I'm not really an expert on .desktop files, but I think this is a neat idea. I use KDE on Kubuntu 8.04, so I have Dolphin and Konqueror. (I guess we'd want 'servicemenu' entries for those tools.) Anyone out here know much about this? And is there any similar way of registering applications like this on Windows and Mac OS X? -bill! Oops - I sent this too soon, as I'm still downloading the stamps files from John. If you get a 'permission denied' trying to download them, then try again later, I haven't finished downloading them yet (or at least haven't had time to make them accessible). Sigh. :) Too big of a hurry, sorry. -bill! |

John Popplewell has put together builds of what will soon become Tux Paint 0.9.20, for people to beta-test. This includes a new, separate release for older versions of Windows (95/98/ME), which has slightly reduced functionality than the release for newer versions of Windows (XP/2000/Vista). (In other words, a few of the new features -- such as vector-graphics-based Stamps support -- are disabled.) This is, of course, better than not supporting older versions of Windows at all! :^) You can download the builds from here: ftp://ftp.tuxpaint.org/unix/x/tuxpaint/testbuilds/win32/ If you're running Windows, and have time to test this out, please do, and let us know if you run across any problems. The changes (so far) since 0.9.19 are listed here: http://tuxpaint.cvs.sourceforge.net/*checkout*/tuxpaint/tuxpaint/docs/CHANGES.txt?revision=1.557 (It's everything listed below "2008.June.17 (0.9.20)" and above "2008.February.25 (0.9.19)", of course.) The files are: * tuxpaint-0.9.20cvs-2008-06-17-win32-installer.exe Installer for newer Windows (XP, 2000, Vista) * tuxpaint-0.9.20cvs-2008-06-17-win32.zip ZIP version for newer Windows (XP, 2000, Vista) * tuxpaint-0.9.20cvs-2008-06-17-win9x-installer.exe Installer for older Windows (95, 98, ME) * tuxpaint-0.9.20cvs-2008-06-17-win9x.zip ZIP version for older Windows (95, 98, ME) * tuxpaint-stamps-2008.06.17-win32-installer.exe Stamps Collection - installer for all Windows * tuxpaint-stamps-2008.06.17-win32.zip Stamps Collection - ZIP version for all Windows You'll want just two files. Choose whether you want Installer or ZIP versions of Tux Paint. Then download the appropriate Tux Paint for your version of Windows ('win9x' for old, 'win32' for new), and download Tux Paint Stamps. Once we make an official release, new Windows builds will be released, and will be available from the website, as per usual! Enjoy, -- -bill! At the very least, it would mean that our .orig.tar.gz would not match upstream's, which means the users won't really know what it is we're distributing without tearing it apart and checking for themselvves. So if we could work towards a maintenance release later this week, I'll put the revised copyright file aggregating all the font copyrights by the ftpmasters to ensure we won't end up with another rejection.
