I have previously used the modelling tool ERwin<http://www.ca.com/us/products/product.aspx?ID=260>for maintaining databases. Its modelling features were awsome, but it also had a powerful compare functionality that proved to be extremely useful. It could compare model to model, model to physical database, database to another database, as well as database to model. From the generated diff, I could then choose to apply the changes and make the two sides equal. The strongest feature, however, was the ability to generate a SQL script from the diff that applied the changes to a database while keeping the data intact. We used this feature to take diffs between the new version and all of our released versions. These scripts could then be applied to the customer database when we were upgrading from any released version to the latest. Superb tool. Hello, I'm new to Spring - my apologies if this is a bit pedantic. I've been reviewing how to implement schema and data evolution in a new Spring-based application using Hibernate (I'm also new to Hibernate), as well as migration of existing production data into the new DB. Surprisingly, I found very little relevant in a Nabble search of Spring's developer and user archives. And I found nothing in the Spring documentation. Perhaps "Schema migration", "DB migration" are the wrong terms for Spring applications? I'm clearly not the only one facing issues of schema and data migration and evolution in Spring applications. Are there any best practices, support, existing tools, thoughts, etc.? For example, using Spring's Hibernate support, where/when should table creation be done? So far, I've found a few different solutions: -LiquiBase (I have not used it yet) -few different home-grown Spring framework plug-ins Any thoughts, corrections, re-directs, etc. are greatly appreciated. Hi,
recently I wanted to write a BeanDefinitionParser that creates child
beans. All the reasons to use AbstractSingleBeanDefinitionParser

class doesn't account for it.
I ended up writing my own AbstractBeanDefinitionParser subclass that
was a 1:1 copy of AbstractSingleBeanDefinitionParser with just a few
changes:
(1) I introduced a protected String getParentName(Element) method.
(2) parseInternal uses the above method if getBeanClass and
getBeanClassName both return null. It Invokes
BeanDefinitionBuilder.childBeanDefinition(parentName);
if getParentName wasn't null (and I certainly moved the Assert
statement so that now one of the three methods has to return
non-null).
(3) Changed
builder.setSingleton(parserContext.getContainingBeanDefinition().isSingleton());
to
builder.setScope(parserContext.getContainingBeanDefinition().getScope());
I'm not too sure about (3) but it seemed to be the right thing to do.
Of course I don't like repeating the code of parseInternal in my own
class. Is there a simpler way? Or alternatively could
AbstractSingleBeanDefinitionParser be opened up (my pretty simple
patch would be available if you think you want it).

I'm not sure what I might have changed, but I've also tried to change the
runtime for my project to my own JDK1.5 and WS6.1 JRE without success.
My project is firstly compiled into a JAR file, which is copied to the
WEB-INF/lib folder of my webapp, and then I generate a WAR file which I
manually update into the WS6.1 server (I've run into many problems with
automatic publishing with RAD7).
Any clues?
