The Spring 2.0.7 maintenance release is imminent - scheduled for release towards the end of this week. The latest nightly snapshot is now available as a release candidate: spring-framework-2.0.7-20070926-120 (available from http://static.springframework.org/downloads/nightly/snapshot-download.php?pr oject=SPR). Done. SPR-3867 and SPR-3868.
I'm more familiar with the ASF way of doing open source and thought
you might want to discuss the merits of the patch before I created an
issue, that's why I didn't go there directly.

Dear Spring community, I'm pleased to announce that Spring Framework 2.1 M4 has been released! This milestone release introduces: * 'qualifier' annotation support for choosing a specific @Autowired match; * our next-generation Spring TestContext Framework with support for JUnit4; * SimpleJdbcCall operation object for stored procedure calls; * support for autowiring of scripted objects (Groovy, JRuby, BeanShell); * support for Tiles2 views in Spring Web MVC. The M4 release is now available from SourceForge: http://sourceforge.net/projects/springframework Which leads me to some further exciting news... We've been reviewing the overall set of features that we introduced in the recent 2.1 milestones: * full Java 6 and Java EE 5 support * full-featured annotation-driven dependency injection * support for component scanning in the classpath * "beanName" pointcut element in AspectJ pointcut expressions * built-in support for AspectJ load-time weaving * further XML configuration namespaces (context, jms) * extended SimpleJdbcTemplate functionality * officially certified WebSphere support * Spring ApplicationContext can be deployed as RAR file * JCA 1.5 message endpoint management (for JMS and CCI) * completely revised framework for integration tests We concluded that this goes significantly beyond what we originally planned for Spring 2.1. The version number 2.1, as used for the milestones, does not reflect the significance and the comprehensiveness of the features in this release. A thought really, but I have used it very successfully time and again: Use a Factory Bean to 'call' the legacy framework to create the service, in the process sending all the properties of the factory bean down the legacy framework. This is a common approach actually and to the best of my knowledge is used (or something similar) in the projects for connecting with other frameworks (SOAP, RMI, etc...). |

Hi, So we use Spring quite a bit at my job, but we also have some older = services that are created and configured using a legacy framework. It = occurred to me that even if the legacy framework creates the services, = using the Spring style XML and dependency injection would be a big = improvement over the configuration strategy of our legacy framework. Does anyone know of a techinique for defining a bean definition in = Spring, but having Spring apply that configuration to an external = service instead of creating a new object? Also what happens if the = external service is not yet available while Spring is starting? My first thought was to define a custom 'scope' in Spring, but it = looks like with Scopes Spring still creates the objects and just shares = them with some external storage (such as an HttpSession or HttpRequest, = etc). In my case I don't want Spring to create the object, just apply = its configuration. Thanks, Bryant |
