Go to /etc/webmin, edit miniserv.conf, and you'll find a line saying logouttime=5, chance that to the number of minutes you want to have the system idle without logging you out. I'm not the expert here, but I think 30 minutes is a bit too long, security wise. I wouldn't have it set to more than 10 or probably 15 minutes at max. Hi Webmin developers and translators, Webmin 1.280 will be coming out soon, so I have created a 1.279 development pre-release for interested people to test before the official 1.280 version comes out. Translators should also take a look at this version to find any new strings that need conversion. You can get the 1.279 version from : http://download.webmin.com/devel/tarballs/webmin-1.279.tar.gz or http://download.webmin.com/devel/rpm/webmin-1.279-1.noarch.rpm The biggest changes in this new version are : - A new theme called 'Simple Blue' that uses much fewer images than the current 'MSC' theme (and may eventually become the default). - Code cleanups in modules that display tables to use a new API, and to support mass deletion where it was lacking. - Multiple hosts can be selected for each monitor in the System and Server Status module. - Support for tunneling connections to another server in the SSH/Telnet Login module. A full change log is available at : http://www.webmin.com/changes-1.279.html A pre-release 1.209 version of Usermin is also available, which fixes many bugs in the Read Mail module, improves search speed for Maildir mailboxes, adds auto-clearing of folders and generally cleans up the code. This is available from : http://download.webmin.com/devel/tarballs/usermin-1.209.tar.gz or http://download.webmin.com/devel/rpm/usermin-1.209-1.noarch.rpm - Jamie |

when comes about configuring postfix You can read howto for
debian sarge: http://workaround.org/articles/ispmail-sarge/
another thing is to set up MX entry (mail exchanger - part of the
DNS zone) to Your domain name provider to correctly send emails
into the Web.
I have set up my own personal server with web server and mail
server and for now it works fine!:)

Hello, I'm in the process of setting up a server and having a bit of trouble understanding this BIND thing and wondered if anyone would be able to help me out. I have changed the DNS settings for the URL to point to the server and that appears to have worked but I haven't configured the server to know that the URL belongs to it and I'm not sure what I need to do in the BIND DNS module of Webmin. (Dispite reading the documentation twice!) When I ordered the server, it came with the domain http://blahblahblah.easydservers.com and when I try to use sendmail or postfix, it defaults to sending from al...@bl... and not al...@my... The server is purely for internet (no local network) so I just need to know how to set up this new domain properly. Any advice welcome... Thanks in advance, Alex |

The closest you could get is editing /usr/libexec/webmin/fsdump/backup.pl and adding code to print information (like the hostname) as it progresses. Something like : print STDERR "hostname = ",&get_system_hostname(),"\n"; > Have you got my answer, that the system monitoring module also reports > "localhost" in the mailsubject? Yes .. that looks like the same cause. - Jamie |

Hi, Can some one tell me where this error comes from? "Failed to save cron job : An error was detected in the new Cron configuration :" This error comes for all users except root when I try to create, edit or save. I checked the cron.allow file but all users are there. The modules configuration also points to this file. It also happens on only one of our boxes.=20 All users cron jobs still run. I deleted the crontabs and tried to recreated them with the cron webmin module but the error still comes. Root can still be created, edited and saved with the module. This is on HP-UX. Which function is raising this exception? Regards, Bill |

I think that to debug this, I would need to login to your system myself .. that is the only way to see what is really happening. - Jamie |

Shouldn't the command have been chkconfig aaa on

Ok, that is very useful information. It seems that on SuSE linux, the chkconfig
command can and should be used to enable actions, even though the SuSEE format
form init scripts is slighly different to Redhat. I will make this change in
the next Webmin release.

Hi Grant, Usermin at the moment will not work on Windows - it depends on Unix services like /etc/passwd and PAM to get user accounts and password, which simply don't exist :( - Jamie |

Does your logfiles > show anything > similar? No such errors in there on mine, but thanks for pointing me to the error log location. I see: Failed to bind to "port#" : Address already in use at /usr/libexec/usermin/miniserv.pl line 338 I must have also missed that miniserv.pl was still running in my "ps aux" because this morning it was listed 5 times (once for every time I tried to restart it) After killing those processes I was able to start usermin again. The last entry in the error log before the failed to bind messages was that it was Restarting. Looking in the miniserv.log file I saw that a user was trying to change their theme at that same time. I'm guessing that is what crashed it, so I have removed the 'theme' option now. Everything is back operational now. Thanks for everyones assistance. -Mike |

I get it working. Anyway the bug seems to be very odd. Also here I get: Subject: Service monitor : Remote Ping down on localhost Body: Monitor on localhost for 'Remote Ping' has detected that the service has gone down at Thu Jun 8 16:13:01 2006 |

> Yes - you click on the Scheduled Monitoring button, which will bring > up a page for setting the monitoring schedule, target email address > and other options. Maybe I am to stupid, but the module is aweful. I have installed the webmin-bind module to monitor bind. I tried to add a monitoring of bind. Now I get a currupt page, and it complains, that I have not installed bind8. But I have already installed bind9! (see: http://img464.imageshack.us/img464/9471/screenshot5oi.png) I want to deinstall the monitoring module. Is there any other possibility to verify why webmin displays localhost for the "E-Mail subject" of my really interessting problem? Can I activate a debug in webmin to see what happens on mailing? |

I performed the following steps:
cd /etc/init.d
cp aaa bbb
vi bbb in order to modify occurrencies of aaa in bbb and other minor
issues:
sogeaste01:/etc/init.d # cat bbb
#!/bin/sh
### BEGIN INIT INFO
# Provides: bbb
# Required-Start: $network
# Required-Stop: $network
# Default-Start: 2 3 5
# Description: start dummy bbb
### END INIT INFO
case "$1" in
'start')
/bin/echo "contents of dummyfile made by bbb on start" >
/tmp/dummybbb
;;
'stop')
/bin/echo "contents of dummyfile made by bbb on stop" >
/tmp/dummybbb
;;
*)
echo "Usage: $0 { start | stop }"
;;
esac
exit 0
at this point:
dir /etc/init.d/rc3.d -rt
.....
lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root 6 Jun 7 09:25 S07aaa -> ../aaa
lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root 6 Jun 7 09:25 K15aaa -> ../aaa
sogeaste01:/etc/init.d # chkconfig --add bbb
bbb 0:off 1:off 2:on 3:on 4:off 5:on 6:off
sogeaste01:/etc/init.d # chkconfig add on
add: unknown service
(perhaps a mispelled command ??????)
at this point:
dir /etc/init.d/rc3.d -rt
....
lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root 6 Jun 7 09:25 S07aaa -> ../aaa
lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root 6 Jun 7 09:25 K15aaa -> ../aaa
drwxr-xr-x 11 root root 2536 Jun 8 15:31 ..
lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root 6 Jun 8 15:31 S07bbb -> ../bbb
lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root 6 Jun 8 15:31 K15bbb -> ../bbb
dir /etc/init.d -rt
...
drwxr-xr-x 57 root root 4944 Jun 7 09:27 ..
-rwxr-xr-x 1 root root 451 Jun 7 09:35 aaa
-rwxr-xr-x 1 root root 450 Jun 8 15:31 bbb
drwxr-xr-x 11 root root 2536 Jun 8 15:31 .
drwxr-xr-x 2 root root 1616 Jun 8 15:31 rc5.d
drwxr-xr-x 2 root root 1440 Jun 8 15:31 rc3.d
drwxr-xr-x 2 root root 992 Jun 8 15:31 rc2.d
-rw-r--r-- 1 root root 1619 Jun 8 15:31 .depend.stop
-rw-r--r-- 1 root root 1561 Jun 8 15:31 .depend.start
-rw-r--r-- 1 root root 1216 Jun 8 15:31 .depend.boot
so .depend files where actually modified; rc3 links appear relative not
absolute; S and K were created;
on reboot the /tmp/dummybbb file exists and is properly populated (contents
of dummyfile made by bbb on start)
So everything seems to be OK
Running around webmin, I tried to enter into module config (of bootup and
shutdown) and I saw:
Use chkconfig command to enable actions? 0
what does it mean ? perhaps chkconfig is not used to anable actions ?

Thanks for the debugging info ..
Actually, what I was really wondering is if the commands :
chkconfig --add aaa
chkconfig add on
when run as root from the command line creates the same symlinks and
.depend file entries as when you use YaST.

Hi all,
I have been using Webmin and Usermin in tandem for a number of years now
for all our hosting needs.
Thanks to Microsoft discontinuing support for FrontPage extensions, I am
forced into the position of having to setup an MS box as a server.
I have been using MS for many years on out home/office workstations, but
will undoubtably be lost on how to setup an MS server.
I noticed on the Webmin site, that right on the bottom, it states
Windows as a support OS.
Since I want to continue to use Webmin/Usermin, is there anyone out
there who would be willing to discuss their experiences
(Windows+USermin+Webmin) offline, and possibly tutor me a bit on how to
start the setup?
-Grant
