We would need to be able to add compensation in hours, not only half days. Furthermore Austrian law requires to document the time of starting and ending work. We do exactly what you've suggested, and just this week HR asked for this kind of report, now, because we have all kinds of "time off" tasks within all kinds of projects, I have a lot of work to do to give them this kind of report, and this report will be brittle: changes to projects could easily cause this new report to be wrong on the numbers. After this I created a report that give me total of holidays for the year. Why not use such idea with a fixed id for internal company and absences project and ask the user to change this (the name of the company) when starting for the first time tsheetx? It will allow a quick removal of this data from all reports and have this data to create this reports without hassle. The only problem would be actual installations but with some SQL magic it's possible to do it. I created many reports for our job needs but now I must test if they are compatible with the actual code (It was for the 1.21 version,... Before tsheetx) So, after letting that simmer on my brain for a while, I think I've had a good idea. In an attempt to make the system flexible without hanging lots of extra baggage on it, I've added a column to the task table that indicates what "type" of task it happens to be. By default all tasks are "work" tasks, the other two labels I've allowed are "Paid time off" and "unpaid time off". And I've added drop down selectors when editing/creating a task, and displayed that info on the task info and task maintenance areas. My intention is to be able to provide HR a summarized report of how much time people worked, their "paid time off" time and their "unpaid time off" time for any given pay period. So, is this functionality something that others are interested in? In other words, should I check this code into the SVN repository? -Scott |

I believe the timesheet system should be a flexible tool that doesn't "get in the way" when people use it. Therefore, attempting to create rules around whether tasks can have time entered against them or not, doesn't seem to be a good idea. Allowing hierarchical tasks is an attempt to map more closely with an assumed use of some sort of project flow to help developers and managers make sense of how a project might be going. I think this would make a good addition to the timesheet system. As long as everyone agrees there will be tradeoffs and compromises, like being able to enter time against non-terminal nodes. Is there any great reason to not add entries against a non terminal node? Yes in a classic Gantt chart that's not the right thing to do but it simply means that billing something to a non terminal node is just an 'other' task. It would also mean that a task could be created, have time billed to it and then be subdivided into further tasks. This is on the wishlist (see http://bugs.timesheetng.org), I entered it myself. I am not sure that it is so strightforward, but you are right it needs a kind of parent field to support it. You would need to take care that entries are not made against non-terminal (i.e. composite) tasks. In classic Gantt sense their times are the rolled up values of the sub-tasks. Would it be possible to make the task lists hierarchical under projects? or would that break anything fundamental in the design? I've been creating projects and entering tasks in the same way that they tend to appear in a gantt chart but a gantt chart is hierarchical whereas the timesheet system doesn't appear to be so. As far as I can see it could be a relatively simple change in the database to add an optional parent task field and a slightly harder change to support the hierarchical tasks in the PHP and HTML but would there be any major disadvantages? |

ive got to add a number of users with basically the same access to projects/tasks. im not really a PHP programmer but Ive added come code to user_maint.php and user_action.php to give a 'clone a user' option, which copes an existing users project/task assignments to another (new) user. It seems to work. I'm happy to make it available if anyone is interested - just tell me where you want me to send it. |

Hi, I have begin to make a list of all terms used that need to be translated. I actually have 250 lines. As soon as I have an access to a Wiki, I will make a table where we can add the Keys corresponding to the terms. After that, I will begin to translate the terms in french. So, my opinion on committees is that they typically suck, and are very often not needed. Sure they are occasionally necessary, and there are times when you need to bounce your ideas off someone else. Fine, great, I understand all that. In this case, I'd rather not see this task die from "design by committee" disease. Anyone who's actually interested in helping to get TSNG to a point where it is possible to provide translations to other languages just needs to start somewhere and do it, preferably with solid standard practices. As I see it, the translation directory tree, English translation file, and a single, already existing TSNG php file changed to use this translation file should be checked in as the first step of this process. From there, others can take that work and begin to use that to "fix" the other files, one at a time. I'll (probably) even help, once it's started, but I don't have the time or the drive to lead this charge, but I certainly support it. To maintain a modicum of organisation, I have created two new branches in SVN: svn:/tsheetx/branches/timesheet.ng-1.5.x_iphone/ svn./tsheetx/branches/timesheet.ng-1.5.x_zimbra/ I also deleted some old unused maintenance branches. So I suggest the following rules: 1. Keep /trunk for bugfixes and simple improvements to V1.5.x (like translation support) 2. The 2.0 branch has changes (mostly from Rob) that should be taken up. But not necessarily now. 3. Use the other branches during development of larger changes, and merge back to trunk when ready. Obviously, it's an open game so anyone can play to the rules they like, and it depends on when and how many changes come in, but let's see how we get on. Cheers |

I recently started using FrontAccounting and saw there that it is relatively easy using gettext, if your host supports the locale setting and you can handle/generate the *.po and *.mo files (poedit). v1.5.1 was released on 8/18/2010. Changes include - fixing a timezone issues with PHP 5.3+ - working excel export migrated to several other reports - time display under windows didn't support strftime's %T format, so these were replaced with "%H:%M:%S - added a "favicon" - to see it, a line must be added to the html header configuration item - the default configuration items have been updated - and several other small fixes. |

I've just checked into SVN revision 129. There are two major things going into that revision: 1. A few default configuration items have been modified within the DB's config table 2. Installation scripts have been changed to install or upgrade to version 1.5.1 For those who have SVN test beds, please test the upgrade/install processes and report any issues. I have done what testing I am able on a single linux platform, and for me, everything is looking good. I'm hoping we can get this new version released in early August. -Scott |
