Please see http://labs.libre-entreprise.org/projects/wbmtranslator/ for details. eMail-Adress for sending in translations to Webmin has changed. Please send in all stuff to tra...@we... in the future. 23.02.2004 If you are anoyed by these post you can filter this with procmail scanning for X-Webmin: monthly in the header. ###################################################################### TOC: 1. Adding New Languages to Webmin 2. Using wbmtranslator 3. Is there a way to use localization when developing a new theme? 4. Use a nice script for developing languages. 5. Samples 6. Special Hint ###################################################################### 1. Adding New Languages to Webmin New translations of the existing core Webmin modules are always welcome. If you want to translate Webmin into a new language or update one of the existing translations, follow these steps : Get the latest development version of Webmin so that you can see the latest translations that have been done by other people. In the file lang_list.txt in the Webmin root directory, add a new line for your language like : lang=sw,titles=1,charset=iso-6666-6 Swahili The "lang" part defines the short code for the language, and should follow the ISO standard where possible. The "titles" part controls whether Webmin should use letter images for displaying page titles in the language, and should be set to 1 if your language uses european characters. The optional "charset" part sets the character set that is sent to the web browser when using the language, so that is can automatically select the right font to use. Switch to your new language in the Webmin Configuration module under the Language icon. In the directory lang under the Webmin root and in each of the lang subdirectories under the module directories, create a new file called sw (or whatever the short code for your language is) that is a translation of the en file in the same directory. In each of the module.info files under the module directories, add a new desc_sw= line that is a translation of the desc= line. In each of the module directories, create a new file called config.info.sw which is a translation of config.info (if it exists). In the help subdirectory under each of the module directories (where they exist), translate all of the something.html files into something.sw.html. A table of currently translated languages is available so that you can see how much has been done for each language and module so far. There is also a list of other translators that you might want to contact before doing your own translation work. You don't have to finish translating the entire of Webmin for your translation to be useful. Many people just do a few modules at a time, or skip the help pages initially. When your translation has made some progress, send a .tar.gz file of all the translated files to Martin Mewes at we...@we... so that he can include it in the main Webmin distribution. The best way to tar up everything is with the command : tar czf /tmp/translation.tar.gz */lang/sw lang/sw */module.info */config.info.sw */help/*.sw.html ###################################################################### 2. Using wbmtranslator This is a module by Emmanuel Saracco which can be downloaded here: http://labs.libre-entreprise.org/projects/wbmtranslator/ It consists of an easy to use webinterface in order to update current translations or setup new languages. Last not least it enables you to officially send in translations to WTCO at tra...@we... ###################################################################### 3. Is there a way to use localization when developing a new theme? Yes (by Jamie Cameron) There is a way to do this - create a lang/ subdirectory under your theme with the usual en, de and other files. Then in your theme CGIs or .pl, use code like : %mytext = &load_language("my-theme-directory"); print "<b>$mytext{'something'}</b> <p>\n"; ###################################################################### 4. Use a nice script for developing languages. Christophe Chisogne developed a script which is available in a special Download-Area at www.webmin.com. http://www.webmin.com/wtco/char2ent.pl These and other stuff can be downloaded at http://www.mewes.tv/ As example: dodiff.sh An easy interface to diff between en-files and your language file. dolinks.sh As there are many symlinks between Webmin and Usermin on Jamies Computer I wrote this little script which does a symlink-detection for you. So it could be that if you develop for a Usermin- Module you enhance a Webmin-Module as well :-) This is the output from the help: perl char2ent.pl Usage: char2ent [--mode=html|work] [-b] [-c] 8bitfile.txt ... char2ent [--help] [--version] --mode=x, -m=x choose html mode (default) or work mode --backup, -b backup of modified file --confirm, -c confirm conversion of each file If you still need other Entities ... German http://www.ramsch.org/martin/uni/fmi-hp/iso8859-1.html Unicode http://www.theorem.ca/~mvcorks/code/charsets/auto.html ###################################################################### 5. Hi Webmin developers and translators, Webmin 1.150 will be coming out soon, so I have created a 1.149 development pre-release for interested people to test before the official 1.150 version comes out. Translators should also take a look at this version to find any new strings that need conversion. You can get the 1.149 version from : http://www.webmin.com/devel/tarballs/webmin-1.149.tar.gz or http://www.webmin.com/devel/rpm/webmin-1.149-1.noarch.rpm The biggest new features in this version are the BSD Firewall module for configuring IPFW, and the Frox FTP Proxy module. A full change log is available at : http://www.webmin.com/changes-1.149.html Usermin 1.080 will also be available soon, and so I have created a corresponding 1.079 pre-release for testing and translation. You can get it from : http://www.webmin.com/devel/tarballs/usermin-1.079.tar.gz or http://www.webmin.com/devel/rpm/usermin-1.079-1.noarch.rpm A full change log for this release is available at : http://www.webmin.com/uchanges-1.079.html - Jamie ------------------------------------------------------- This SF.net email is sponsored by: The SF.net Donation Program. No. web-lib isn't getting templating. I was just mentioning the new gui functions. But if you want templates, use your favorite template module. Just use the already existing Perl Modules module to install it if the user doesn't have it, rather than reinventing the wheel and doing something without the users knowledge. An example of this can be found in the LDAP module. be...@ge... wrote: > I'm not sure what your talking about with the web-lib thing, but I'm > accustom to writing html using templates. Hi all. I think I heard that some versions ago that there was a circular dependency between the webmin modules "mount" and "proc". Now I hit that situation... How do I install two modules at once? Maybe I'm just too tired ATM but I can't seem to find any way to install two or more interdependent modules via the edit_mods.cgi-interface? I noticed this in the process of stripping an installation down to the bare minimums, since the "proc" module is for some reason required for the upgrade-function to work. Could this also be avoided some way perhaps? [webmin/edit_upgrade.cgi:71] if ((!$mode || $mode eq "rpm") && &foreign_check("proc")) { //conny |

Thanks for the fix - I'm not sure why I didn't implement it this way in the first place! I have incorporated it into the main Webmin codebase, but with a small change to add backwards compatability so that existing host-based ACLs still work. - Jamie On Thu, 2004-05-13 at 07:16, Hernando Furlan wrote: > Hi Jamie, > > I was a problem when using "Webmin Servers Index" with many remote > servers with same IP address and diferent users ACLs. > > Default ACLs uses the IP addresses to Index Servers and to check users > permissions. Don't auto-download anything. Do what Jamie has done in the LDAP module, for example...Check for the module, and if it doesn't exist, allow the user to use the Perl Modules module to install it. You don't need to reinvent the wheel in this case. Jamie's already rolls quite nicely. I'll also mention that Jamie has started a simple set of GUI routines in web-lib. One can hope that they will soon provide simple calls for the most common GUI elements and you won't need to use separate modules, and theme designers can replace the functions on an as-needed basis to modify GUI elements. be...@ge... wrote: > I'm currently developing with HTML:Template, but I had to use CPAN to > download and install the module. Because Webmin module program are just CGI scripts, there is really no restriction on what tool you can use to generate the HTML they output. However, it is a good idea to always call the header and footer function, as these can be overridden by themes to produce a custom style. If your module was to produce the full HTML for a page from the <html> tag onwards itself without calling header, it would look out of place in a different theme .. - Jamie On Fri, 2004-05-21 at 08:05, be...@ge... wrote: > Is it ok if I make a module that uses a template engine? I come back for a problem that the last time had no response. I developed some modules with php that relayed on the php option -q that prevented the output of the header of php (already produced by web-lib functions). Now i see that php 4.3.4 does no longer have that option so that I can't stop it. I can't eather go with header, since it seems to clash with webmin. Can I have some more info on the requirements from webmin on that field? if I use the php "header" function to generate headers, webmin will hang with the browser saying "loading the page". This happens if on the 'Preferences' page, the 'Search for same subject or sender in' option is set to something other than 'Current folder', which is the default. At the moment, Usermin doesn't support deleting mail from multiple folders at once .. and the search results in your example came from multiple folders. - Jamie On Wed, 2004-05-12 at 18:33, Martin Mewes wrote: > Hi myself, > > "Martin Mewes" <mm...@me...> wrote: > > >12.05.2004 > [...] > >Usermin-Development-Version 1.075 released > > I have uploaded some screenshots to my server > > http://www.mewes.tv/mailbox/image0001.jpg > > Me selecting my name from the list in order to view the message > > http://www.mewes.tv/mailbox/image0002.jpg > > Me selecting "Same Sender" in order to search for messages from myself. > > http://www.mewes.tv/mailbox/image0003.jpg > > Me wondering why there is no possibility to do anything with this search but > to open a message. > > Iirc in the last stable you could delete all messages from here (which would > be very nice to have again). > > bis dahin - kind regards > > Martin Mewes |

Hi Jamie, I was a problem when using "Webmin Servers Index" with many remote servers with same IP address and diferent users ACLs. Default ACLs uses the IP addresses to Index Servers and to check users permissions. IE: You have "root" and "admin" users. You want to give access to 192.168.0.27 to root but not admin. You set ACLs to root and not admin but admin gains access because permissions are checked against the server IP address. I changed this to check by ID that found in servers index (I think it is a time perl function) and I solved this issue. Look the files yourself.
