*Hi, Tim:* Thank you Tim. That sounds a nice idea. Let's give a summary of this case: 1. When the script is running, detect the OS environment. If it's an Windows OS, then prompt the user to input the mysql/bin path. (Or we can add this to installation scripts and then store it in somewhere such as config.php when users install the their system?) 2. We use sys_get_temp_dir to store the backup file. Then show a link to let the admin to download the scripts. And prompt a choice for the user if it should be mailed to other destination. 3. remove the backup data in server. I'm not sure if there are other concerns about the security and the processes from management view point. Beside installation and ugrade, we'll also arrange a cron for this function as Phil mentioned in another thread. Any idea is highly appreciated! Thanks and best regards! Yes nice idea :-) Maybe we have a cross table that links scripts with users to email - to determine who should get which reports. Maybe also a schedule of when the report should be run and add this into the session.inc check on first run of the day to produce reports and fire off. Sales analysis reports would be nice to automate this way too. Need some way to default/enter parameters though to get useful reports. *Hi, Phil:* Thank you for your comments. I believe an extra table should be created at least hold the basic information: 1. PDFfilename or mailing name or scripts which created those mails or files. 2. mailing lists If we merge those information into www_users table, then one filed is necessary to hold the No. 1 information. Everytime, there is a new scritps created, we must modify all of these related users information. Is it a good practice in business? If we setup a new scripts for this configuration, it can be assigned to those who created those files to decide where those files go. It'll be flexible even we can add this feature to report writer. And sometime the user can mail it to himself for filing purpose. Which one is better? Maybe we just need more imagination to consider again where the mail should be used. Thanks and best regards! Yes that's a good idea... we could use the www_users table and allow a multi-select box for those users with valid email addresses completed. Maybe this might be common functionality across a number of reports? *Hi, Phil:* After search some smtp server lists, I select two types: one is like smtp.gmail.com, the other is like smtp.mail.yahoo.com.hk to handle. There seems no RFC to define the server name. I noticed that you modified the functions with IsEmailAddress, which is more reasonable. Thank you very much. And during rework the function, I notice another error that I did not call the strpos correctly. If more idea about this, please let me know! Thanks and best regards! *Hi, Tim:* Thank you for your good idea about this. It sounds a security method to store the backup data. My question is that shall we add another configuration choice for users who use Win OS? Since if we don't specify the mysql/bin/ path in absolute way, exec( mysqldump) will not work, only produce a empty file in win OS. I'm wondering if we should provide this feature for win Os users. Hi Exson, In your nice function to send by smtp I notice you are testing to see if the user name is an email address and if not you are appending the smtp domain to the user name assuming that it is the first part of an email address. I am not sure this would always be the case. I am not sure what other assumptions you could make to get a sensible from address though. Do you not need also to have an "@" in it?? -- Phil Phil Daintree Logic Works Ltd - +64 (0)275 567890 http://www.logicworks.co.nz skype:daintree |

I think I had this so the script had to have the receipients defined... not sure it is always the factory manager who needs this - as it is an indication of the level of acceptable customer service and senior management are interested in this. We don't have a mail defined in the config settings for this. There are other issues with this too as many hosts don't allow exec commands in the php.ini - but normally you can over-ride with a php.ini in the web-directory. There is no really generic way to do this I don't think - there is also the potential snag for someone to leave a backup where it can be downloaded by anyone with all the passwords etc in and all the financial details of the business in - so a bit of a hairy one and needs discipline to delete the backup after use. In some respects I am keen to avoid providing this script. It is a convenience if it is there but needs great care.
