It's up on SourceForge (and my FTP site); go get 'em! :) Thanks for all the patches and tweaks and testing, everyone! Send builds to me privately and I'll post them when I get time. Once I get a minimum of Mac + Win builds, and an edited press release, I'll announce it to the world. -- -bill! "Tux Paint" - free children's drawing software for Windows / Mac OS X / Linux! Hey everybody, My names Andrew Corcoran and I'm a recently graduated Computer Engineer currently based in Ireland. For the GSOC I'm working with Caroline Ford (secretlondon) on creating new magic tools for tuxpaint. So far I've created Convert to greyscale Convert to binary (only two colours, pure black and pure white) Silhouette tool - A sobel edge map Trace Contour - Similar to the same name plugin in photoshop, trace the edges of the image in colour Blur All - A full image gaussian blur Snowball - Adds snowballs to the image Snowflake - Adds snowflakes to the image Sharpen - enhance the edges of the image to make it "pop" more I'm also in the process of working on several ideas, namely a tool to add random noise to the image, a mosaic tool, a jigsaw tool and a clustering tool that will segment the image into only a small number of colours. If anyone has any comments, or suggestions for new tools that they would like to see implemented Id love to hear them. Regards, Andrew |

A beta version of what will become Tux Paint 0.9.20 is now also available for Mac OS X. If you have an Mac [1] and can test it out, that would be greatly appreciated! You can find the DMG file here: ftp://ftp.tuxpaint.org/unix/x/tuxpaint/testbuilds/macosx/ If you're running Windows [2] and haven't tested out the beta that was posted earlier, please do so! Now is the time for us to find bugs! :^) ftp://ftp.tuxpaint.org/unix/x/tuxpaint/testbuilds/win32/ Thanks!!! [1] It should work on both older (PowerPC) and newer (Intel) Macs, running OS X 10.3.9 or later. [2] Two versions are available, one for older Windows (95/98/ME) and one for newer Windows (XP/2000/Vista) -- -bill! "Tux Paint" - free children's drawing software for Windows / Mac OS X / Linux! I think FreeType and/or SDL_ttf has some issues with certain fonts. You can do something like:
strace -s 9999 -o strace.txt tuxpaint
Then after it crashes, we can examine the 'strace.txt' output file.
For GDB debugging, you could do something like this:
$ make clean
$ make DEBUG_FLAGS=-g
$ gdb tuxpaint
(gdb) run
Then, when it crashes, you can try doing "bt" to display a backtrace
(display the program stack), and we can begin tracking down where it crashed.
Thx!

Please remind me how to do that. The only output on the console is the error
message 'Minnesegmentsfeil' ('segmentation fault').
Also, it looks like it only crashes in window mode. In fullscreen mode, Tux
Paint instead freezes when searching for fonts. Very strange.

Which strings in Korean? (Right now, the PO is only at 76.88% complete, and I don't want to try and look for strings that are coming up in English in Tux Paint, and then try to tell whether they're even in the PO file. ;^) ) In any case, the issues I've heard about seem solved: * nopango-related issue (on older RedHat); corrected by using gettext_noop() * Untranslated strings in Trad. Chinese, turned out to be due to conflicting MO file from Ubuntu, which turned out to be due to recent Makefile simplifications not taking into account the fact that I named my POs badly. WHEW. :) Can I make a release, yet? :D -- -bill! "Tux Paint" - free children's drawing software for Windows / Mac OS X / Linux! Download it today! http://www.tuxpaint.org/ |

My task during this Summer of Code was to create new "Magic tools" for TuxPaint using provided API. I started working 1st June but meanwhile I had two weeks off (exams session). After this monday my scholar year ends and I'll have much, much more time to work on this project. The hardest period is over. Uff :) Finally, I have still two weeks to everything what I have in my plans. My goal for this SoC was to create at least 15 plugins. First ideas were here http://temp.chrzanowski.info/tools.htm I've added some more: -Crayon - crayon-like brush -Fold - turn the selected corner of the page over -Stairs - (looks good on dark background) -Snow - draws some snowflakes All the plug-ins above are implemented already. Other ideas (sent by my friends/other users I cooperate with) aren't accepted yet (I am not sure about ). I dedided to not to implement Lissajous tool and Spectrum tool. TP API in TuxPaint 0.9.19 isn't flexible enough to let the user good control over Lissajous curves. On the other hand, Spectrum tool isn't has less usability than I previously though. Easy to implement filter/image modifiers/plug-ins were implemented first. Just for easiness, to get some speed. Today I am using 0.9.19 version. After upgrade to newest cvs version, this tuesday, all my sources will be compilant with newest TuxPaint release and right then I will note you where you can the sources download from. Expcept of mentioned plugins, Confetti is also ready. In opposite to the plugins ideas desctription website , there will be no possiblity of drawing rectangular confetti. It looks strange (visual aspects) Next 3 plug-ins are under development, they will be a little more sophisticated. I will let you know when they'll be ready. I'm sure you will be satisfied with plugins I'm creating Best, Adam 'foo-script' Rakowski |

I do not get a crash (CVS as of Fri Jun 27 00:36:00 UTC 2008
running on Ubuntu 8.04 with libsdl-pango1 v. 0.1.2-3,
libpango1.0-0 v. 1.20.1-1.
I notice a lot fewer fonts appear available, no doubt due to
font tweaking based on content in the PO file (e.g., 'translation' of
'qx', 'QX', 'qy', 'oO', etc.)
These don't appear to be set in zh_tw.po or zh_cn.po.
(The former seems to incorrectly(?) repeat the msgids,
the latter simply leaves the msgstrs blank (""))
Can you post more debugging info? (stack trace, etc.)
Thx!

Shin-Ichi sent this to me, since he's having difficulty posting to the lists again. :^( I'm using Ubuntu 8.04 which has gettext 0.17. Could there be an issue with this with regards to generating MO files? I've tested with the command-line 'gettext' command and seem to be getting the same results... $ LANGUAGE=zh_TW gettext -d tuxpaint Black\! returns some binary-looking stuff that's probably the UTF-8 for the Traditional Chinese translation of "Black!" However, $ LANGUAGE=zh_TW gettext -d tuxpaint "Yes, I'm done"\! returns: Yes, I'm done! Is there any way I can debug this further? :^/ -bill! ----- Forwarded message from sh...@wm... ----- Hi! I remember that I met the very similar problem a long time ago... In that case, ONLY the the string "If you quit, you'll lose your picture! Save it?" wasn't translated to Japanese, ONLY ON Fedora Core 1. The strange thing was, package which compiled on Fedora Core 2 had no problem even on Fedora Core 1. I thought that there might be some cases when gettext doesn't make correct .mo files from .po files. Just for your information. -- shin1 On Sun Jun 22 02:20:48 JST 2008 Bill Kendrick <nb...@so...> wrote: > > Hey there. Hey there. I was just checking out Tux Paint in the zh_TW locale (Chinese Traditional) and noticed that, although the zh_tw.po file appears to be 100% complete, some strings are not translating. For example, the Yes/No button labels that appear in the "Quit?" prompt. I confirmed that there were, in fact, "msgstr" and that the "msgid" for the strings matched what's in tuxpaint.pot. So... I'm confused. :^/ Does anyone know what might be up? -- -bill! "Tux Paint" - free children's drawing software for Windows / Mac OS X / Linux! Download it today! http://www.tuxpaint.org/ |

As I mentioned, I build on 2K (multi-boot machine with disk caddies) as it gives me a clean, light-weight Windows installation. Distributing binaries to large numbers of people makes me nervous for obvious reasons. Perhaps I should look at a cross-compilation environment using MinGW/MSYS on Linux, then I'd only need Windows boxes for testing, cheers, John. > 2008/6/20 John Popplewell <jo...@jo...>: > > > Hi, > > > > I've checked-in a change that should fix this.
