Silver base station? Have you checked to see if it's serial=20 number falls into the range of ones that Apple will replace free=20 of charge? There was a known power supply issue on many of them=20 that causes them to hang after a period of time when the power=20 supply is starting to fail and eventually leads to the base=20 station not starting up at all. -Rob On Tuesday, July 16, 2002, at 02:21 PM, Steven Lunetta wrote: > Seems to me that I'm having to go from my comfy chair to the office > where my AirPort Base Station is, unplug it and plug it back in > rather frequently. Seems to me that I'm having to go from my comfy chair to the office where my AirPort Base Station is, unplug it and plug it back in rather frequently. The ABS is maybe 1.5 years old. Is this just a ABS issue or could I be crashing it using Mac OSX? I don't notice this as much those times I'm workiing in 9.1... Hi, First, I wanted to say thank you very much for the driver and making it available. My only problem is that when I reboot, the wireless config comes up. I only need to quit preferences but I was wondering why it always come up at boot time. Is that normal? Thank you, Perry |

I am running the latest driver on a wallstreet pb with an upgraded processor.(G4). I am using an Orinoco Silver Card. When I first installed the driver I got a strong signal. As soon as I switched to my browser and started changing addresses the signal dropped off to a very low point and I couldn't continue. I tried installing the driver again and again got a strong signal, opened my browser to the home page and then lost the signal. The wireless config pane shows just a little bit of signal. One light on the Wavlan card stays lit, the other doesn't light at all. I am using an original Apple Base Station and don't have the WEP or security options on. My connection is DSL and works with fixed static addresses. My connection works fine with the Ethernet cable plugged in. I did zap the pram and do a startup with the Wavlan card in the PC slot and got a strong signal but it didn't last just like the other trials. Below is the troubleshooting info. Hello, I am having trouble getting my D-Link PCMCIA card to work with my PowerBook 333mhz G3. I can get an Airport Signal, and the Airport even recognizes it as Wireless Node, but when I open up Explorer nothing happens, no webpage. What should I do. I have reinstalled the driver. Nothing seems to work. If any more info is needed just email me at jdi...@ma.... Please help! John |

When I try to install the wireless driver with a Netgear MA401 card, the Wireless Preference Pane shows up, but there are no en1 or en2 choices in the Network panel. I rebooted into OS 9 and the card showed up on the desktop. I tried uninstalling and reinstalling the driver, but no go. I'm using 10.1.5. Anything else I can try? thanks, Greg |

I needed another wireless card to put a second laptop on my network, so I purchased an Avaya Silver card. This card was available for a few dollars less than what the Orinoco Silver was selling for -- thinking that all of these are the exact same card as the WaveLan Silver which I've been using flawlessly for over a month. Well, it turns out that the cards aren't exactly the same and require another set of drivers to be installed on the PC (running Windows XP). However, after a few minutes of panic, the card is now working just fine on my PowerBook G3 Wallstreet using these wonderful opensource drivers. The panic resulted from me forgetting to configure the Network pane of System Preferences. I was expecting the same settings from my WaveLan card to carry over to the new card. Once I opened the Network pane and configured my en2 entry (for the Avaya card) things have been working great. I think that there should be a separate entry for the Avaya cards on the FAQ's supported hardware list. I originally thought that the card was incompatible and had already contacted the place that I purchased it from to get an RMA. If the listing would have been there, I would have realized that my own mistake was causing the problem in using this card. I was expecting this to come up sooner or later... 1) Can it be done? Yes, but you'll want to wait for the new source base I've been working on. 2) When is the new code going to be out? Very, very soon - within a week or two. 3) What's changed? Well... I've been contracted by a vendor to support a new USB-based device they will be releasing and the code has been restructured accordingly. As a result of this work, though, I can't help with any open source effort on the USB side. 4) Could you add it? Yes. And, if you do add it, we would be happy to roll it into the project. 5) What would it take? The device would have to be a true Intersil PRISM 2, 2.5 or 3 device. There are some other chipsets out there and we do not support them (except the Lucent/Orinoco/Agere/Proxim one, which was developed in conjunction with Intersil). If it isn't using an Intersil USB interface, the amount of work you'll have to do is going to be that much larger. Hope this helps, -Rob On Tuesday, July 9, 2002, at 03:42 PM, Zack Martin wrote: > I have a ZyXEL Wireless USB Adapter plugged into my pre-airport mac and can not use it because it does not have a Mac OS X driver, I have recently found this project on sourceforge...is there anyway I can change the programming to look at the USB bus instead of the PCMCIA card? I'll take a stab at this. I'm approaching this from the perspective of one advising a neighbour who's having problems. In other words, very loose, anecdotal and, hopefully, usable. As opposed to the geek-mode presentation... As needed, I'm sure others will weigh in with clarification. I've no problem with expanding on my vague directions below. And I can give "thingy" directions as well but another list has that locked up right now :-D At 7:05p +0200 2002/07/05, Steven Jouy wrote: ><snip> >Here's what's happening: >In the prefPane, we entered the network name, ie., the number of the base >station, that is provided by the manufacturer; it's a four-digit number with >two letters (e.g. 0000aa). The broadband router is used to make a connection to your ISP (as a single machine would have directly). The same device then handles/allows the existence of a network of machines inside your home, giving out addresses as requested, directing traffic as needed, etc. Whenever "conversation with the outside" is called for, this device handles it and the ISP "sees" only the one device. Internally, it keeps tabs on who's asking for what and to whom incoming replies should be sent. > >We've browsed through the sourceforge lists, but couldn't find anything >there either..... > >Hopefully someone here knows what's going on. > A caveat - I've never used (or even seen) the RG1000. A friend of mine is trying to connect a TiBook (running OS X 10.1.5) to his DSL line using Orinoco hardware (Silver-PC Card and the RG-1000 base station). We have gone though sourceforge, have d/l and installed the wireless driver but still can't connect to the net, nor are we sure the card connects to the base station. Also, since this is a first as far as wireless networking is concerned, we are not sure we understand the proper proceeding (the sourceforge FAQs weren't helpful in this matter) to connect wirelessly. Here's what's happening: In the prefPane, we entered the network name, ie., the number of the base station, that is provided by the manufacturer; it's a four-digit number with two letters (e.g. 0000aa). Only then do we get full signal strength and a green light on the card. If we enter anything else (as well as leaving the field blank), there's no light on on the card. Also, we only get feedback from the card when WEP is OFF. Turn it on, and the LED on the card goes off. According to the manual, the WEP key should be the last four characters of the base name (hence 000aa); we've tried entering it with and without $ in hex mode; we've tried entering it with and without " " in text mode. Nada. I should also mention that we activated the (en1) port as outlined on sourceforge, we entered the network settings in PPPoE (username, password). Basically, if we try to connect now, using (en1), the internal modem (???) signal shows the dialing out notification, even after deactivating the internal modem port. Eventually, there's an error message saying PPP couldn't connect. Any suggestions? Second question: Can anyone enlighten me as to how one usually connects wirelessly to a DSL line? What are the steps that lead to a successful connection? For instance, when using the old-fashioned cable, I just connect using PPPoE by pressing "connect" -- that's it. But how does it work with a wireless setup? Do I have to 'connect' first to the base station by pressing connect for the wireless card, and then connect again to my internet provider (if yes, how?)? Or is the wireless connection up and running as soon as the computer has finished booting, and then I just need to connect to the internet by using "connect" on the wireless port? We've browsed through the sourceforge lists, but couldn't find anything there either..... Hopefully someone here knows what's going on. Thanks, Steven |

Steven, There is no need to remove the Apple hardware, as far as the software=20 goes, it is recommended to have it installed now for the newer versions=20= of the Preference Pane utilize the software to do Airport password=20 conversion. The only thing you have to worry about is that you need to=20= have only one turned on at a time or you will damage one of the=20 receivers. -- Dave On Wednesday, July 3, 2002, at 07:59 PM, Steven C. OK, let's see... I know that this is going to get asked again and again by various people, so... 1) Yes, I have a copy of Jaguar - I was at WWDC 2) Yes, I do use the driver under Jaguar 3) No, the current release won't work without a minor fix which will be made available when Jaguar gets released. 4) No, Jaguar will not be ready in the next few weeks. The target date was publicly stated as "end of summer" and this has not changed. 5) No, you don't want to be running the developer seeds of Jaguar as they stand now. They are released for developers to test new features out on and to check compatibility. They are not fast and they are not very stable. ...Yuriwho - might be worth adding this one to the FAQ as I've been asked about 10 times now and it's likely on everyone's mind. -Rob On Monday, June 24, 2002, at 10:16 AM, m2...@ma... wrote: > Does the current driver work with OS 10.2 being seeded to developers? > > I am just wondering if when OS 10.2 comes out (maybe the next few weeks), if the current driver will work with it or need to be re-written. > I know a few developers have received beta copies, but wasn't sure if any of the wireless driver development team has. > > > Mark > > > > ------------------------------------------------------- > Sponsored by: > ThinkGeek at http://www.ThinkGeek.com/ > _______________________________________________ > Wirelessdriver-support mailing list > Wir...@li... > https://lists.sourceforge.net/lists/listinfo/wirelessdriver-support |

Hi all, I have recently purchased a brand new Netgear MA401, which should be supported by Wireless Driver. However, I can't get it to work; it won't even be recognized as EN1 or whatever; it simply doesn't anywhere get recognized. Anyone got ideas...? Thanks in advance, Patrick van Halderen |

Hey all, I have been successful using the WirelessDriver on my PowerBook G3/400 with an Orinoco Gold card connecting to an Orinoco RG-1100 Residential Gateway WAP using a closed network. However, whenever I attempt to enable WEP, I am unable to connect (never get an IP from my Linksys FWR, upstream from the gateway) although the network signal meter is strong. Even if I manually set an IP, no go. I am able to get the WEP Key using the Airport Admin utility on a PB G4, which can successfully connect when WEP is enabled. Both the RG-1100 and the Orinoco Wavelan Gold card are 128 bit encryption, so I am puzzled why this isn't working. Thanks- Chris |

Does the current driver work with OS 10.2 being seeded to developers? I am just wondering if when OS 10.2 comes out (maybe the next few weeks), if the current driver will work with it or need to be re-written. I know a few developers have received beta copies, but wasn't sure if any of the wireless driver development team has. Mark |

MacSense has OS 9 drivers and the cards work pretty well. Besides them, the only others that I can think of are Proxim/Farallon/Orinico, Asante (you may remember the run in we had with them earlier this year) and Cisco. There might be more, but that's off the top of my head. I'd like to mention that I've got both a Lucent card (back when they were still Lucent) and a MacSense card. I've also got a few Intersil reference cards from various overseas vendors, but these aren't supported by anyone but us, from what I can tell. The MacSense card works well for me. Anyone else? -Rob On Saturday, June 22, 2002, at 06:43 AM, Martin Girschick wrote: > Yes, I know - it's a bit offtopic here but I hope I don't take to much of your valuable time. > > I'm searching for an alternative for Lucents Gold and Silver cards to operate under Mac OS 9 using either Airport or the Lucent drivers. > > The OSX-Driver developed here support many cards which are quite similar to the lucent card so I thought perhaps some people already tried those "compatible" cards under Mac OS 9 - with success or not. > > If this is too much offtopic here I'd appreciate any answer by personal mail - thanks in advance. > > Martin > > > ------------------------------------------------------- > Sponsored by: > ThinkGeek at http://www.ThinkGeek.com/ > _______________________________________________ > Wirelessdriver-support mailing list > Wir...@li... > https://lists.sourceforge.net/lists/listinfo/wirelessdriver-support |

Yes, I know - it's a bit offtopic here but I hope I don't take to much of your valuable time. Martin |
