Everyone,

I would like to take this opportunity to wish everyone a very happy and safe
holidays. It's been a great year for evolution of Spring Framework. I really
am proud to be a part of this great team of such talented people. I have a
feeling the new year would be very positive for Spring Framework and
continuing trend towards lightweight architectures.

Thanks Alef. I'll try that out. Looking at the code for the CC 
scheduler, though, I think you have to put the multiple="1" builder last 
or it'll be used each time (because 1 divides any number) and any 
additional builders will be ignored.

I've also hacked the xsl to remove most of the output apart from build 
errors. I'll leave it running over the holiday period and if it seems 
happy enough I'll get it to mail failures to the list.

No problem. You can have multiple AntBuilder elements in your config
file. For instance like this:

<antbuilder target="clean build" mulitple="5"/>
<antbuilder target="build"/>

Then it'll do a clean build every five builds (the other builds are
normal ones).

When using the MavenBuilder, you can do the same thing. OF course if
you're builing hourly, the clean-build should have a multiple attribute
of 24 (or 23, I never know ;-):

<mavenbuilder goal="maven:distribute" multiple="1"/> <!-- multiple = 1
by default -->
<mavenbuilder goal="clean maven:distribute" multiple="5"/>

Should do the trick...

Not as far as I know :), but I'm pretty new to hosting business so the 
exerience is welcome. It's running on a DSL line which seems to be OK. I 
get quite a lot of hits already just from Google searches on the Spring 
and JBoss stuff.

releases of Eclipse I'm stupid enough to use :-)

How often does the build run?

It would be nice to link from the home page in the near future. However,
this could produce a lot of hits. Do you have any problems with that?

Commons Attributes looks adequate, although I have some reservations about
its parsing capability. (It doesn't really parse at all.) I think that the
approach of generating Java source files works pretty well.

I think it will become more evident as more people use Spring's attributes
integration whether Commons Attributes is the way forward. The Spring
Attributes interface provides a facade, allowing pluggable attribute
provides (including, of course, eventually JSR-175, and possible a hierarchy
of different providers allowing for overriding source-level attributes in
configuration).

Btw I've added an attributes example to the new JPetStore; this illustrate
build process and usage. This provides declarative transaction management
based on attributes, with no need for a TransactionProxyFactoryBean. See the
/attributes directory of the sample app for

Yah, you can't really use GPL or LGPL code with Java - it would need to be
under a BSD compatible license to be usable with Spring in any distributed
applications.

I just came across a referece to the XMLmind XML Editor, which supports 
editing of DocBook format docs in the free version, as long as you use 
the docbook dtd definition, not the schema def...

[Springframework-developer] Questions on JdbcTemplate and JdbcDaoSupport

Hi gurus,

I have some questions on JdbcTemplate and JdbcDaoSupport classes.

In JdbcTemplate's afterPropertiesSet() method, the exception translator
was eagerly created, which causes problems for me when I try to
dynamically use datasources to connect to different databases.
I have a wrapper class for datasources, which doesn't know which
database to connect to when the beans are set up first.  So this
afterPropertiesSet() in JdbcTemplate doesn't work in this case.

Maybe we can remove the eager creation of exception translator?

I do have a work around, which is create a new class that extends
from JdbcTemplate and overwrite the afterPropertiesSet() method.

The next question on JdbcDaoSupport doesn't have as nice a workaround
as the above one.  In JdbcDaoSupport, many methods are final, which
prevents me from overwriting them.  This is kind of inflexible though.
I can understand we may want to have final methods, but we can
probably never anticipate all the cases where the classes may be
used.  So is it possible to remove "final" from some of the methods?

My workdaround is duplicate JdbcDaoSupport into my own class, which
is not as nice as extending it and overwrite some behavior.

Spring is pretty flexible, so we should probably maintain this
flexibility.

Regarding why I would like to have some specific context associated
with Axis servlet, I guess my idea was more along the line of the
way that Spring allows us to have different DispatcherServlet's
with different context associations.  I think it'll be more flexible.

However, I still think the following idea is possible:

Get rid of Axis servlet, and integrate Axis (or other WS providers)
more tightly into Spring so that we can have Web Services controllers
that invoke Axis etc.

Does it make sense for other people?

   I don't think that ASL is compatible with GPL (or LGPL) either. But
   I had to put some kind of licence on the code and I normally use
   GPL.

   If the scheduler makes it into Spring the licence will be ASL.

[Springframework-developer] Scheduler update #3

I've managed to spend some more time working the scheduler,
and now I'm mostly satisfied with it. Since the last time
I added the JUnit tests (with 83% coverage measured with
Clover), made changes as was suggested (most importantly
added the name field), and packaged the library as a proper
project (using the Hibernate documentation generation
method).
