Can somebody send me a full listing of the Server to Server commands with it's params ? If possible, TS especification too. That's to develop a special node that has to connect to an Unreal 3.0. the DNS doesn't have a clue where the person is requesting it from... it most cases, the DNS server is answering the request for the clients DNS server. (Becuase the client isn't configured to resolve of your DNS, they are configured to resolve of their ISP's DNS) The way this "RoundRobin" works is first request, gets the first record, second request gets the second record and so on.. when it reaches the bottom of the list, it just starts again. There is only one DNS server I know off, where you can say if the request comes from this subnet, answer with this IP address and so on... but I really don't feel like setting up every damn subnet on the internet, figuring out which server is closest to them and doing it for the whole damn internet!!! -----Original Message----- From: David Flynn <Da...@ke...> To: unr...@li... <unr...@li...> Date: Thursday, July 06, 2000 7:37 AM Subject: Re: [Unreal-users] some help needed... >Just to correct CM, > >It will work ... what CM surgested is the "less to type but more unreadable >way of doing it ..." you could take it right down to > >irc IN A 127.0.0.1 > IN A 127.0.0.2 > >And so on ... as the mydomain.com is in the IN SOA record ! > >the DNS server selects the address according to what is closer to the person >doin the resolving > >Dave > >--------------------------------------- >The information in this e-mail and any files sent with it is confidential to >the ordinary user of the e-mail address to which it was addressed and may >also be legally privileged. Just to correct CM, It will work ... what CM surgested is the "less to type but more unreadable way of doing it ..." you could take it right down to irc IN A 127.0.0.1 IN A 127.0.0.2 And so on ... as the mydomain.com is in the IN SOA record ! the DNS server selects the address according to what is closer to the person doin the resolving Dave --------------------------------------- The information in this e-mail and any files sent with it is confidential to the ordinary user of the e-mail address to which it was addressed and may also be legally privileged. It is not to be relied upon by any person other than the addressee except with the sender's prior written approval. If no such approval is given, the sender will not accept liability (in negligence or otherwise) arising from any third party acting, or refraining from acting, on such information. If you are not the intended recipient of this e-mail you may not copy, forward, disclose or otherwise use it or any part of it in any form whatsoever. Umm that most likely won't work, newer versions of BIND do not allow you to include the domain in the second A record, ex you would do: irc.yourdomain.com. Granted you manage your own DNS, add a line to your zone file such as: irc.yourdomain.com. IN A 127.0.0.1 irc.yourdomain.com. IN A 206.183.28.12 Multiple entries create the 'random' Adam. Thanks for those who helped. Much appreciated. I have another question now for you.. hehe... do you setup the random IRC server thing in the same way? I chose a service that only lets me bind a single hostname to one IP so I cant let a user logon with irc.ourdomain.net and get a random server that way. Any tips for doing this? I've looked around a bit and cannot find this information anywhere. Thanks again. You people are great. :) Amo. ------Original Message------ From: "Stormdancing" <da...@st...> To: unr...@li... Hi, I want to create some hostnames for servers linking to my network. How can I do this? I see a lot of other small networks doing it. I'm wondering if I have to mail my provider to create them and then pay a fee for each hostname they create and bind to another IP. Can someone please advise here? I also know other networks can create their own hostnames within minutes. I presume this requires something special from the shell provider and not anything you can install in your IRCD account. Could anyone recommend a good shell provider that can do the above if my current provider wont. I really appreciate any advice you can give. Thanks in advance Amo. ----------------------------------------------- FREE! The World's Best Email Address @email.com Reserve your name now at http://www.email.com |

This does not sound like it is IRCD related. It sounds like something router related or something like that. Check with your shell provider. It all depends on what services you get. Some have a channel u can set that will msg that channel everytime some registers a nickname/channel, identifys to a nickname/channel, and just about anything else. If so, you might need the +x Host-mangling patch for IRC Services which I hacked together, if you intend to use this feature on your network. I should really stick this on a website somewhere, so it's easier to send people and give out the instructions. The reason why it's needed is that Unreal communicates with servers using unmangled hostnames only, but most users will only see the mangled versions (this includes channel operators). As a result, AKICKs and UNBANs can behave very strangely (ie. not work in many cases). My patch causes Services to mangle the hostmask using the same algorithm as Unreal, and compare both the original and the mangled hostmasks of the target user against the mask in question wherever it performed a simple lookup before. If Daylight is simply another name for "IRC Services 4.3.3", then my patch should apply directly - just ask me for it. If it's slightly different, it might still work in the same way. If it's something else completely (a fork in the tree, for example) then a different patch will need to be worked out, or you could simply use the standard IRC Services instead. I always get confused about names of things, so someone please enlighten me! =) BTW, the last option (22) is the correct one, as already pointed out by two other people. I believe someone on the IRC Services bunch is working on full Unreal support, using my patch as a starting point - perhaps Unreal will appear on that Makefile list when that work is complete. -------------------------------------------------------------- from: Jonathan "Chromatix" Morton mail: ch...@cy...
