A number of log files are set to: rotate 7 compress postrotate service nginx restart /usr/lib/php/php7.2-fpm-reopenlogs endscript sharedscripts missingok daily delaycompress ifempty In the webmin interface, it's set to use previous permissions, yet when the rotation has completed, the new logs are owned by root.root, etc ... ? I've checked three times now and prior to rotation I've set the proper ownership. Ubuntu 18.04.LTS. -joho |

"Failed to create virtual server : The contact email address cannot be in the domain being created" But I'm not sure I entirely understand the reason for this check? E-mail is not enabled for the domain, MX points to a completely different server environment. -joho |

In Virtualmin I went to change the database password and got the following error message: Failed to change database passwords : SQL set password for '*********'@'127.0.0.1' = '**********' failed : Can't find any matching row in the user table Is this related to the issue with using MariaDB 10.4? |

I have been testing the setup so I have been creating virtual servers and then removing them, making changes to the set and then recreating the virtual servers. Each time I see this message: Setting up log file rotation .. .. Log file rotation failed! : .. the log file /var/log/virtualmin/domain.net_access_log is already being rotated at ../web-lib-funcs.pl line 1476. Shouldn't that be cleaned up when I delete the virtual server? |

OK, I found the problem. When changes were made to the nginx module config, it did not include the new sites-enabled in the nginx.conf file. Once I manually edited the file and included the following: include /etc/nginx/sites-enabled/*.conf; the virtual websites showed up in the module. I think all is good now and I can precede. Thanks again for all the help. OK, ignore the Nginx question as well as I found the answer here: https://www.virtualmin.com/node/39007 I have the config correctly but I am not seeing any symbolic links and no virtual websites listed. I will try deleting the virtual server, clean up stuff and make sure the config is correct and then try once more. OK, ignore the question about php-fpm pools, I didn't have php-fpm set as the processor, once I did that, the pool was created. Now to figure out the Nginx part because i am still seeing that no virtual websites are listed. What does: Directory for links to new virtual host files in the module config setting used for? OK, it appears to me that the virtualmin module for nginx works a bit different than the third party module that I downloaded for webmin. How should the module be configured for virtualmin because when logged in as the root user and going to nginx server there are no virtual sites listed. Does this nginx virtualmin module support the concept of sites-available and sites-enabled? Or does all virtual sites have to be under a single directory with no way to quickly disable them by removing the symbolic link? This new server will be the first time I have used Virtualmin with Nginx; before it has just been apache. Does the owner of the virtual server have the ability to directly edit the server block or are all settings done through the forms? The last question is how are php-fpm pools handled when creating the virtual server? I am not seeing additional pools being created. If they are, where are they located? |

Hi Kimberly, You could try applying this patch : https://github.com/virtualmin/virtualmin-gpl/commit/b414d655de88675fa2cb715ec81875df2ffaa537 Then restart Webmin, and re-try the domain creation. By the way, which Linux distribution and version are you running there? On 10/Aug/2019 09:56 Kimberly <kim...@gm...> wrote .. > I don't want to downgrade MariaDB version. I don't want to downgrade MariaDB version. As far as the virtual server is concerned, is there any problem with me creating the database manually logged in as the root user and assigning the virtual server user to the database setting proper permissions? I am guessing that if the virtual server is removed that the database will stay behind but that is OK. I am also guessing that the database will never show up in the virtual server panel. OK, I see where this is a bug in virtualmin; a fix is being worked on. Thanks guys for all your hard work on making webmin/virualmin the best server control panel out there. I really mean this, I have tried just about all of them and I keep staying with webmin/virualmin. It is also not creating the database for the virtual server; I have checked and double checked the server template. All looks good to me. I am setting up a new server and decided to also install Virtualmin as I have to let additional people on the server. When the new virtual server was created, I got the following error message: Creating MySQL login .. .. MySQL database failed! : mysql::execute_sql_logged failed : SQL insert into user (host, user, ssl_type, ssl_cipher, x509_issuer, x509_subject) values ('localhost', 'username', '', '', '', '') failed : The target table user of the INSERT is not insertable-into at ../web-lib-funcs.pl line 1476. What do I need to do to correct this? |

Hi, I've some login problems with Usermin on macOS, Webmin works fine however. I've succesfully installed Webmin 1.770 on macOS 10.13 (High Sierra) with macports.org perl5.28 and its required modules (Net::SSLEeay & Authen::PAM). Login works and for administering Postfix with dovecot (again from macports) works great. However, I installed Usermin but login seems impossible, Firefox or Safari take forever trying to login, when entering username & password. Checking /usr/usermin/miniserv.errors the PAM Authentication is enabled: #cat /usr/usermin/miniserv.errors [31/Jul/2019:12:04:03 +0200] miniserv.pl started [31/Jul/2019:12:04:03 +0200] Using MD5 module Digest::MD5 [31/Jul/2019:12:04:03 +0200] Using SHA512 module Crypt::SHA [31/Jul/2019:12:04:03 +0200] PAM authentication enabled For PAM-Authentication to work I needed to tweak /etc/pam.d/usermin to: auth required pam_opendirectory.so try_first_pass account required pam_nologin.so account required pam_opendirectory.so password required pam_opendirectory.so Note: We must use "pam_opendirectory.so" instead of the old "pam_securityserver.so" which is no longer used on recent macOS versions (check the ".so" modules /usr/lib/pam/), as described here in the outdated pam.d section for Mac OS X: http://www.webmin.com/udownload.html I've tried several other pam.d configs and also tried on Mac OS X 10.9.5 but with no success... Does somebody know what I'm doing wrong ? Any help is greatly appreciated. gilles |

On some instances, I've had a hell of a time getting traffic to forward between interfaces properly. I have eth0 bound to br0, bound to the drop from my colo I have eth1 bound to br1, bound to a backside network I create a kvm vm with a virtual eth0 bound to br0, and a virtual eth1 bound to br1. Everything seems to be working, but when I try to forward traffic between the interfaces, nothing works. Input and output packets work just fine. Iptables configuration the virtual machines is exactly the same as a physical machine where the network is working flawlessly. This only seems to happen when I create a VM from an iso and not when I create a VM from a cloudmin image. When I create a VM from an iso, the network configuration shows a radio button, 'manually entered addresses below...', which is what I need to select. The problem is, there's no entry fields below in which to enter those up addresses. If I instead choose to install from an image, those fields are there. I've tried in chrome, Firefox, Opera and tor. They all render the page the same Daniel Lynes Hammer Software O: 289.975.9000 x301 M: 905.517.6570 https://hammersoftware.ca/ |

I recently read where the certbot would automatically update an nginx server block to add in the ssl bits. Is this a part of webmin or Virtualmin? I am getting ready to wipe a server and do a reinstall of everything. I am debating if I need to go ahead and include Virtualmin as part of this redo. Currently I only use webmin. |

I just tried transferring a Virtualmin site from one server to another, something I've done many times in the past with a good level of success. I know what PHP-FPM support is sketchy, and I know Nginx support is sketchy. Both of these usually mean that you end up doing a lot of manual tweaking to get things working on the target server. In this transfer, no Nginx configuration was created (but I didn't expect that either since this is FROM an Apache system TO an Nginx system), and no PHP-FPM configuration was created. The transfer was done using SSH (public key). But I have never seen this error message before: Backing up to destination system .. .. backup done Validating backup .. .. all domains transferred successfully Restoring backup on destination system .. .. restore failed : Checking for missing features .. .. Make sure that all other existing port 443 virtualhost blocks are using * instead of an IP, and Virtualmin will use * for subsequent ones. Are any Webmin / Virtualmin macros like $DOM, etc. available in the "Additional PHP-FPM pool options" section of the Virtualmin Server Template? If not, that would be very useful. -joho |

It would be nice if the PHP-FPM pool filenames, optionally at least, could be named domain.com.conf instead of 156198869718963.conf. That would make it easier to edit them from the command-line. -joho |

Just got this, haven't seen it before: Creating MySQL login .. .. MySQL database failed! : mysql::execute_sql_logged failed : SQL alter user 'test2.domain.com'@'localhost' identified by 'l8m896ll370sdED' failed : You have an error in your SQL syntax; check the manual that corresponds to your MariaDB server version for the right syntax to use near 'user 'test2.domain.com'@'localhost' identified by 'l8m896ll370sdED'' at line 1 at ../web-lib-funcs.pl line 1476. Maybe I should entirely give up on getting this setup working with PHP-FPM, Nginx, and MariaDB ... :-) I'll try downgrading Virtualmin as suggested in this post: https://www.virtualmin.com/node/64694 -joho |
