Jamie: Thanks for the clarification. I took the time to try this out and I find that both broadcast and scan only want to work if the UDP port on the servers is set to 10000. My non standard port won't work there. I see the UDP listener in place on the desired port using netstat, but it still doesn't seem to work. Another minor issue: if your servers are multihomed and listen on all interfaces, the broadcast option finds them on all interfaces and adds multiple instances of the same machine. I understand this is probably because they appear to be different based on IP - but they do report the same server name. I wonder if it's worth de-duping on name, or at least prompting for confirmation before adding when more than one with the same name was found. Neither of these are show-stoppers, but maybe you'd want to add them to your list of future fixes... As always, thanks for your support and the great software! Regards, Neal Morgan=20 -----Original Message----- From: web...@li... [mailto:web...@li...] On Behalf Of Jamie Cameron Sent: Tuesday, February 14, 2006 3:04 PM To: web...@li... Subject: Re: [webmin-l] Webmin Servers, Broadcast/scan <snip> Hi Neal, Webmin actually listens on two ports, which by default are port 10000 TCP and 10000 UDP. The first is for the actual HTTP connections, while the second is for accepting broadcasts from other Webmin servers. They are actually configured separately on the 'Ports and Addresses' page of the 'Webmin Configuration' module. When sending a broadcast, Webmin will send to the same port number that it listens on itself. - Jamie |

Is it possible to give me details (or at least hints) of what need to be

have no working change password feature.

Hi Dave,
Thanks, I see the cause of this problem now ... it can happen if changing
the password of a user whose password is currently blank. The next release
of Webmin will fix it though.

Hi Dave,
That looks like a bug in Webmin.
Which module are you doing the password change in though? It seems that the
caller of unix_crypt is passing in the wrong parameters.

Message
Previously, whenI was using the Webmin 1.230 (on RedHat EL3)passwd module,
there were no problems.
Now, using the Webmin 1.250 version, I get the error Failed to change
password : Failed to encrypt password :.
Looking at web-funcs-lib.pl, at the unix_crypt() subroutine, I can see that
if the call to crypt() fails, then Crypt::UnixCrypt is used instead. Indeed,
in my case the
$rv = eval crypt(\$pass, \$salt);
call is resulting in $rv being undef. The fallback to Crypt::UnixCrypt does
not work because I do not have that perl module installed.
Now my question is: why is the call to crypt() failing? It was not failing
previously. Doing a little digging, I discovered the when the failure
occurs, $pass is equal to the old password and $salt is equal to undef.
Without salt, crypt() appears to return nothing. Why is the salt undef?
Thanks
Dave Isaacs

to solve this... you need:
1.- a partition where no quotas has been defined for pop users (perhaps
your /tmp dir is in a different partition).. be sure that this partition
has enough space available
2.- you need to add this line to your config file for qpopper (more about
the file in 3.- how to find it or create it) :
set temp-dir = path
where path could be /tmp or any other dir in a partition where your users
don't have quota.
NOTE: be sure that not all files are removed from /tmp if the machine
reboots... any decent system should check... and not eraese files that had
been created in the last N hours!!!!... (if not, in case of a reboot while
somebody was trying to get his/her mail.. that mail could be lost)
3.- via ssh or using webmin/others/command shell do:
locate popper.con
see if you have qpopper.conf (or even in.qpopper.conf ... very unusual)
if you do... congrats... add the line from indicated in 2. and then
restarat qpopper (or xinetd if qpopper is called from xinetd).
4.- if you don't have any file named qpopper.conf if in the shell (via
ssh) you can do:
cat > /etc/qpopper.conf (enter)
(add the line on 2.- and then enter)
(control + D)
or, from webmin... create /etc/qpopper from the file manager, or even
using webmin/other/command shell doing:
echo "(put the line described on 2.- with no parenthesis)" >/etc/qpopper.conf
(all in one line.. just in case my mail program "cuts" this line)
and then
5.- ad the switch
-f /etc/qpopper.conf
to the qpopper start up program (if started from xinetd.. very easy from
webmin... go to networking/Extended Internet Services and there selec
qpopper... and add the switch to the qpopper program where you see "server
program" ... and then restart xinetd
if qpopper is started as a stand alone server.. mmmm... you need either to
change the start up from webmin/system/bootup and shutdown.... or... if
you are shure that qpopper is not using any other switch... you can move
qpopper to something like real-qpopper and then create a simple shell
script for qpopper... something like
which qpopper (suposse it says: /usr/local/sbin/qpopper)
cd /usr/local/sbin
cp -a qpopper real-qpopper
diff qpopper real-qpopper (verify that exists and are the same)
echo "/usr/local/sbin/real-qpopper -f /etc/qpopper.conf" > qpopper
restart qpopper
That should do it!
good luck

Hi Alan,
Thanks, that is what I needed. In future, the module will add the inetOrgPerson object class if the option to enter a surname and first name is enabled..

Hi Neal, Webmin actually listens on two ports, which by default are port 10000 TCP and 10000 UDP. - Jamie |

Patch the qpopper source to put the temporary file somewhere else. Or use something else - I suggest Teapop (http://www.toontown.org/teapop/). I've been using it for quite some time for virtual hosting and I've been very happy with it. It supports a range of authentication methods, mailbox formats, and access methods (eg IP-based vs user@domain). I've also been happy with the POP3 daemon bundled with UW-IMAP, but it doesn't really support virtual domain usage of much of any kind very well. Doubling the quota would sort of work, but you'd have to have some sort of other check for over-quota on mail delivery as the filesystem quotas wouldn't kick in until 50M. :( -kgd |

Hi Dave,
That looks like a bug in Webmin.
Which module are you doing the password change in though? It seems that the
caller of unix_crypt is passing in the wrong parameters.

Indeed,
in my case the
$rv = eval crypt(\$pass, \$salt);
call is resulting in $rv being undef.
Thanks
Dave Isaacs
