Hello Leif
thanks for the quick help, yes you're right, just insert the \sqllib\bin
dir from DB2 to the
java library path an the app runs.
btw great tool the java service wrapper.
rgds Stefan
Stefan,
I think that driver makes use of a native library. (DLL) The
problem is most likely
being caused by the Wrapper not being able to locate that DLL on the
library path.
When run without the Wrapper, the JVM defaults to the Windows PATH as its
library path. When running with the Wrapper however, you are specifying
a specific
path.
I would suggest figuring out where your native library is located
and then adding
another wrapper.java.library.path.n entry so that location is included.
Another
option is to get the standalone behavior by adding the PATH with:
wrapper.java.library.path.append_system_path=true
http://wrapper.tanukisoftware.org/doc/english/prop-java-library-path-append-system-path.html
Make sure you test in console mode before running as a service. The
PATH
option may not work if the dll is located on the user PATH but not on
the system
PATH. That 's why I prefer to say where the DLL is located, or even
copy it into
the directory where the wrapper.dll is located.
Cheers,
Leif

Hello i've got a java program that runs fine without the wrapper. when i start the program with the wrapper i becom en error when i will open a jdbc connection to a DB2 Database (8.2). hi jean-simon, Right... it definitely looks like it's not the proper way to start my application, however running the app as a service is one of the requierements from many of our clients and i kind of have to do it... no matter how. I really think the wrapper is great and i'm almost there..... Only the fact that the code 0 was returned blocked me from being able to stop it. Any luck about the errors i got ? I might have to go for the native libraries in C++ and i don't really want to :-( Any help would be just perfect. Hi Leif, Thanks for your reply I was able to determine that we are using an old version of the wrapper. I am wondering what file should i download if my OS is "SunOS 5.9 Generic_117172-12 i86pc i386 i86pc"? thanks, piglet __________________________________ Yahoo! Mail for Mobile Take Yahoo! It sounds like running your program as a service is not really what you
need. However, it is not too clear from your messages why you want your
process running as a service.
If you need a GUI for your service you will have to write a little
"client" that supplies that. Under Windows many of the little programs
with an icon in the system "tray" are exactly that.
Maybe a service is not what you need. If you just need something to start
before loggin you have some flexibility (under Windows) as to when you
start your process for example you can run a batch file before loggin.
See:
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/q243486/
You will probably find something equivalent for other OS.

Subject: Re: [Wrapper-user] Start Batch or Exe as a service
Hi all,
thanks to all of you for your replies.
First of all, i want to apologize in advance for the long post i'm about
write.... :-)
At the first place i didn't that i couldn't run an executable or a batch.
but after reading the docu and the reply from you guyz, i undestood it's
not
possible.
So i create a java class (jar actually) that runs that batch. in that case
i
can wrap it up and launch it as a service.
It seemed to work fine, until i realised that it actuality the JVM was
kicked off and started over and over again coz the return value was 0.
So after chekcing the docu, i found the way to get rid of the restart JVM
using:
wrapper.max_failed_invocations=1
wrapper.successful_invocation_time=2000000000
wrapper.jvm_exit.timeout=0
After using this and running it in a console, i get this error:
C:\work\izpack\wrapper_win32_3.1.2\bin>TestWrapper.bat
wrapper | --> Wrapper Started as Console
wrapper | Using system timer.
wrapperp | server listening on port 32000.

wrapper | JVM process exited with a code of 0, leaving the wrapper exit
code set to 0.
wrapper | JVM exited while loading the application.
wrapper | JVM was only running for 0 seconds leading to a failed restart
count of 1.
wrapper | There were 1 failed launches in a row, each lasting less than
2000000000 second
s. Giving up.
wrapper | There may be a configuration problem: please check the logs.
wrapper | <-- Wrapper Stopped
So this prevent the JVM to restart and launch again my batch, but it also
obvioulsy kills the JVM. My servers are running since the batch was
launched
once.
However if i create the service using the InstallApp-NT.bat, then when i
click in start in the windows service GUI for my service, i get the
following error:
Could not start the Test service on local computer.
The service did not return an error. this could be an internal windows
error
or an internal service error.
If the problem persist, contact your system admin.
I'm a bit stocked and it's all brand new for me.
Any help would be just great.
Thanks in advance.
fabrice

Hi... =20 I'm using the wrapper to set up four different services on win NT. All of them execute the same java class, with different startup parameters. Three of them have its status correctly displayed under windows services screen: once the service is started it reports the "started" status. The fourth service initially reports the "started" status, but after a little while it reports "stopped", like if the service crashed - what doesn't happen, the four java process are still alive and the associated logs are continuously updated.=20 =20 Looking at the task manager I noticed that the three first java processes (the ones associated with the services that are correctly displaying the "stated" status) are running using the SYSTEM user, and the java process associated with the wrong status service is running using the user that is logged in. =20 Any help is extremely welcome. Thanks in advance, Fernanda |

Hi, thanks for your prompt reply. I kind of guessed it. However, i think i found a solution for that matter. I created a jar that runs my batch. If you are trying to run a batch file or exe as a service, perhaps you do not want the JAVA service wrapper. It is intended to run a Java class (see http://java.sun.com) as a service. If you want to use a batch file or exe, this is probably not the right tool for the job. Fabrice,
The link Vinod sent covers how to launch an application under the
Wrapper.
The following section and its subsections cover how to actually
integrate your
application.
http://wrapper.tanukisoftware.org/doc/english/integrate.html
Start with Method 1 or 2.
You mentioned running an EXE. Be aware that the JAVA Service Wrapper
is only able to run Java applications.
Cheers,
Leif

tell me what those 6 threads are.
wrapper.request_thread_dump_on_failed_jvm_exit=TRUE
Cheers,

Most likely this means that your classpath is not the same. Could you post the command line you use to launch your application without the Wrapper as well as your wrapper.conf file. Because your class is called "Mpiab_pkg", I wonder if it is a standalone class file, not in a jar. If so, you need to make sure to include the classes directory in the Wrapper's classpath just as you would from the command line. hi,
i am running a java agent platform as a NT-service.i am able to start the
platform as service and everything is fine.i open my agent which is Java
GUI ,which is also displayed. But when i submit a task program (a class file
to execute) it starts executing. But in between it displays a message saying
NoclassDeffound exception.
I try to call the class submitted by using the getConstructor method.
That is where i get the exception.
Exception in thread "Agent#131.230.133.184#2005-08-21#18-49-20-028#0"
java.lang.NoClassDefFoundError: Mpiab_pkg
java.lang.Class.getDeclaredConstructors0(Native Method)
java.lang.Class.privateGetDeclaredConstructors(Class.java:2328)
java.lang.Class.getConstructor0(Class.java:2640)
java.lang.Class.getConstructor(Class.java:1629)
at TaskAgent.live(taskagent.java:538)
de.ikv.grasshopper.agency.Agent.run(Agent.java:431)
java.lang.Thread.run(Thread.java:595)
But when i run the platform and the java application seperately(not with java
wrapper service i do not get the exception).
Could anyone give suggestions.
Thanks
Muthiah M

David,
I don't have such a system. It should be fairly easy to make such a
version
by modifying the build.xml file and adding a new Makefile.openbsd. Many of
the platforms supported by the Wrapper are build by members of the Wrapper
user base who have created makefiles for their platforms and then
contributed
them back to the project.
I would imagine it would be fairly easy to get this working by using
the freebsd
makefile as a starting point.
Cheers,
Leif

I can tell you more by seeing the debug output of the Wrapper. It can be enabled by setting the wrapper.debug=true property. This can be caused by the system being heavily loaded. It means that the Wrapper process did not ping the JVM process for more than 30 seconds. If you are using 3.1.2 of the Wrapper, try setting the wrapper.use_system_time=false property: http://wrapper.tanukisoftware.org/doc/english/prop-use-system-time.html It enables the new Tick based timer which has proved to be more reliable under very highly loaded systems. It is the new default in 3.2.0. Cheers, Leif Piglet Java wrote: >Hello, > >I've experienced this error in my application then my application was automatically restarted by >the wrapper. It is not currently possible to see the version of the Wrapper being used unless you actually launch a JVM. When the WrapperManager class of the JVM is initialized, the following will be displayed in the console and log output: jvm 1 | Wrapper (Version 3.1.2) http://wrapper.tanukisoftware.org jvm 1 | I just modified the Wrapper so you will also be able to get this information by simply running the Wrapper binary without any parameters. This shows the Wrapper usage on current versions of the Wrapper, but starting with 3.2.0, it will now also show the version information.
