Hi All Can anyone tell me how to create a bootable CD ROM out of the new 0.81pre0-24.5 iso image? I'm not sure what .img file to use for the CD ROM boot sector. The ISO doesn't seem to contain one. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Phill -----Original Message----- From: Matthew Franz [mailto:mat...@ya...] Sent: Friday, 9 November 2001 10:08 a.m. To: tri...@li...; tri...@li... Subject: [Trinux-talk] New .iso for PCMCIA I've released a new 4mb .iso image for testing (0.81pre0-24.5). The primary purpose is for laptops since previous versions were missing the pcmcia-bin.tgz package. It is available at: http://www.trinux.org/iso/ or http://prdownloads.sf.net/trinux/ but this is very slow and I'm not sure it got uploaded correctly Post any problems to the list. __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!? If you have a Winmodem it probably won't even work. First you will need to make sure your modem is detected. You will need the serial-net.tgz kernel package which has the ppp kernel modules and serial modules as well. You will need to use kernel 2.4.5 and copy the package to your boot floppy. trinux> lsmod Module Size Used by bsd_comp 4360 0 (unused) ppp_async 6700 0 (unused) ppp_generic 15432 0 [bsd_comp ppp_async] slhc 5180 0 [ppp_generic] serial 54928 0 (unused) isa-pnp 31568 0 [serial] ide-disk 7052 2 ide-probe-mod 9256 0 ide-mod If you don't see this then try /etc/init.m/ppp and try again doing #dmesg isapnp: Scanning for PnP cards... isapnp: No Plug & Play device found Serial driver version 5.05a (2001-03-20) with MANY_PORTS SHARE_IRQ SERIAL_PCI ISAPNP enabled ttyS00 at 0x03f8 (irq = 4) is a 16550A ttyS01 at 0x02f8 (irq = 3) is a 16550A CSLIP: code copyright 1989 Regents of the University of California PPP generic driver version 2.4.1 PPP BSD Compression module registered should show this as well > > I get the "ppp" package but it seem to be a ppp server not a client ??? > > Thanks in advance for your help. > Actually they are the same thing :) Read http://www.linuxdoc.org/HOWTO/PPP-HOWTO/ and write back to the list after you get the kernel modules installed -mdf |

I couldn't define my poblem about file size limit well. I couldn't generate a file greater than 2GB at the nfs. So I think trinux nfs-client.gz uses NFSv2 which has this file size limit. I think I must upgrade to NFSv3. The other thing is ntfstools does not work. We could not make ntfs on device. Are there neccessary packages that i have to install. Hello All, I need some clarification. Matt built a kernel with Adaptec SCSI = support. Do I need to put the bzImage file on the CD that I want to boot = from? I put it on a floppy and tried to boot from it with the current CD = in the drive, but that did not work as planned. What I am trying to do = is gain read-only access to the NTFS partition. The CD drive is on an = Adaptec AIC-7860 controller. The NTFS partition is on a Dell PowerEdge = Expandable RAID 2 controller. Any suggestions? Thanks. Rich Thomas |

Regarding to 2GB file limit, you can use reiserfs. The kernel module is fsmods.tgz and the binaries for creating the filesystem are in reiserfs.tgz. No, there is not currently an nfs-server package. I can definitely look into that. Building a package is easy and takes no time at all. Based on past experience with some of the samba modules it probably would take a couple of times to get it right with your help. -mdf --- Cagatay Koksoy <ca...@ae...> wrote: > > First, > I wonder is it possible to start a nfs server on the > machine whis uses > trinux as an OS.(I am using kernel 2.4.5 and load > the module nfsd -or > atleast tried-. but i could not find nfs-server pkg. > ) > > Second, > I also encounter with the problem file size > limit,(2GB) what can i do in > order to over come this? > > Thanks in advance. > > > Cagatay Koksoy > ______________________________________________________________________________ > > ca...@ev... > ca...@ae... > kca...@me... > _______________________________________________________________________________ > > > _______________________________________________ > Trinux-talk mailing list > Tri...@li... > https://lists.sourceforge.net/lists/listinfo/trinux-talk __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!? First, I wonder is it possible to start a nfs server on the machine whis uses trinux as an OS.(I am using kernel 2.4.5 and load the module nfsd -or atleast tried-. but i could not find nfs-server pkg. ) Second, I also encounter with the problem file size limit,(2GB) what can i do in order to over come this? You can review the trinux-talk archives to see how to build/rebuild the initrd (see the link off the main trinux.sf.net page) and/or see the mkrd script at http://www.io.com/~mdfranz/trinux/devtools/ Most everything is in linuxrc or scripts in /sbin/ Add to/modify stuff in \tux\init on the boot floppy to add your own commands to exectued. File encryption? Symmetric/Assymetric? There is a GnuPG package in http://trinux.sf.net/pkg/ that could be used. I could probably drum up an AES package as well. Or filesystem encryption?? That would be interesting. Running the OS of non-encrypting ramdisk filesystems but accessing data from fixed persisent encrypted filesytems. Hmmm... I will look into that. - mdf |

Hello there. I am trying to mount the Trinux initrd, after decompressing it and insmoding the loop.o module, using the "-o loop" parameter. It does not work and I get >ioctl: LOOP_SET_FD: Invalid argument I have tried to mount some other loop devices in the same way but it never works anyway. I use trinux in RAM (with tmpfs). Is it a limitation of the tmpfs filesystem? If it is the case, can I find a workaround to that? Another problem. I run ircii, irc client; I found a binary on the net, and it works just fine with Trinux. But I get banned of most channels as soon as I come in because I am root. I have tried to add a user in /etc/passwd, and to export USER=anyuser... in vain. How do I create a user and login. Even a rustic, script based way would be nice. Apart from that, trinux is great. You don't need disk space, and you have a complete linux distro with all the funniest tools. I have began to configure a firewall (as my default policy is DROP for the three built-in chains, some packets are sometimes dropped when they should not... but it is an excellent way to force you to read some RFC and learn a lot). And the "savehome"/"gethome" feature is very nice too. I have opened a shell account and I can store there a few scripts and data. Thank you for trinux and any hints are welcome for that loop device problem and a minimal multiuser support. The net is my hard disk - Herme |

I wouldn't use the packages from ibiblio. See http://trinux.sf.net/mirrors.html for good sites. The boot disk you use rawrite or windows rawrite to transfer the 1.4mb image to the floppy directly (do not copy via windows, it wont fit) For the packages, if you have network access, the easiest is to do network package loading, but you can download the packages you want onto additional floppies. > > Salutations. > So, I grabbed some trinux packages from iblio.
