After complaining to SF about the lack of JDK's in their compile farm, I=20 found six of them. Unfortunately for me, I'd checked the only 4 machines=20 that *didn't* have one before writing to them. Me and my mouth. Anyway, I now intend to attempt scheduled builds on five of the six machine= s=20 (2 are identical in terms of OS and JDK) and of course run the test suite. = =20 Once I have this working well, I'll attempt to run the autobuilds apps on=20 each supported servlet container (again on all five machines). The=20 advantage of the compile farm is in the range of platforms available. I'd like to get each machine to send an email to the dev list, but only on = a=20 build failure unless anyone sees value in an additional five daily emails=20 showing successful builds. Another option to investigate is FTP'ing the=20 report summaries somewhere - like the project web server to which we could= =20 presumably link from springframework.org...? Note though, that the CVS access on the CF machines is via the anonymous=20 pserver which can be up to 5 hours behind the SSH servers that we commit=20 changes to. Here's some detail on the machines that I'll be running this on: machine JDK OS =2D--------------------------------------------------------------------- x86-solaris1 Sun 1.4.1_06 Solaris 9 amd64-linux1 Sun 1.3.1 SUSE 8 (linux 2.4)=20 ppc-osx1 Sun 1.3.1 Mac OSX 10.1 ppc-osx2 Sun 1.4.1_01 Mac OSX 10.2 sparc-solaris1 Sun 1.4.0_03 Solaris 9 I note that there are a couple of outstanding requests at SF to add a JDK=20 1.5 to one of the machines too, so when that becomes available I'll use it= =20 too. Hopefully this will give us some additional confidence in the build=20 process, test suite and JDK/container compatibility. Regards, =2D-=20 Darren Davison Public Key: #DD356B0D |

A user on the forum = (http://forum.springframework.org/viewtopic.php?t=3D2034&start=3D0&postda= ys=3D0&postorder=3Dasc&highlight=3D) noticed a backward compatibility = issue. I'm posting it here as well and have already replied on the = forum. It might be wise to include a known-poblems section on the website = somewhere. They are minor issues, but still I think it's good to let = people know if there is any issues. regards, Alef =20 =3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D=3D I had a txProxyTemplate bean defined in my applicationContext = configuration without the abstract=3D"true" attribute and things ran = fine with Spring 1.1.1. I'm getting a repeatable test failing on several different UNIX/Linux=20
machines despite an obvious attempt to make it work on such OS's..
[junit] FAILED
[junit] null
[junit] junit.framework.AssertionFailedError
[junit] at=20
org.springframework.beans.factory.config.PropertyResourceConfigurerTests.te=
stPropertyPlaceholderConfigurerWithSystemPropertiesInLocation(PropertyResou=
rceConfigurerTests.java:271)
[junit] at sun.reflect.NativeMethodAccessorImpl.invoke0(Native Method)
[junit] at=20
sun.reflect.NativeMethodAccessorImpl.invoke(NativeMethodAccessorImpl.java:3=
9)
[junit] at=20
sun.reflect.DelegatingMethodAccessorImpl.invoke(DelegatingMethodAccessorImp=
l.java:25)
the problem is in the following code;=20
try {
ac.refresh();
fail("Should have thrown BeanDefinitionStoreException");
}
catch (BeanInitializationException ex) {
// expected
assertTrue(ex.getCause() instanceof FileNotFoundException);
// slight hack for Linux/Unix systems
String userDir =3D System.getProperty("user.dir");
if (userDir.startsWith("/")) {
userDir =3D userDir.substring(1);
}
assertTrue(ex.getMessage().indexOf(userDir + "/test/" + userDir) !=3D -=
1);
}
}
in the last assertTrue statement, the exception message still contains a=20
userDir that has *not* been stripped of its leading / and so the test=20
fails. I'm unsure how this has ever worked on UNIX but clearly the change=
=20
was put in because it failed in the past *without* it.
Since I don't think the test is supposed to verify file system semantics,=20
I've changed the assert line to;
assertTrue(
ex.getMessage().indexOf(userDir + "/test/" + userDir) !=3D -1
||
ex.getMessage().indexOf(userDir + "/test//" + userDir) !=3D -1
);
which works on my installation - can someone verify this on Windows? If=20
it's ok, I'll commit it.
Cheers,

In terms of an exact format for the dirs underneath /src I've generally tried to standardize on the Maven recommended directory format, which is as good as any other, and makes it simpler for people to use Maven if they want to, i.e. /src/java /src/test /src/test-cactus /src/webapp etc... Rod,Juergen, if the source does come into the main module, how do you see it being compiled? As part of the main build, or as its own little mini project? Colin |

All, What are your thoughts on the best way to pass constructor args to the ProxyFactoryBean to allow for proxying of classes with no arg constructors? Currently I see two ways: 1. Add setConstructorArgs(Object[], Class[]) to ProxyFactoryBean 2. Attempt to locate the <constructor-arg> definitions of the target bean, although I think this involves iterating over the bean definitions attempting to match to the target. Also when using anything but a SingletonTargetSource the match might not succeed. Rob |

I think this is a good idea - I will be adding JSR-175 support for Spring JMX to complement the current Commons Attributes support. Juergen and I have discussed having a new "tiger" tree parallel to "src" and "test". tiger would have its own src and test trees. The first major feature in there will be transaction mgt via Tiger annotations, which Colin has already completed and I'm now polishing. I'm also looking at adding support for hot swap and pooling attributes. The contents of this tree will be included in spring.jar, although everything in the main src tree would still compile on 1.3 and 1.4. Thoughts? For now, JIRA would be best for your contribution, as Colin says, as I only have time right now to focus on annotations. All, I am considering removing the notion of the MBeanInvoker from Spring JMX along with the Spring implementation of ModelMBean. There are two reasons for this: 1. I am not sure of the value offered by this approach given that the performance difference between the JDK invoker and the CGLIB invoker is hardly noticeable as shown by the tests in the sandbox. 2. All JMX implementations come with RequiredModelMBean which is already supported by Spring JMX - we don't really need another implementation if there is no benefit and I would prefer not to have keep modifying the ModelMBeanImpl class to keep up with the JMX spec. Originally, I had thought that having our own ModelMBean would enable us to improve performance but that turns out not to be true, instead we just have a model that is more complicated. I propose to remove the MBeanInvoker concept altogether and use the RequiredModelMBean class as the standard but provide the ability for other implementations to be plugged in a later date should the need arise in the future. What are your thoughts? Rob P.S. - Keith - I know you said this from the beginning and you were right. Don't say I told you so :) |

If everyone is in agreement I would like to move the JasperReports stuff into the main branch ready for 1.1.3. I spent some time yesterday polishing the JavaDocs for this module which I plan to finish off over the next few days, plus I'll add a couple of pages of documentation for this as well. Rob |

Actually this may be fixed some time soon, I just uploaded a patch to Jira which allows for wildcard matching regardless of whether the files are in a jar or on the file system. I've not tested it with jars inside jars (WARs, EARs etc..) so that could be a problem, but, as long as a JarURLConnection handler that supports nested jars is installed, I can't see why my patch would not work. So hopefully soon you'll be able to have: <property name=3D"mappingDirectoryLocations"> <value>classpath:/hibernate/*.hbm.xml</value> </property> or <property name=3D"mappingDirectoryLocations"> <value>classpath*:/hibernate/*.hbm.xml</value> </property> Ollie > -----Original Message----- > From: spr...@li...=20 > [mailto:spr...@li...] > On Behalf Of Colin Sampaleanu > Sent: Wednesday, 17 November 2004 3:22 AM > To: spr...@li... > Subject: Re: [Springframework-developer] using *.xml for=20 > Hibernate mapping files in the spring.xml >=20 >=20 > Just keep in mind that pointint to a classpath location, with any=20 > wildcarding, will break when the app is deployed such that=20 > the files are=20 > actually not on the physical filesystem. I noticed that the snapshots get overwritten each night. People who are running JDK 1.3 might want to get their hands on the last set of snapshots, as they do not have a problem running on JDK 1.3 like 1.1.2 do, but should be almost identical otherwise. I have therefore saved them as: http://www.springframework.org/downloads/snapshots/spring-framework-1.1.3-dev-20041116.zip http://www.springframework.org/downloads/snapshots/spring-framework-1.1.3-dev-with-dependencies-20041116.zip We might want to actually keep around the nightly snapshots for an entire release cycle, in case they are broken on a particular day, so that people can go back a day or two...
