So I'm using Slackware 7.1 (which is probably 5-6 years old) which uses glibc2.1.3. Glib 2.2.x and 2.3.x are just too large. I have a user mode linux environment that I used to build packages. If you want a copy email me off line and I'll provide a URL (it will probably be 200-300mb) to download it. In 1998 I had the full blown X 3.3.6 running and in 2001 I was working on getting X 4.x. working but ran into some problems. Its entirely possibly get it working. However for a bootable X enivironment Knoppix or one of the derivatives is probably the best way to go. - mdf - mdf > Matt/Others, > > Thanks for the help so far, but I'm afraid I've run > into another couple of problems :/ > > Ive been building various packages on a Slackware 9.1 > box which compile fine, but when I add them to my > trinux iso they complain about libraries at run time, > for example: > > ../b: error in loading shared libraries:libcrypto.so.0 > can't open shared object file: No such file or > directory > > ../lsrtunnel: /lib/libc.so.6: version 'GLIBC_2.3' not > found (required by ./lsrtunnel) > > ../hydra: error in loading shared libraries: > libssl.so.0 can't opne shared object file: No such > file or directory > > Obviously this is a /lib problem - how do you develop > the libraries (I'm assuming that you don't just 'cp' > them from you dev box to the iso - I'll be honest I > haven't check the file sizes to see if this is the > case). > > Also (perhaps more of a general *nix question) I'm > confused as to my ./b fails in trinux because it > complains of libcrypto.so.0 and trinux has > libcrypto.so.1, as does my slackware 9 dev box and on > that I can run ./b fine. > > > Also has anyone looked at a X windows package? Matt/Others, Thanks for the help so far, but I'm afraid I've run into another couple of problems :/ Ive been building various packages on a Slackware 9.1 box which compile fine, but when I add them to my trinux iso they complain about libraries at run time, for example: ./b: error in loading shared libraries:libcrypto.so.0 can't open shared object file: No such file or directory ./lsrtunnel: /lib/libc.so.6: version 'GLIBC_2.3' not found (required by ./lsrtunnel) ./hydra: error in loading shared libraries: libssl.so.0 can't opne shared object file: No such file or directory Obviously this is a /lib problem - how do you develop the libraries (I'm assuming that you don't just 'cp' them from you dev box to the iso - I'll be honest I haven't check the file sizes to see if this is the case). Also (perhaps more of a general *nix question) I'm confused as to my ./b fails in trinux because it complains of libcrypto.so.0 and trinux has libcrypto.so.1, as does my slackware 9 dev box and on that I can run ./b fine. Also has anyone looked at a X windows package? I've been looking at the XTiny server(http://www.superant.com/smalllinux/tinyX01.html) binaries (I can't seem to find the source!!!?) but they were compiled against ld-linux.so.1 or so a 'strings ./xinit |head -1' tells me, so I can't get them to run on a standard Slackware 9.1 box let along a trinux iso. I'd be intrested to see what success others have had, or any suggests as to how to sort XTiny __________________________________ Do you Yahoo!? Friends. Fun. Try the all-new Yahoo! I released a Linux 2.4.26 based boot floppy with USB and SCSI drivers necessary to load packages from USB drives. Simple create a \trinux\bootpkg directory on your USB device and add packages. Downloads available at: http://sourceforge.net/project/showfiles.php?group_id=3301&package_id=118955&release_id=24045 This version of Trinux allows packages to be loaded off a USB Drive. You will need to add the right kernel module for your network device to the modules directory on the floppy. Currently the only driver is Intel EtherExpress Pro 100. Kernel modules are available at http://www.speakeasy.org/~mfranz/trinux/modules/2.4.26/ On your USB drive, create a \trinux\bootpkg\ directory and add package from http://trinux.sf.net/pkg/ to that directory. At a minimum you will need: dhcpcd.tgz dnslibs.tgz baselib.tgz term.tgz The following is the contents of the boot floppy. .: total 1194 drwxr-xr-x 6 root root 7168 Jan 1 1970 . drwxr-xr-x 20 root root 4096 Nov 2 2003 .. drwxr-xr-x 2 root root 512 May 23 15:39 bootpkg -rwxr-xr-x 1 root root 590356 May 23 18:22 bzImage -rwxr-xr-x 1 root root 607789 May 23 18:37 initrd.gz drwxr-xr-x 2 root root 512 May 23 16:19 kpkg -r-xr-xr-x 1 root root 6900 Jan 28 2002 ldlinux.sys -rwxr-xr-x 1 root root 1193 Jul 19 2003 license drwxr-xr-x 2 root root 1024 May 23 15:52 modules -rwxr-xr-x 1 root root 126 Sep 3 2002 syslinux.cfg drwxr-xr-x 3 root root 512 Aug 3 2003 tux ./bootpkg: total 8 drwxr-xr-x 2 root root 512 May 23 15:39 . drwxr-xr-x 6 root root 7168 Jan 1 1970 .. ./kpkg: total 28 drwxr-xr-x 2 root root 512 May 23 16:19 . drwxr-xr-x 6 root root 7168 Jan 1 1970 .. -rwxr-xr-x 1 root root 19984 May 15 23:48 netmod0.tgz ./modules: total 206 drwxr-xr-x 2 root root 1024 May 23 15:52 . drwxr-xr-x 6 root root 7168 Jan 1 1970 .. -rwxr-xr-x 1 root root 13081 May 23 15:52 eepro100.gz -rwxr-xr-x 1 root root 20883 May 16 20:57 isa-pnp.gz -rwxr-xr-x 1 root root 2348 May 23 15:52 mii.gz -rwxr-xr-x 1 root root 49110 May 23 15:45 scsi_mod.gz -rwxr-xr-x 1 root root 8662 May 23 15:45 sd_mod.gz -rwxr-xr-x 1 root root 53220 May 23 15:45 usb-storage.gz -rwxr-xr-x 1 root root 14722 May 23 15:45 usb-uhci.gz -rwxr-xr-x 1 root root 39339 May 23 15:45 usbcore.gz ./tux: total 9 drwxr-xr-x 3 root root 512 Aug 3 2003 . drwxr-xr-x 6 root root 7168 Jan 1 1970 .. drwxr-xr-x 3 root root 1024 May 23 15:52 config -rwxr-xr-x 1 root root 6 Aug 3 2003 version ./tux/config: total 6 drwxr-xr-x 3 root root 1024 May 23 15:52 . drwxr-xr-x 3 root root 512 Aug 3 2003 .. -rwxr-xr-x 1 root root 13 Nov 5 2003 dns drwxr-xr-x 2 root root 512 Aug 18 2003 dropbear -rwxr-xr-x 1 root root 5 May 16 19:11 eth0 -rwxr-xr-x 1 root root 0 Sep 1 2002 forward -rwxr-xr-x 1 root root 12 May 6 22:35 gateway -rwxr-xr-x 1 root root 278 Aug 10 2003 inittab -rwxr-xr-x 1 root root 105 May 23 16:18 modules -rwxr-xr-x 1 root root 51 Aug 7 2003 pkglist -- | Matthew Franz md...@io... | | http://www.io.com/~mdfranz

Once again (one can never be sure how long) Trinux is under active development. :) A new 2.4.26 kernel has been built -- see http://www.speakeasy.org/~mfranz/trinux/kernel/2.4.26/minimal/ Still working on some weird issues with modular IDE support. Modules are available in http://www.speakeasy.org/~mfranz/trinux/modules/2.4.26/ I have been updating module packages to http://trinux.sf.net/pkg/2.4.26 and you will also see lots of packages being updated Released a Cardbus floppy image built on 2.4.26 see http://sourceforge.net/project/showfiles.php?group_id=3301&package_id=118345 A bunch of old stuff has been deleted and moved to http://devel.trinux.org/old/ - mdf -- | Matthew Franz md...@io... | | http://www.io.com/~mdfranz

Hi Mike, I thought there might be one in http://trinux.sf.net/modules/2.4.19 but it is empty. However, within days I'll put out a pre-release PCMCIA disk for kernel 2.4.26 for testing, most likely over the weekend. The proof is actually in http://trinux.sf.net/pkg/2.4.26 with new module and module packages being added daily. - mdf > Hi Matthew > > I have setup some old laptops in IDFs with Trinux. Hi Matthew I have setup some old laptops in IDFs with Trinux. They are running the latest PCMCIA image with 2.4.19 kernel. I would like to be able to use the serial port on the laptops for console access into the switch (6509s ;). But it doesn't look like there is a serial package for 2.4.19. I believe I will need this to go with the minicom package. Would you mind creating one for 2.4.19? BTW, I tried it with the 2.4.21 kernel module, but of course it didn't like it :( trinux> insmod /lib/modules/serial.o /lib/modules/serial.o: kernel-module version mismatch /lib/modules/serial.o was compiled for kernel version 2.4.21 while this kernel is version 2.4.19. Thanks! Mike |

The quick answer (and I'll have to revisit the linuxrc for a longer answer, since it has been a while) is that /dev/ram will be set by the size of the initrd. See http://www.io.com/~mdfranz/trinux/devtools/mkrd for how the initrd is built. Specificially the count for dd sets the size of the ramdisk. There also a hard kernel limit on the size of the ramdisk that you can configure when you build the kernel. It is likely that it is set at 8mb/16mb. However you should be able to get around this by creating a huge /usr partiion and configuring the size of the partition either within the linuxrc, since ramdisks aren't used for none / partition. tmpfs /dev/shm is used. Search for tmpfs or none or SIZE or even mkfs.minix and you should see where they are created. - mdf > Hi All, > > I'm trying to customise Trinux CD so that I can have > all the packages I want loaded during startup via > bootpkg, however when I use perl and python I run out > of disk space on /. Hi All, I'm trying to customise Trinux CD so that I can have all the packages I want loaded during startup via bootpkg, however when I use perl and python I run out of disk space on /. I've tried increasing the space assigned to /local /usr etc in linuxrc but can't find a method of increasing the size of / (/dev/ram). While I am using vmware to build the bootable CD, which asigns 1/2 my laptops RAM to the virtual machine, a 'df' from a trinux boot in VMWare and a normal boot reviles no difference, so I don't think it's connected to the size of RAM available to the system (is it?) Can anyone point me the line(s) in linuxrc that I should be editoring to increase the size of /dev/ram and thus / so that I can fit more packages into a live Trinux? Danke bzw. Thanks - I had tried Knoppix (must boot from floppy image diskette) and it worked (except X-desktop, it didn't succeed in recognizing the "monitor"), so I'll now pay attention on the way it recognizes de NIC. I'll keep posting on this. Hallo, Sistemas, Du meintest am 25.02.04 zum Thema [Trinux-talk] Cannot get Trinux running on laptop: > I have an old Toshiba Tecra 510CDT (Pentium I, 133 MHz, 148 MB > RAM) with a 3COM(Megahertz) FE575C 10/100 Cardbus Fast Ethernet > NIC. When Knoppix finds the card, you can try to "adapt" the special module. Viele Gruesse! Helmut |

Hallo Trinux-Talk After running (succesfully) Trinux for more than 5 months on desktop PC-Hardware (tipically 200 MHz Pentium Pro clones with 64 MB RAM), I wanted to put it on a laptop for lesser footprint. I have an old Toshiba Tecra 510CDT (Pentium I, 133 MHz, 148 MB RAM) with a 3COM(Megahertz) FE575C 10/100 Cardbus Fast Ethernet NIC. This card is listed in the PCMCIA compatibility list, but I cant't get the pcmcia-090602.img diskette recognizing it. It boots but I don't get network functionallity. No sign the 3COM card being detected. Is there something I can change in the config files or an extra file I can put to get it to work ? Thank you for your help! DAVID RAMIREZ Bogotá - Colombia |

>So it is not using the saved configuration in /etc/tux/config/ ? No exactly, the stored configuration is in the boot partition in a fat filesystem as explain the manual. Is in c:\trinux\tux\config, but every time trinux boots creates is own /etc/tux/config without copying the config files in c:\trinux\tux\config. Look for point 1.4 in the manual (http://trinux.sourceforge.net/docs.txt) to see my exact installation. > >and > >it is not installing the modules in /etc/tux/config/modules right? The same again. So it is not using the saved configuration in /etc/tux/config/ ? and it is not installing the modules in /etc/tux/config/modules right? Are the modules showing up in /lib/modules/ after the boot? Where did you put the .o files or are you using module packages (kpkg)? the kpkg (kernel packages) must go in the kpkg directory? Any error messages? - mdf > I have installed trinux in a hard drive following instructions from Tri= nux=20 > manual (1.4 Fixed Partition (IDE Drive)) > Trinux boots well an load all the packages in bootpkg, but don't load=20 > modules and tux/config > Someone knows why and how to solve it? >=20 > Thanks >=20 > _________________________________________________________________ > Correos m=E1s divertidos con fotos y textos incre=EDbles en MSN 8. Just a little side note to my last post. I forgot to tell you that if you dont have smbclient, use "getpkg smbclient" to download and install it then try to print. |
