Andy,
I am the "official" builder of the Mac OS X wrapper distribution, as
Leif doesn't have access to a Mac. The 3.1.2 version has been out
for quite some time, so obviously it wasn't built on the latest Mac
OS X 10.4.2, but I can't say for sure what version of Mac OS X it was
originally built on.
Since I primarily use the Solaris version in my everyday work, I
decided to try out my application on my Mac again and sure enough I
am seeing the same error you are reporting:
> The application wrapper-macosx quit unexpectedly.

Regarding Apple's site not having information, I tried googling for
"libcrypto ftime" and came across this:
http://www.mail-archive.com/ope...@op.../msg10544.html
That makes me think that a solution may just be to download the
source distribution and compile the wrapper yourself under your
version of Mac OS X. I will try to do the same and report my results
back here.
Cheers,
~Andy

I downloaded the "wrapper_3.1.2_src.tar.gz" distribution from: > http://sourceforge.net/project/showfiles.php? > group_id=39428&package_id=33658&release_id=273902 Then I ran "./build.sh release", and first I got this error: > compile-java: > Compiling 1 source file to /Users/dab/dev/wrapper_3.1.2_src/build/ > classes > javac: target release 1.2 conflicts with default source release 1.5 Oops... Looks like the Wrapper Java build and Mac OS X's JDK 1.5 don't like each other. So I changed to JDK 1.4 and then got these errors: > compile-c-unix: > Created dir: /Users/dab/dev/wrapper_3.1.2_src/bin > if test ! -d .deps; then mkdir .deps; fi > gcc -O3 -Wall -pedantic -DUSE_NANOSLEEP -DMACOSX wrapper.c > wrapperinfo.c wrappereventloop.c wrapper_unix.c property.c logger.c > -lcrypto -o ../../bin/wrapper > In file included from wrapper.c:367: > wrapper.h:268: error: parse error before "u_short" > wrapper.h:268: warning: no semicolon at end of struct or union > wrapper.h:269: warning: type defaults to 'int' in declaration of > 'actualPort' > wrapper.h:269: error: ISO C forbids data definition with no type or > storage class > wrapper.h:346: error: parse error before '}' token > wrapper.h:346: warning: ISO C does not allow extra ';' outside of a > function > wrapper.c: In function 'wrapperProtocolStartServer': > wrapper.c:482: error: dereferencing pointer to incomplete type > ... Yikes! I am a Java developer not a C developer, so I'm going to have to wait until the weekend before I can take time to track this down further. If anyone else has any success compiling Wrapper 3.1.2 on Mac OS 10.4.2 with JDK 1.4 or JDK 1.5 please let me know. Cheers, ~Andy |

Hi, First of all i want to say that this wrapper service is great! Congratulations to the team that build and maintain this. I am wondering what file should i download if my OS is "SunOS 5.9 Generic_117172-12 i86pc i386 i86pc"? thanks, __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!? Tired of spam? Yahoo! Hi, I would like to use the wrapper class for linux only since the service for windows is already taken care of by another mechanism. Is this possible? Is it possible to disable the wrapper class for one or 2 platforms? Thanks, Bila |

Hi I've been using the Java Service wrapper for ages and it's always worked fine. But I'm now getting the the following error if I run it in Mac OSX <snip> dyld: lazy symbol binding failed: Symbol not found: _ftime Referenced from: /Applications/beetlejuice_0.3.26.4/bin/wrapper Expected in: /usr/lib/libcrypto.0.9.7.dylib dyld: Symbol not found: _ftime Referenced from: /Applications/beetlejuice_0.3.26.4/bin/wrapper Expected in: /usr/lib/libcrypto.0.9.7.dylib Trace/BPT trap </snip> Does anyone know why this is suddenly happening? I assume one of the OSX patches has broken something? I can't find any info on Apple's site either. (the same thing happens when I run the osx testwrapper app that comes with the service wrapper) Cheers Andy |

John,
The place to start is almost always at the beginning. Try out the
documentation:

Hi! All, I just use wrapper, want to launch the java.class file. How do I do? I try copy the sh.script.in to /wrapper/bin/java and also copy the java.class file to /wrapper/bin; Finally start it by ./java start. It seem start, it shown starting java....but I check ./java status. It shown java is not running. What I need to config it? I use wrapper in several projects, and each project on several platforms - and I find myself repeating the same setups every time. So, I'm looking to write a maven plugin to package my applications with wrapper. My first question is, does anybody know if this has already been done? I've looked around and can't seem to find anything, but thought I would ask just the same. If not, I was wondering if anybody has any suggestions or thoughts on this subject? I think my final artifact will be a zip file that can simply be unzipped, and an install script run...or a tar/gzip package for non-win32... My plan is to use a velocity template and some basic configuration parameters to allow for a range of "standard" type configurations - of course with the option of overriding any of the options available in the wrapper config file. I would like to be able to generate multiple distributions for different platforms from relatively the same configurations... for instance, i have one application that needs to be deployed to win32, linux, and aix servers - all of the java related configuration is the same, but some things like log file location, etc will need to be different... Anybody have any opinions on any of this? Also, I wanted to question one other thing here - in looking at trying to duplicate these efforts for any platform, I noticed that the wrapper.jar file included with the distributions appears to be very different - for instance, it appears that it was compiled by 1.4.2_03-b02 for the win32 distribution and 1.4.1_02-b06 for the linux distribution - and then IBM's 1.3.1 for the aix distribution....so, is this simply because this is what was available, or are there reasons that I would not be able to use the same jar file in all of my artifacts? Any comments or suggestions would be greatly appreciated... thanks |

Have you ruled out the possibility of some part of your code being the reason for this? If you can, run the app with jmx support enabled (-Dcom.sun.management.jmxremote). This might tell you which thread is consuming 100% cpu and in which method. Regards, Vinod. Hi all I'm using the Wrapper in a productive environment now for about 10 months. So far expect for one problem it runs very fine. About 3 times within this periode i had a strange effect. On a W2k3 Server Dual Xeon the java.exe suddenly, after a period of some months without any problem, consumes constantly 100% of the free processor time. Leave the service running when you do the uninstall. The uninstall will
handle that also.

Hello,
In order to run my Java application as service:
(1) I ran my Java Application as service on XP platform

This action stopped the service but obviously it was not uninstalled.
(3) Now, if i run 'Unstall' script then i get the following message:
OpenService failed - The specified service does not exist as an installed
servic

Can anybody help ??
Thanx in advance !!

Hi. I am looking for a way to detect when a service is restarting as opposed to a regular stop. I am most interested in using this when a RESTART action is triggered by a wrapper.filter.trigger property, however it would also be useful when a service was restarted via the windows services panel (restart button, not stop->start). I can't seem to find a way to do this. Is there any way to detect when a restart action is triggered, or alternatively, is there a way to specify a custom action type for a trigger which would call a method other than stop(). Thanks! |

Brad,
Sorry, I forgot. Could you also set the following property and
rerun this test? It will
tell me what those 6 threads are.
wrapper.request_thread_dump_on_failed_jvm_exit=TRUE
Cheers,
Leif

Hi, I have a requirement where I need to make changes to the wrapper configuration file on the fly and then issue a restart using the WrapperManager.restart(). Unfortunately the wrapper exe does not seem to reread the configuration unless an explicit stop and start is issued. I was wondering if this is something that has a workaround, fix or is it going to be available in a future update. Or better still, am I missing something and doing it incorrectly...maybe the feature already exists. Appreciate your reply in advance. Thanks, Anin |

David. Change that NOW and then send me a new one OFF LIST please. :-) I tried logging in to change the password, but that password is not accepted. Hope nobody else already logged in... David,
I have done that in the past. I will be good, but of course can not
accept
responsibility for any damage done to the system while I am accessing
it. If that
is acceptable then I'd be happy to take a look at it. I will of course
be careful,
but mistakes happen...
Send me the connection information ant I'll try to take a look at it
over the next
few days. (Off-list of course)
Cheers,
Leif

Hello, When a java application runs through the wrapper in console mode, jps shows the PID of the java application process and therefore jstat recoginizes the process. However, if it runs through the wrapper in NTservice mode, jps doesn't list the PID of the java application. Any idea why or workaround?
