Indeed! Wow, I didn't realize it got so huge! Have we ran pngcrush on the collection of PNGs recently? ;) > For stamps installer testing, I was thinking of making a cut-down > version, One thing I'm considering for this upcoming release is to parcel the stamps out into separate packages, based on category. Fortunately, I have next Friday off (Veterans Day in the US), and though we have a friend visiting, she's really in town for a conference, so I should have plenty of time to hammer at the Stamps collection in CVS. Thanks John! Still waiting for other responses... ;) -bill! |

As you all should know by now, I'd like to release Tux Paint 0.9.15 later this month. I'd like to have as many pre-compiled builds available as possible, and was wondering what everyone's status is: John P. - you've been active on the list lately, so I'm guessing you're all set. Are there any Win32 showstoppers that would keep me from releasing right now? Marcin - are you still around? Can you build the current CVS on BeOS? Once the .tar.gz source is out, can you do an official BeOS release for us? Martin F., Max H. and/or Darrell W. - are any of you still out here? Can you tell me whether you can make an OS X build this month? Thomas K. - Can you do a NetBSD build? Any issues? Alejandro P. - Ditto for FreeBSD. :^) Thanks! -- -bill! bi...@ne... http://www.newbreedsoftware.com/ |

With the arrival of Albanian, Estonian, Gaelic, Galician, Gronings, Kinyarwanda, Mexican Spanish, Swahili, Thai, and Urkanian translators to the project, the latest release has been localized to over 55 languages. Tux Paint 0.9.15 introduces new "Magic" drawing tools, including a smudge tool, brushes that draw grass and bricks, and a brush that turns realistic images into cartoons. Tux Paint 0.9.15 also offers a number of improvements on previous versions, including updates to the "Text" and "Stamp" tool interfaces, improvements to the color palette, and support for a wider range of display sizes -- from 640x480 to 1600x1200. Additionally, the font and stamp loading routines have been streamlined, greatly reducing both startup time and memory usage. It seems Windows, BeOS and now Linux (via "altprintcommand" and, e.g., kprint) have a kind of "Page Setup" for printing, but checking the source code, it looks like Mac still does not. Anyone want to look into this before 0.9.15 comes out? (Uh... are there even any Mac OS X folks still lurking here!? :^) ) Thanks! -bill! ----- Forwarded message from David Sivell <ds...@ya...> ----- Date: Mon, 24 Oct 2005 18:58:57 -0700 (PDT) From: David Sivell <ds...@ya...> Subject: Re: [Tuxpaint-users] Last-minute wish list? To: tux...@li... Reply-To: tux...@li... Hi Bill We use Tux Paint with Kindergarten to Yr6 students (Mac OSX) - our biggest need is to be able to print the whole picture. When we run it full screen at 800x600 we haven't been able to set the page setup/landscape so that all the pic prints. So Bill/Santa my wish is for a more readily available page setup. It's fixed in CVS (to be 0.9.15). IIRC, though, you can send a command-line option to make it ignore the lock file (--nolockfile). I'm PRETTY sure that was available in 0.9.14. > I checked that the environment variable trick works on XP Pro using the > 'testvidinfo' program, which is part of the SDL source distribution, Nice, thanks! :) -bill! Open up a command prompt, change to the directory where Tux Paint is installed (e.g. cd "c:\Program Files\TuxPaint") Use the 'set' command to set the environment variable like this: set SDL_VIDEODRIVER=windib the default is directx in place of windib. Check that it has taken like this: set you should see something like: ... PROMPT=$P$G SDL_VIDEODRIVER=windib SESSIONNAME=Console SystemDrive=C: ... Now run Tux Paint by typing: tuxpaint You could try with the sound disabled: tuxpaint --nosound Be careful though. This version of Tux Paint has an annoying bug that forces you to wait 30s between runs. It returns without running, leaving a text file 'stdout.txt' containing: You're already running a copy of Tux Paint! even when you aren't(!) starters/skyline-sf-dusk-back.jpeg has the execute bit set. I vaguely recall it's difficult to change this in cvs (i.e. you can't just chmod a-x and commit) ... and yes, if I do that, it's a NOOP. And if I touch the file and commit, then remove the file and re-update, the execute bit is still set. So ... how do we fix this? Shouldn't that be .jpg anyway, or is .jpeg fine? Ben |

Once again, though, my problem was this: 1. Add a translation to a .txt file 2. Run these scripts 3. The translation disappears from the .txt file (I guess that's ok if it's fuzzy) 4. The translation does NOT appear in the corresponding updated .po file In the "0_sun.txt" example that I gave, the French translation disappears and got turned into one of the Moon translations. Maybe it is my system, but I'm running whatever python, gettext and other i18n stuff that's the latest in Debian Testing ('etch'). I can provide version #s tonight when I get back home. --=20 -bill! bi...@ne... http://www.newbreedsoftware.com/ |

Ah, for the moment, I've simply hacked it by doing this: mv tuxpaint tuxpaint-0.9.15 But yeah, it would be good if there were a target that duplicated the source tree into a versioned directory. Maybe using that 'find' to copy only the files we want, and then a simple 'tar' to roll it together. -bill! |

By the way, I don't really like this business of making things outside of the current tree. The way I have most often see other packages handle this is to create a directory called "build" which is populated with the build target directories, something like: Index: Makefile =================================================================== RCS file: /cvsroot/tuxpaint/tuxpaint/Makefile,v retrieving revision 1.79 diff -r1.79 Makefile 125c125,141 < release: --- > releaseclean: > @echo > @echo "Cleaning release directory" > @echo > @rm -rf build/tuxpaint-$(VER_VERSION) > > releasedir: releaseclean > @echo > @echo "Creating release directory" > @echo > @mkdir -p build/tuxpaint-$(VER_VERSION) > @find . -follow \ > \( -wholename '*/CVS' -o -name .cvsignore -o -name 'build' \) \ > -prune -o -type f -exec cp --parents -vdp \{\} build/tuxpaint-$(VER_VERSION)/ \; > > > release: build/tuxpaint-$(VER_VERSION) 128,135c144,147 < @ < @make clean < -@rm -f ../tuxpaint-$(VER_VERSION).tar < @cd .. ; \ < find tuxpaint-$(VER_VERSION) -follow \ < \( -wholename '*/CVS' -o -name .cvsignore \) \ < -prune -o -type f -print0 | \ < xargs -0 tar -czvf tuxpaint-$(VER_VERSION).tar.gz --- > @echo > -@rm -f build/tuxpaint-$(VER_VERSION).tar.gz > @cd build ; \ > tar -czvf tuxpaint-$(VER_VERSION).tar.gz tuxpaint-$(VER_VERSION) Nothing cleans "build" here because there might be a build from a prior version still kicking around. Maybe we need a reallyclean target that nukes absolutely everything, including all build dir contents. Ben |
