I thought that cluster copy files was a way to copy files from one webmin server to another. I have the box I want to copy files over to setup with the second server I want to copy the files over to and can access the server using webmin and the rpc works as I am successfully transferring DNS information between the 2. However when I try to use the Cluster Copy Files all files to be copied fail. Any ideas why? Ok, this is finally fixed .. for some reason it took sourceforge a while to give me a access to the data in the old MySQL database used for third-party modules, so I could load it into the new database. - Jamie |

Without a GUI/X any current distro should work. CentOS and Ubuntu are good depending on your taste. A good discussion (but terrible colors) at http://www.volny.cz/basiclinux/oldpc/ |

I don't see any other options apart from the Edit Module Configuration option probably because I am still using 1.18 but it does what I require for now. I will try the latest Webmin version shortly. If such a feature exists, it would have to be in Webmin rather than Usermin.. theoretically, a module could be created that allows a user to create an account, and then you could grant anonymous access to this module. However, no such module exists yet :-) It would make an interesting plugin to Virtualmin though.. - Jamie > > > |

It would be possible to write programs to perform some Webmin actions from a shell prompt, but very few modules actually have any. Virtualmin is probably the only exception .. You would be better off using command-line programs and editors to do the same things that Webmin does automatically when you use the web interface. > Another question, is there a module to allow downloading files from a > webmin server to a local machine? without using the java filemanager? That's the reason most people use a command shell. Seriously though, if you want to use a fast non-java GUI interface, use WinSCP2/WinSCP3 to exchange files but if you want to edit in place, use a command shell. Java does take time to set up. The faster the desktop, the less time it takes. Craig -- This message has been scanned for viruses and dangerous content by MailScanner, and is believed to be clean. |

Hi, Just a couple of questions this time :) Is there any documentation anyware that gives a list of the command line versions of the webmin modules? i see plenty of referances to being able to run certain command lines to do the equiv. of the webmin modules, but cant find any referances to them in the books :( (sorry folks if there in there and ive not seen them, normally its not a complaint from me, but theres a heck of a lot of pages in those books :) ) Another question, is there a module to allow downloading files from a webmin server to a local machine? without using the java filemanager? I know u can upload files using one of the modules, but i cant see any way to do this without going into the file manager, which takes AGES to load in comparison to all the other webmin modules :( Also is there a way to increase the speed of the filemanager module in any way? the basic startup after clicking on the link can be very frustrating when u have a customer on the end of the phone, complaining that they MUST have this or that file available :( Yours Matt -- This message has been scanned for viruses and dangerous content by the www.ms.mlsis.co.uk MailScanner, and is believed to be clean. You are right that the FTP protocol has no way to know what site a user is connecting to, unless they each have separate IP addresses. However, this only matters if you are doing virtual anonymous FTP hosting.. If you just want to allow domain owners and other users to FTP in to manage files, any FTP server in the default configuration should work fine. If your users are having trouble logging in, check /var/log/secure or authlog for error messages .. perhaps they have the wrong shell? - Jamie |

I do not want to design this module. But there is a way to do it with = webmin and virtualmin. Another option is squirrelmail. Have them stop using = usermin and move them toward squirrelmail there are virtual words and scripts = that can do what you are asking for. ------------------------------------------ Vernon J. Ravi Gehlot wrote: > Clients are asking to have a feature in usermin so they can create > their own e-mail accounts. I haven't found this option. Any hints? > > Ravi. There was a question back some time ago, about what we'd like to see, where we'd like to go with Webmin. As a hosting provider, the things that are 'constant' from our customers are mostly mail related. Address changes, add a box / remove a box, mail forwarding, autoresponders and an interface for reading mail or deleting mail when Outlook hangs on those corrupted emails. Usermin is very close to filling this need (most of the tools are there but it's just too geeky). If it could tie in with Virtualmin with regards to the number of allowed email accounts, add remove mailboxes/aliases... quotas and such.... that would be great. The problem is the terminology is way over the heads of or totally confusing to our 'average user'. I would greatly like to see a 'simpleminded' dumb'User'min. As a provider, we could turn off many of the more advanced modules, which are an invitation to mess something up for most of our people. I will volunteer myself and my partner to make suggestions with regards to the interface should you wish to consider this proposal. This would provide a solution to the biggest support issue we deal with. Best, John Hinton |

Hi, Jamie, great work on this for sure. I've been through hundreds of the list emails and the book (and forum if you will) but haven't found and answer for this, especially for the simple minded like me. I'm trying to use ProFTP and Apache with shared IP addressing and get the following out of the box results. **Virtual domain http access works but added email/FTP users don't show up ( actually I haven't even figured what the URL would be). **Virtual domain FTP won't log in (bad password) but the added user can FTP I understand that ProFTP has no protcol for shared IP and as such Virtualmin doesn't create a virtual ftpserver. So how do I get around this constraint? I know it can be done as I have remotely administered sites that do this through IManager. I have Home mounted on it's own disk. I know some of the user access is due to being Unix user but I'm lost. I appologize for such a low level question but it doesn't get answered on the forum. Thanks, Dan |

Hi David, Did you perhaps upgrade the openssl or Net::SSLeay packages recently? A change in one of them could cause a problem like this. If you upgraded openssl, it may be worth re-installing the Net::SSLeay Perl module. - Jamie -----Original Message----- From: David Gibbs <da...@mi...> Subj: [webmin-l] Logging in via https consumes memory Date: Thu 10 Nov 2005 11:50 am Size: 944 bytes To: web...@li... Hello, webadmin-list world! Using Webmin in an Apache "subdirectory" is causing some scripts to duplicate the prefix directory in URLs when it &redirects. I've followed the instructions on http://webmin.com/apache.html to set up Webmin to be available in an apparent subdirectory, namely http://$hostname/admin (I have not used virtual hosts deliberately, since to use them across the many servers on the LAN would require some non-trivial changes in the local DNS). Using Debian "sarge" (a.k.a. 3.1) stable, Apache/2.0.54, Webmin/1.180 (both of which being the most up-to-date available in the distribution), I have the following configuration in /etc/apache2/sites-enabled (apparently it didn't like being in /etc/apache2/conf.d): # Apache config for Webmin # Webmin files are installed in /usr/share Alias /admin /usr/share/webmin <Directory /usr/share/webmin> AddHandler cgi-script .cgi DirectoryIndex index.cgi # Reason for FollowSymLinks explained later Options ExecCGI FollowSymLinks SetEnv WEBMIN_CONFIG /etc/webmin SetEnv WEBMIN_VAR /var/webmin SetEnv SERVER_ROOT /usr/share/webmin SetEnv MINISERV_CONFIG /etc/webmin/miniserv.conf # This shell expansion is mental-only ;-) AuthName "Webmin on $hostname" AuthType basic AuthUserFile /etc/webmin/htusers # file created with htpasswd require valid-user </Directory> As well as this, the CGIs themselves are now passing the -U option to perl, and /etc/webmin/config now sports the line webprefix=3D/admin When I try to execute some of the scripts, the prefix in the path gets duplicated, e.g. http://$hostname/admin/dhcp/list_leases.cgi - clicking on a lease to delete it ... http://$hostname/admin/dhcp/delete_lease.cgi - when it's done, it redirects to .. http://$hostname/admin/admin/dhcp/list_leases.cgi - note that "admin" now appears twice Originally, this returned a 404 (obviously, the path didn't exist). I added in a symlink, which predictably returned 403. When I added the FollowSymLinks option, I now get the curious message: Access denied : User root is not allowed to use the module (Note two spaces before "module", suggesting there's an empty variable in there somewhere). Is there something I've missed in my configuration, or is there a bug (possibly one that has already been fixed) in there somewhere?
