[Springframework-developer] Contribute SQLJ support in Spring

Hi,

There have been a few requests for this earlier, both on the forums as well
as a JIRA ticket created too (URL's below), but no further progress on it.

I would like to contribute a SqljTemplate and its supporting classes to
Spring. This would enable customers who use SQLJ to be able to use Spring
and get all the Spring DAO benefits. The solution would apply for all SQLJ
vendors.

Hello,
  I want to use BCEL to intercept method invocations on a class (not an =
Interface like JDK proxies).  Basically I was hoping for basic =
AroundAdvice that I could apply to all method calls around this class.

  This seems like such a basic AOP usage that I should be able to supply =
the advice and a Class object and get back a Class or an instance with =
the advice installed.  I've been digging for 10-15 minutes and didn't =
find it right away and thought someone on this list could point me to a =
helper class that would let me do this.

I'm pleased to announce that Spring 2.1 M3 has been released!

This is the third milestone release in the Spring 2.1 series, introducing
autowiring for collections, the "bean(name)" pointcut element, various JDBC
enhancements, JRuby 1.0 support and many refinements all over the framework.

FYI, we have also released 2.0.7 snapshots, containing backported fixes from
2.1 M3. Please give a recent snapshot a try as a drop-in replacement for
2.0.5/2.0.6! The official 2.0.7 release is scheduled for August 15th.

May be you can try to write one by yourself. The mechanism is intelligible.
when the *FilterToBean *filter has been invoked, it just explicitly uses a
Spring method *getBean(targetClass)* to call the targetClass which is
defined in ApplicationContext(in acegi case, is the FilterChainProxy). And
in FilterChainProxy, there is a inner class to handle the filter loop.

Hi,
  I noticed that ACEGI has a filter chain proxy =
(http://www.acegisecurity.org/multiproject/acegi-security/apidocs/org/ace=
gisecurity/util/FilterToBeanProxy.html), that allows you configure your =
filters in Spring.  I was wondering if a similar class existed for =
Servlets?  I wanted to use the principals of Spring lightweight plugins =
(http://www.devx.com/Java/Article/31835) to add/remove servlets and =
think an approach for servlets similar to the filter chain proxy would =
allow this.

well, Based on my comprehension of Spring Bean initialization mechanism,
your patches are going to work.
All beans including these InitializingBeans or these custom beans which are
register in ApplicationContext XML files are identically initialized by
Beanfactory. It means constructors of beans can be defined *arbitrarily.*
And the difference between InitializingBeans and others is when BeanFactory
creating Beans, it test whether the bean is a instance of InitializingBean
or not to decide to invoke its *afterPropertiesSet()* method or not like
below.

Spring developers,

First off, thank you very much for a wonderful framework.

I am in the process of writing a short paper on the Spring Framework in
which I exclusively use Spring programmatically.  During this process, I've
found quite a few implementations of the InitializingBean interface that
have empty constructors, forcing me to call a few setter() methods, and
finally call an afterPropertiesSet() method to fully construct it.  (I do
understand that when using an XML-based application context, the Spring
container calls the setters and afterPropertiesSet() for you.  I want to use
Spring programmatically).


For example, in my Service Locator, I instantiate a LocalSessionFactoryBean
as follows:

    private void initializeSessionFactory() throws Exception {
        _localSessionFactoryBean = new LocalSessionFactoryBean();
        Properties hibernateProperties = new Properties();
        hibernateProperties.setProperty("hibernate.dialect","
org.hibernate.dialect.PostgreSQLDialect");
        _localSessionFactoryBean.setDataSource(_dataSource);
        _localSessionFactoryBean.setMappingResources(new
String[]{"com/billsix/examples/atm/DomainObjects.hbm.xml"});

_localSessionFactoryBean.setHibernateProperties(hibernateProperties);
        _localSessionFactoryBean.afterPropertiesSet();
    }


I prefer to create valid objects at construction time, so I would like the
following constructor.

     public LocalSessionFactoryBean(DataSource dataSource, Properties
hibernateProperties, String[] mappingResources)
     {
       setDataSource(dataSource);
       setHibernateProperties(hibernateProperties);
       setMappingResources(mappingResources);
        afterPropertiesSet();
     }


This would allow me to instantiate a LocalSessionFactoryBean as follows:

    private void initializeSessionFactory() throws Exception {
        Properties hibernateProperties = new Properties();
        hibernateProperties.setProperty("hibernate.dialect","
org.hibernate.dialect.PostgreSQLDialect ");
        _localSessionFactoryBean = new

String[]{"com/billsix/examples/atm/DomainObjects.hbm.xml"} );
    }



I have found that some Spring classes offer both empty constructors as well
as constructors in the style I described above, such as the hibernate3
HibernateTransactionManager and the TransactionInterceptor.  (Although,
TransactionInterceptor's constructors currently don't have calls
afterPropertiesSet() in the last line of each.)



If I create patches for InitializingBeans in which I'd like a constructor
with arguments, will they be accepted?  If not, why not?

I've never contributed to an open source project before - I assume all I
have to do is to create "improvement" issues in JIRA, submitting patches for
each InitializingBean.  Is that correct?

Jython if anyone is interested.

Jython 2.2rc2 was used for development and testing. The jython.jar file
needs to be added to the classpath of the project. Jython should either
be installed in a directory called "jython" under your home directory,
or alternatively the python.home property can be set to point to where
jython is installed for unit tests to succeeed.
