It could be in xorg.conf like mice and keyboards and wacoms are. Google found no-one playing with this thing, all the hits were mirrors of this email list.. Mattell's tech support stuff was dire. There is a link off one of those pages to the guide to the wacom driver. It seems that there is a specific wacom protocol or two. Maybe a wacom driver hacker could point us in the right direction? We know a driver is attaching to it, we just don't know any more.. I also saw that under windows the tablet stops the keyboard and mouse being used. Maybe a good first step would be to see if we can get tuxpaint for windows to work with the tablet's driver, without loading the tablet's software instead. Alas that would involve having to use windows.. Caroline |

If anyone'd like to help me on my way to getting this thing recognized and working under Ubuntu Gusty (Linux 2.6.22 kernel), please feel free to respond here! :) Anyone else get ahold of one of these devices yet? -- -bill! bi...@ne... http://www.newbreedsoftware.com/ |

I've definitely still seen it crash when trying to use system-wide fonts, unfortunately. > I do get segfault with the sparkles magic tool, though. The Sparkles tool has been removed; perhaps you need to do an uninstall and reinstall? The old sparkles were replaced with a brush that does pretty much the same thing (sans sound effects). A new tool was written that I ended up naming "Light." > And neither sparkles nor distortion is translatable. As in, not gettext()ed? Or as in, you don't know what I mean by the word? The effect is vaguely based on the invisibility effect of the Predator from the Predator movies, honestly. :) But more realistically, you can think of it as the effect hot air has when you look through it (like heat coming off the back of a jet engine). It's a chicken-and-egg thing. If translators can more easily get to the PO files, see them in action, etc., they seem more likely to translate. ;) I haven't really feature-froze, yet... I did want to get a slightly wider audience to try out some of the new features, since I hadn't been touching the code for a while. I'd like to get a release out BEFORE December, since Tux Paint will be featured in an article in a major magazine in their January 2008 issue! :) (Which means it'll probably be mailed, and/or hit newsstands in December some time.) There's a slight bug in Tux Paint 0.9.17 where it's missing the printer configuration file. You can create one by holding [Alt] as you click 'Print', to bring up a printer configuration dialog. After that, it should work (without needing to hold [Alt] to get the dialog every time). This, and a few other minor issues in the latest version of Tux Paint, is mentioned on the Known Issues page: http://www.tuxpaint.org/docs/known_issues/ Good luck! -bill! |

We're experiencing some problems regarding printing from TuxPaint using Windows Vista. What exactly the problem is, I don't know, but pushing print in TuxPaint doesn't result in any paper coming out of the printer. It seems like the print job never leaves TuxPaint, at least it doesn't show up in the que. I've rolled a tarball of Tux Paint in CVS, calling it 0.9.18rc1 (release candidate #1 of the next version: 0.9.18). You can grab the source tarball directly from here: ftp://ftp.tuxpaint.org/unix/x/tuxpaint/testbuilds/source/tuxpaint-0.9.18rc1.tar.gz It weighs in at around 7.6MB. Please check it out and let me know if you have any issues. John Popplewell and Martin Fuhrer have been looking at what's in CVS, preparing to make Windows and Mac OS X builds, respectively. Once any changes they need are in CVS, and any other issues are ironed out, 0.9.18 can be officially released. In the meantime, there may be more "rc" source tarballs, and hopefully some "rc" binary builds for Win32 and OSX. Thanks and good luck! -- -bill! bi...@ne... http://www.newbreedsoftware.com/ |

The Tux Paint project hopes to participate in the upcoming
Free/Libre/Open Source Software ('FLOSS') Usability Sprint
at Google Inc's campus in Mountain View, California.
It takes place Friday November 2nd through Sunday, November 4th.
http://www.flossusability.org/
To summarize the event (from their website):
"Our strategy for improving the usability of FLOSS is to attack the
entire system, not just individual projects within the system.
In particular, we want to bring the already established, but siloed
usability and open source communities together and catalyze
collaboration between them."
I'm interested in having the Tux Paint project attend with the hopes
that the usability experts attending can help us improve the usability
of our documentation and website. (Working on the app itself is less
important to me, since I personally feel it needs less work on the
usability front. I won't discourage interested parties from looking at it,
though! :^) )
If you'd like to help, and are available to attend the Sprint any part
of Nov. 2nd thru 4th, please contact me directly:

Thanks!

It doesn't seem to allow commercial distribution of the unmodified sound. http://creativecommons.org/licenses/sampling+/1.0/legalcode The small print has the following in it: # Re-creativity permitted. You may create and reproduce Derivative Works, provided that: 1. the Derivative Work(s) constitute a good-faith partial or recombined usage employing "sampling," "collage," "mash-up," or other comparable artistic technique, whether now known or hereafter devised, that is highly transformative of the original, as appropriate to the medium, genre, and market niche; and 2. Your Derivative Work(s) must only make a partial use of the original Work, or if You choose to use the original Work as a whole, You must either use the Work as an insubstantial portion of Your Derivative Work(s) or transform it into something substantially different from the original Work. In the case of a musical Work and/or audio recording, the mere synchronization ("synching") of the Work with a moving image shall not be considered a transformation of the Work into something substantially different. They are released under Creative Commons Sampling + 1.0. That's not one of the normal CC licenses and I'll need to check re: compliance with the GPL. http://creativecommons.org/licenses/sampling+/1.0/ This is the problme with "creative commons licensed" - it can be anything from CC-BY (just attribution) to the totally non free CC-NC-ND (non commercial and no derivative works0.
