Hi, I installed LaTex in hopes of getting invoices printed the way I want them to. I also blasted away my /usr/local/sql-ledger except for the users/kmastin.conf file and the sql-ledger.conf files (and the templates that I've customized) as I noted from the mailing list archives. I re-installed the sql-ledger program, mv'ed the saved files back to their original state and brought up the program in Opera. Sql-Ledger Version 1.8.3 Redhat 7.1 2.4.3-12 (stock Redhat) kernel tetex-latex-1.0.7-15 Is there something I have to do to initiate LaTex? I ran latex and was requested to type the name of my input file, so I *think* it's working. If all that is running as expected, then I'm back to un-installing/re-installing? If so, can I keep my templates and user.conf and sql-ledger.conf file? There is one line in Deiter's reply on the mailing list that I did not fully understand: "If you have modified sql-ledger.conf merge the changes from the default file rather than copying over top." I expect that does not apply to my case as I did not upgrade and am using a "virgin" version 1.8.3 install? Thanks for any help. -- Keith Mastin km...@be... Hi everybody,
sorry to bother you with such a basic question, but I can't seem to get
SQL-Ledger working. I followed the steps outlined in the README file,
but now all I can get is an internal server error (with Apache on Linux,
everything compiled by ourselves and running well for over a year).
The exact error message in the error log is:
Unknown error
Compilation failed in require at /usr/local/sql-ledger/admin.pl line 86.
[Tue Apr 2 12:19:57 2002] [error] [client 192.168.1.103] Premature end
of script headers: /usr/local/sql-ledger/admin.pl
when I try to configure the database or the same message with login.pl
when I try to login with an existing user (I can add users).
Permissions, etc. seem to be correct as far as I can tell, because
everything runs up to this point.
I tried with Mozilla 0.9.9, Netscape 4.7x and Lynx too, because the
error occurs on a "require" line. I printed the content of this require
line and everything seems normal ("bin/mozilla/login.pl" for example,
which exists and is readable).
Any help would be *greatly* appreciated since I cannot even begin to try
out the software without this!
Thanks in advance,
Julien Lajeunesse

"ident" authentication method is new in Postgres 7.2. Debian hacked something together called "peer" authentication, and it was adopted upstream with version 7.2. If Mandrake adopted the "peer" scheme used in 7.1 in Debian you need to replace all instances of that word with "ident" in /etc/postgresql/pg_hba.conf. Also, make sure that postmaster was started with the -i flag if you want to connect via TCP/IP. Damien |

When I try to create a new database, or connect to an existing one I get the follwing error message: FATAL 1: IDENT authentication failed for user "postgres" I can see the dbs when running psql as postgres. Could it be a firewall problem, or networking problem or some passwd problem? This is just after moving from postgres 7.1 to 7.2 under Mandrake 8.2 and loading the databases. keld |

cant make out which country you are from, but these things are country specific. In India, small and medium size companies would fire any purchase manager who includes software in his budget. Hardware dealers are expected to preinstall pirated versions of M$ os and software if they want the order. there are a bunch of accounting packages - all conforming to international standards - going at around $250/- or less (assuming that the customer pays for them). Programmers are almost never employed in the accounting side. An accountant with some data entry assistants is all that is needed. a competent accountant would work for about $100 a month (this is on the high side). A data entry operator would go for about $40 per month. I have been working with several govenment organisations trying to convert them to linux. They are already in a 'software free, installation free environment'. how do i convert them to a 'software free, installation paid for scenario'? of course, M$ and its cohorts pay top$ to informants and conduct raids with police help where they seize the machines and extort license fees - but this is a war i do not want to get involved in. that is why i am talking reliable, stable and honest ps the rate for shrink wrapped rh7.2 and shrinkwrapped M$ os+office here is about the same On Sunday 31 March 2002 22:17, Steve Doerr wrote: > Kenneth Gonsalves wrote: > > anyway - if you are propagating opensource, please dont do the movement a > > disservice by talking free or cheap - talk reliable, stable and honest > > regards > > I think you're a little too hasty to discount the economics of free > software. FOR GOD SAKE !!
WHO say that sql-ledger should include php !!?????
I just posted that example in php to **illustrate** the
whole thing !
so you can see there are NO .htpasswd files around using
http auth.
(and because it's the languaje I have at handy)
OF COURSE, iif sql-ledger incorporates http auth,
it should be written in perl.

hi omar, might be time to check out debian if you are going to reinstall - i found that after RH has been installed for a year or so the dependencies get mixed up and become so much of a mess that further RPM installation becomes impossible. most people start out with RH/mandrake but once they switch to debian they tend to stick with it. as far as i remember the packages required on debian were libdbi-perl and libdbd-pg-perl and were installed by typing #apt-get install libdbi-perl libdbd-pg-perl and the system automatically downloads the latest versions of the required packages. also, slackware is known to be a good distro for machines which are carrying out specific tacks shuch as database and web serving etc. kev bailey Omar BaheyEldin wrote: > I am fed up, > I will upgrade , Will have the CD today (I hope) > > At 07:47 Õ 27/03/02 +0530, Kenneth Gonsalves wrote: > >> dbi and dbd will not work on redhat 5.2. i dont know about postgres, >> but for >> mysql there is a composite thingie called, i think, dbd::mysql that >> does the >> work of both dbi and dbd >> kg >> On Tuesday 26 March 2002 22:22, Omar BaheyEldin wrote: >> > >Hi All, >> > >> > Have there any body who was able to make sql-ledger work under >> Redhat linux >> > 5.2, >> > I have had terrible four or five days trying to install the DBI and >> > DBD but I have failed in that >> > Omr >> > >> > >> > _________________________________________________________ >> > Do You Yahoo!? >> > Get your free @yahoo.com address at http://mail.yahoo.com > > > > _________________________________________________________ > Do You Yahoo!? > Get your free @yahoo.com address at http://mail.yahoo.com > > > > |

hi dieter,
how about storing the accounting menu in a xml file ?
(and ideally using a xsl stylesheet to transform it in html)
(a step forward to separate the perl code from the html code)
something like:
<?xml version="1.0" encoding="ISO-8859-1"?>
<menu>
<name>AR</name>
<choice>
<label>Add Transaction</label>
<module>ar</module>
<action>add</action>
</choice>
<choice>
....
</menu>
there are many good xml parsers for perl.
/sergio

This is the error message I get when trying to log into http://localhost/sql-ledger/admin.pl I did the chown nobody:nobody users templates. login.pl works great its just admin.pl that gives the error. I checked the directory /usr/local/sql-ledger and it looks like admin.pl is symlink to login.pl. Is this right? I am using apache 1.3.22. Mozilla 0.9.2.1 and RedHat 7.2 Postgre 7.1.3 Thanks, Paul |
