc/english/prop-filter-x-n.html |

Hi,
I"m using the Java Service Wrapper to launch a Java application as a NT
Service.
My application runs fine, but I have to reboot the system.
So i wrote this code :
Process t = Runtime.getRuntime().exec("cmd /c shutdown -R -F -T 0");
It isn"t running. There is nothing written to my logs.
my application, not as a NT service, runs fine and reboot the system.
So, is there a way to avoid this behavior?
Thanks in advance
Laurent

Hi all,
Having a problem starting my service on Windows XP
Home Edition (Version 2002, SP 2). My program works
fine stand alone, as well as in console (-c) mode.
It's only when I go to start in terminal (-t) mode
that I run into the problem:
C:\cygwin\home\spencer\gufgenhome\prod\bin>wrapper.exe
-t ../var/config/gufgen/wrapper.conf
wrapper.debug=TRUE
wrapper | Starting the GUF Generator service...
wrapper | Unable to start the service - Access is
denied. (0x5)
Event viewer reports the problem as Event ID: 7000,
Source: Service Control Manager.
I can register and unregister the service without
error.
Changing the wrapper.java.command property changes
nothing.
Deleting wrapper.dll changes nothing.
I am the Adminsitrator for my computer.
I use a bash script to register the serivce from
inside Cygwin.
The service indicates that its Log On As Local System.
At the windows command prompt I ran: sc query gufgen
and recieved the following message:
SERVICE_NAME: gufgen
TYPE : 10 WIN32_OWN_PROCESS
STATE : 1 STOPPED
(NOT_STOPPABLE,NOT_PAUSABLE,IGNORES_SHUTDOWN)
WIN32_EXIT_CODE : 0 (0x0)
SERVICE_EXIT_CODE : 0 (0x0)
CHECKPOINT : 0x0
WAIT_HINT : 0x0
Any hints as to where this problem stems from would be
much appreciated.
Spencer

Anin, Sorry it is not possible in 3.1.2. The feature has however been implemented for the 3.2.0 release and exists in the CVS source. Leif, Thank you for the suggestions. But problems are still there. It seems nothing changed but the tomcat does not self terminate this time. Actually what I am trying to do is simply repeat the example given in the integration method 2, starting/stopping the Tomcat under unix, (http://wrapper.tanukisoftware.org/doc/english/integrate-start-stop-nix. html). My tomcat is 5.5.9. My Java version is 1.4.2_06-b03.=20 Do these two event affect the two exception? Hello everyone, I had posted this message earlier and haven't heard any response from the gurus of the Java Service Wrapper. So thought I will ask once more.. please give me an answer. http://sourceforge.net/mailarchive/forum.php?thread_id=8091799&forum_id=11948 I have a requirement where I need to make changes to the wrapper configuration file on the fly and then issue a restart using the WrapperManager.restart(). Unfortunately the wrapper exe does not seem to reread the configuration unless an explicit stop and start is issued. I was wondering if this is something that has a workaround, fix or is it going to be available in a future update. Or better still, am I missing something and doing it incorrectly...maybe the feature already exists. Appreciate your reply in advance. Thanks, Anin |

Wei,
Can you try that again with the wrapper.debug=true property set?
That error means
that Wrapper's attempt to launch the 2nd JVM is failing because it can't
find the java
binary... I assume that the Java binary is still there.
Not sure how it would be possible. But I wonder if it is some kind
of a permission
problem. What are the permissions of the java executable? Are there
any native
libraries other than the libwrapper.so file? Maybe something in your
application?
Any native libraries would have to be in the common/lib directory.
On startup, you are getting exceptions about Tomcat not being able
to find classes
that should be there... Most likely related.
This is one I have not seen before :-/ I don't see anything in the
wrapper.conf file
that looks abnormal either.
Cheers,
Leif

Hi All,
I'm new user to this forum. Very nice meet you
all through this forum.
My application is Java RMI based. It uses
Wrapper service to run my applicaton as window nt
service application. My application starts with
binding the RMI registry with port number 1099.
Strangely I'm facing some issues. My services are
configured in such way that when machine restart,my
services also restart.I will write the scenario here.
1. I stopping my rmi services.
2. I'm restarting my machine.
3. application services starts with RMI Registry
binding when system reboots.
Here i'm facing the problem that RMI registry couldn't
bind port number 1099 already in use.
I went to cmd mode and run the command c:\>netstat -na
It showing that 1099 holding by some local services.
cmd result
proto local address foreign address state
--------------------------------------------
TCP 127.0.0.1:1099 127.0.0.1:32000 ESTABLISHED
TCP 127.0.0.1:32000 0.0.0.0 LISTENING
My question here is
Is wrapper services using port 1099 for server socket
listening? If it using this port how can i avoid?
Please advise me...
Regards
M.Arul Thayalan.

Andy, Thanks for looking into this. There is a bug open with a fix here: https://sourceforge.net/tracker/?func=detail&atid=425187&aid=1262323&group_id=39428 Thanks to Alphonse It is going to need to be fixed for the 3.2.0 release. Bila, If you are using integration method #1 or #2, then this should simply be a matter on launching your application's main method directly rather than using the Wrapper. If you are using method #3, then your application may be more integrated with the Wrapper. In this case, you will want to run the Wrapper with the wrapper.debug=true property set. This will cause the full java command line that the Wrapper generates to launch the Wrapper. Copy that entire command into a batch file or shell script. Then, important: Remove the -Dwrapper.key="dgbg0L8YEqqmhdmy" element from that command line. With the key missing, the Java side of the Wrapper will operate in a mode which can be run without the native component. Is that what you are asking? A user donated a Makefile to get this working. I am hoping to be able to include it in the 3.2.0 release when I finally have time to get that completed and out the door. For now, You should be able to download the solaris source and build it manually. From what I understood, it worked right away. Eric, It means that your application failed for some reason or other. I would have to see what came before this to give you a clue. Most likely it is a misconfiguration. Running MakeRequest... wrapper | --> Wrapper Started as Console wrapper | Launching a JVM... wrapper | Startup failed: Timed out waiting for a signal from the JVM. wrapper | wrapper | ------------------------------------------------------------------------ wrapper | Advice: wrapper | The Wrapper consists of a native component as well as a set of classes wrapper | which run within the JVM that it launches. I start the program "./MYWRAPPER start" and then I found as following msg from logs, FATAL | wrapper | 2005/09/08 14:51:29 | There were 5 failed launches in a row, each lasting less than 300 seconds.
