Hi Richard, The easiest way is with the smbmount.tgz package which requires smbcore.tgz I don't think anybody ever got the smbclient command working but I know the following does work: From smbmount --help mount -t smbfs -o username=tridge, password=foobar //fjall/test /data/test where test is the sharename You'll need to make sure the smbfs.o kernel mod is installed (available in the fsmods.tgz kernel package) - mdf --- Richard Thomas <ri...@th...> wrote: > I hope everyone's holiday is going well. Hello, Excuse me for my lame question, but I got a lot of difficulties to load my own package. I explain a bit : I'm using the trinux-ide 0.80rc2 floppy disk as boot disk I'm using a CDROM where I got my own pakages in /trinux I add my package name in the /tux/config/pkglist file on the floppy. And... The package isn't loading at boot ! So I got 2 questions : 1/ What file can I change on the floppy disk to load my package ? 2/ What tux/config/pkglist file on the floppy useful for ? Thank you by advance, and sorry for my bad english. -- Arnaud Jacques Coordination technique de SecuriteInfo.com |

Almost any of the boot image disk will get you a bare bones system. Really bare bones. Just enough to figure out that you are missing alot. Some boot disks do behave differently, so you might try one or two. Once you get it up to a prompt, then you can figure out which packages you want, and put them on a second floppy disk (or third...) Trinux should ask you during boot to insert any additional package disks, or you can mount them (the barebones includes a mount command) and use addpkg directly on the package files contained on the disk. There is usually a hard disk on most any system you boot up. I think you can put packages on the (dos/windows/but_not_linux!) disk partition and add package from the hard disk. This is much faster. I hope this helps... On Fri, 21 Dec 2001, Brian Johnson wrote: > I suspect I'll be shot for asking this however... > > I looked through most of the documentation I could find online for Trinux. I just downloaded the newest version of Trinux. I am using the network image, so I can simply load packages off trinux.sourceforge.net/pkg/ I tried to use getpkg but seeming nothing happened. So I looked at the getpkg script and saw what you did so I tried snarf http://trinux.sourceforge.net/pkg/vim.tgz - | gunzip -c | tar xvf - I added the v option to tar so I could see what was going on. It printed out all the things I expected to see. . .. it wrote to /usr and /usr/local and /bin and it wrote to /etc/init.d . But then I looked and nothing was actually created. There was no /etc/init.d for example. Nothing that it was supposed to write had actually been written. I don't know if this is important, but when booting, it says /dev/null is mounted at /usr, /usr/local, and at /home I'm really confused as to how to get network loading to work. What am I doing wrong?? Thanks for any and all help you can give. I looked around for documentation on this problem, but haven't found anything, so if there is a good resource, please direct me to it. Thanks ben |

Hi. Looking closer to the installation process for FreeS/WAN, it seems that a new kernel is required. As you're short in time, don't bother to do it. I am going home for three weeks and I'll try to access a complete linux box, in order to compile a kernel (probably a 2.5.0) and the binaries. I'll use your config file as a basis, and compile all the modules in the same way. If I manage to do that, I'll burn it onto a cdrom and I'll let you know and share all the stuff once I am back here. I can't reasonably start apache at home because it is a 56k modem connection (I don't know the speed of _this_ connection but it is fast enough...) So I'll post on the list when I'm done, it won't be before mid-january. As I am at it, I will also try to compile a gcc compiler and make, flex, ... or just taking them from SuSE 7.2 and stripe them down to be able to play with all that using Trinux during the next term. But I can't promise anything about that, because I don't exactly know which header files I must include in the packages, and so on. I'll have a look at SuSE's gcc rpm. corg --- Matthew Franz <mf...@ci...> wrote: > >Wow, I think this is actually the first post on trinux-ipsec. :) > >It has been over a year since I messed with Freeswan. How do I get the network boot disk to see my cdrom. On the "Selecting = Packages" page under "Fixed Disk Package Loading " step 4 says that you = can add other file systems to a boot disk but it doesn't say how to add = the kernel modules. I am assuming that if you can add ext2 that you = could also add ISO. In either case where do I put the .O files on the = boot disk and what config files do I edit and with what lines? I tried = adding the .O files to the root of the floppy and adding "alias ext2" & = "alias isofs" to modules but this didn't work. My goal is to have several files systems (ext2, ext3, fat16 fat32, iso, = smb, ntfs) supported and all of the network cards supported. I was = thinking adding the files systems to the network boot disk was the one = way of doing this. Is there a better way to do this? Thanks for your help. |

Wow, I think this is actually the first post on trinux-ipsec. :) It has been over a year since I messed with Freeswan. I started on a script that would manually bring up tunnels because I didn't much care for how the FreeS/WAN folks did things with their startup script--among other things. I was actually more interested in trying to do a VPN via PPP over SSH/Stunnel because it might be easier and it would avoid hacking the kernel more, but if you are willing do test things and develop some scripts to automate things I'll see if I can build some new modules and/or dig up the old packages. The bottom line is if I gan get a few people who are interested and willing to help out it should be possible, because I'm short on time at the moment. -mdf Actually > Hello, > > I was having a look at Trinux homepage. Hello, I was having a look at Trinux homepage. From the crypto section, I went to the FreeS/WAN homepage. It seems very interesting, though a little bit "draft" at the moment (In fact, it just makes that more interesting ;-). But I could find neither the ipsecbin, not the ipsecmods package. And when I looked at the trinux-ipsec archive, it seems that it has been deserted for a while. If you have these modules for 2.4.5 and the binaries, could you please make a package of them? I would like to try opportunistic encryption first, but it is not likely that I will find many hosts using it, is it? So if someone is interested, we could exchange keys by gpg-encrypted mail and try to connect via http (webfsd would be just fine for the purpose). A few questions about Trinux: 1) Why a few applications complain about the missing libncurses.so.5? Which package have I to load for having them on my system? Do I have to load this library by hand? How? 2) How can I set up a NFS client on the Trinux box? Which packages have I to load on my system? How I have to configure it? 3) How can I set up a PPP client/server daemon on my Trinux box? Which packages have I to load on my system? How I have to configure it? Many thanks in advance. Alessandro Bottoni |

Hi ! I try the "new" version of Trinux, and I need to enable my swap. But busybox doesn't seem to support this "applet" (try busybox --help :)) I try to compile some swapon static linked but it doesn't work to ... Is the swap partition the same as "always" (RH distrib) or specific to Trinux ? (but Trinux use a classic kernel so ???) How can I do ? Hello, I have tried klogd. It works fine. I read the manual page, but it seems that no option is really necessary. So I just started syslogd It seems that the option -x will disable klogd to attempt reading the System.map file, and therefore avoid an error message. So, "syslogd -x" seems to be good. Thanks a lot. I know realize that I was being stupid and looked around the list until I went nearly blind and found some more info... I found the mousedev.o module and put it on my boot floppy next I proceeded to vi /tux/config/modules and added mousedev.o to the modules file... after rebooting my system and searching through "dmesg" and doing a few lsmod's I found no record of the module that I loaded ... what gives? _________________________________________________________________ Get your FREE download of MSN Explorer at http://explorer.msn.com/intl.asp |

It looks like the busybox syslogd doesn't included kernel logging. So.... I added klogd to the system.tgz package and it appears to work. Although there are some error messages. You'll have to start klogd. I included the man page because it does have some options. Let me know how it goes and I'll add something to the iptables startup script (or elsewhere) to automatically start it up. -mdf |
