Uh. Eek. So, in tracing down various and sundry error messages in syslog, I just realized: I have two webmin directories... /etc/webmin and /usr/libexec/webmin which seem to contain a similar but not identical set of scripts, etc. I believe that /etc/webmin is authoritative, but there's a lot missing from it... I think this might be a side effect of having to restore webmin's config files from backup... It seems that all the config files are in /etc/webmin/ and all the binary files are in /usr/libexec/webmin/ ... but that all the cron scripts and other stuff recovered from the backup expects all the binaries to be in /etc/webmin (which was the case in the original webmin install, which was from a tarball, and not the RPM). For example /etc/webmin/virtual-server has nothing in it but .acl files and the domains directory... all of which is being properly picked up. How do I fix this? Copy everything over to one directory or another? Or am I missing something and things should be this way (the flood of error messages to syslog would seem to indicate otherwise)? Thomas |

Hi, I am using Version 1.180 on localhost.localdomain (Debian GNU/Linux 3.1).When ever i am adding new user with the some group name after this perticular group is not showing the newly added members in the list but when i went to check the /etc/passwd file is showing correct group id why it is not showing under perticular group all the useres i have added. Yes, LDAP Users and Groups is wonderful and you know that I use it as best I can. Indeed to maneuver data, phpldapadmin & GQ pretty much have the concepts down. What I was thinking of is a module to manage the LDAP server itself, rather than the data in it. For the latter, there is already a nice module in Webmin (LDAP Users and Groups) which can connect to any LDAP server and manage users and groups such as those used by NSS-LDAP and Qmail+LDAP. - Jamie |

I have used Jamie's new Dovecot IMAP/POP3 Server module, and it fits the bill quite nicely. Incidentally, Dovecot may be a relatively new player, but it is quickly gaining popularity as one of the fastest, most secure, and easiest servers to set up and maintain. It is also the IMAP/POP3 server of choice by default for all Fedora and Red Hat Linux distributions, including CentOS. For more information, see: http://www.Dovecot.org/ As for those who still prefer Cyrus and/or Courier, there are a couple of third-party modules already available: *Cyrus IMAPd -- *Version: 0.7 (Last Updated September 22 2005) http://www.tecchio.net/webmin/cyrus/ Imapadmin -- IMAP Administration Module for Webmin using the perl IMAP::Admin module. http://www.nwe.de/develop/ Regarding LDAP, there is an excellent free web-based LDAP browser and management tool called phpLDAPadmin. I highly recommend it. With something like this, I would argue there is little need for an OpenLDAP administration module in Webmin, although it might be nice just to have a basic one to manage the config file and then create a link to phpLDAPadmin for all of the directory management. For more information, see: http://phpLDAPadmin.sourceforge.net/ Enjoy! I know there are a few vague 3rd party mods for this, but is there any chance that in the long run we'll see standard modules for IMAP and OpenLDAP? I would think Cyrus/Courier IMAP would be the norm... Unfortunately I don't know enough about module development to hammer one out. -- find / -name "*base*" -user your -print |xargs 'chown us' |

Nothing more, nothing less. Just like everything else in FreeBSD (1 config file, 1 line per whatever, and it just works). Getting the logrotate module to support newsyslog may take a lot of work, though, since they are so different. Added a custom command file editor is a decent "solution" until then. :) --=20 Freddie Cash, CCNT CCLP Helpdesk / Network Support Tech. It looks like something has hung just after the user was created.. This could be the setting of the user's quota, or the creation of his mail file. Which mail server are you using there? i'm having problems setting up domains with Virtualmin
i'm running Debian Linux 3.0
with Webmin 1.230
and Virtulamin 2.60
i've already got nearly 200 domains set-up on this server with Virtulamin
however, when i've just tried to create some new domains they have failed to
be set-up
e.g. i want to set-up a new domain (lets call it domain.tld)
i create a new domain in virtulamin
https://my-server:10000/virtual-server/domain_setup.cgi
Setting Up Virtual Server
In domain domain.tld
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Creating home directory ..
.. done
Creating Unix group domain.tld ..
.. done
Creating Unix user domain.tld ..
.. done
but it just gets this far & hangs
i've left it for 10 minutes to see if its a time problem - but nothing moves
on
if i go to Virtualmin to see if the domain was set-up anyway - its not
https://my-server:10000/virtual-server/search.cgi?field=dom&what=domain.tld
Search Results
No virtual servers containing domain.tld were found
but if i do a search on https://my-server:10000/useradmin/index.cgi
then it finds a user called domain.tld
and
https://my-server:10000/mailboxes/list_mail.cgi?user=domain.tld
shows the sendmail inbox
so i think - OK lets see if i can import the domain into Virtulamin
https://my-server:10000/virtual-server/import_form.cgi
shows this result
Import Virtual Server
Working out what will be imported ..
Can import existing Unix user domain.tld for domain.
Can import existing Unix group domain.tld for mailbox users.
Can import 1 mailbox users who have the primary group domain.tld.
Server is not accepting email for domain domain.tld.
No Apache virtual host matching domain.tld was found.
Webalizer is not set up for reporting on log file .
No BIND DNS domain named domain.tld was found.
(that's fine as it wasn't asked to set up the Bind)
Logrotate is not set up for log file .
No Webmin user for this domain.
No unique virtual IP address for this domain.
Are you sure you want to carry out the import actions listed
above in bold?
i say yes - go ahead
Virtulamin says
https://my-server:10000/virtual-server/save_domain.cgi
Save Server
In domain domain.tld
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Modifying Unix user ..
.. done
Changing Unix quota ..
and just hangs again
the domain name is not very long
(i've also tried to set up 2 other domains with the same failure results)
i've tried to set them up from a remote PC running windoze XP
i've tried a Firefox & ie6 browser - both fail at the same point
does anybody any ideas what has caused this
and how it can be fixed
Regards
Martyn

'syslog' is the c utility that actually writes the logfile, rules for that are in /etc/syslog.conf. # logfilename [owner:group] mode count size when flags [/pid_file] [sig_num] /var/log/cron 600 14 * $D00 Z /var/log/amd.log 644 7 100 * Z /var/log/auth.log 600 14 * $D00 Z /var/log/kerberos.log 600 7 100 * Z /var/log/lpd-errs 644 7 100 * Z /var/log/maillog 640 14 * $D00 Z /var/log/sendmail.st 640 10 * 168 B /var/log/messages 644 14 * $D00 Z /var/log/all.log 600 14 * $D00 Z /var/log/slip.log root:network 640 3 100 * Z I don't know what logrotate looks like, never used it! -Grant ----- Original Message ----- From: "Jamie Cameron" <jca...@we...> To: <web...@li...> Sent: Monday, October 10, 2005 9:16 AM Subject: Re: [webmin-l] Logrotate - Newsyslog > Hi Grant, > > Does newsyslog use the exact same config file format as logrotate? Hi Grant, Does newsyslog use the exact same config file format as logrotate? If so, then perhaps I could update the logrotate module .. otherwise, it would be touger. Actually, from the name it sounds like newsyslog is a replacement for syslog, rather than for logrotate.. - Jamie On Mon, 2005-10-10 at 22:17, Grant Peel wrote: > Hi Jamie, > > Is there any change we can coerce you into updateting the Logrotate module > so it will work with FreeBSD's newsyslog utility.
